1 F or you yourselves know, brethren, that our coming to you was not in vain.

أيُّها الإخوَةُ، أنتُمْ تَعلَمُونَ أنَّ زِيارَتَنا لَكُمْ لَمْ تَكُنْ عَبَثاً.

2 B ut even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict.

لَكِنَّنا، كَما تَعلَمُونَ، سَبَقَ أنْ عانَينا وَأُسِيئَتْ مُعامَلَتُنا فِي فِيلِبِّي. غَيرَ أنَّ اللهَ بَعدَ ذَلِكَ أمَدَّنا بِشَجاعَةٍ لِنُكَلِّمَكُمْ بِبِشارَةِ اللهِ، رُغمَ المُقاوَمَةِ الشَّدِيدَةِ.

3 F or our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.

فَتَبشِيرُنا إيّاكُمْ لا يَصدُرُ عَنْ خَلَلٍ فِينا، أوْ عَنْ دَوافِعَ غَيْرِ نَقِيَّةٍ، أوْ عَنْ رَغبَةٍ فِي خِداعِ أحَدٍ.

4 B ut as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

لَكِنَّنا نَتَكَلَّمُ بِثِقَةٍ لِأنَّ اللهَ اختَبَرَنا وَأئْتَمَنَنا عَلَى البِشارَةِ. فَنَحنُ لا نُحاوِلُ أنْ نُرضِيَ أحَداً مِنَ النّاسِ، بَلْ نُرِيدُ أنْ نُرضِيَ اللهَ الَّذِي يَختَبِرُ قُلُوبَنا.

5 F or neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness—God is witness.

نَحنُ لَمْ نَأتِ إلَيكُمْ بِكَلامٍ مَعسُولٍ كَما تَعلَمُونَ، وَلا كُنّا نُخفِي طَمَعاً فِي داخِلِنا، وَاللهُ هُوَ شاهِدُنا عَلَى ذَلِكَ!

6 N or did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

وَلا كُنّا نَسعَى إلَى مَديحٍ مِنْ أحَدٍ، لا مِنكُمْ وَلا مِنْ غَيرِكُمْ.

7 B ut we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

مَعَ العِلمِ أنَّهُ كانَ بِإمكانِنا، لَو أرَدْنا، أنْ نَستَخدِمَ سُلْطانَنا عَلَيكُمْ كَرُسُلٍ لِلمَسِيحِ. لَكِنَّنا كُنّا لُطَفاءَ بَينَكُمْ، كَأُمٍّ تَحنُو عَلَى أطفالِها وَتُرضِعُهُمْ.

8 S o, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

وَلِأنَّنا أحبَبناكُمْ كُلَّ هَذِهِ المَحَبَّةِ، كُنّا راضِيْنَ أنْ نُقَدِّمَ لَكُمْ، لا البِشارَةَ فَقَطْ، بَلْ أنفُسَنا أيضاً، لِأنَّنا نُحِبُّكُمْ جِدّاً.

9 F or you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

أيُّها الإخوَةُ، أنتُمْ تَذكُرُونَ تَعَبَنا وَجَهدَنا، إذْ كُنّا نَعمَلُ لَيلَ نَهارٍ، حَتَّى لا نَكُونَ عِبئاً عَلَى أحَدٍ مِنكُمْ وَنَحنُ نُعلِنُ لَكُمُ البِشارَةَ.

10 Y ou are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe;

أنتُمْ تَشهَدُونَ، وَاللهُ يَشهَدُ، كَيفَ أنَّنا سَلَكنا بَينَكُمْ أنتُمُ المُؤمِنِينَ بِكُلِّ طَهارَةٍ وَبِرٍّ وَدُونَ مَلامَةٍ.

11 a s you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children,

وَأنتُمْ تَعرِفُونَ تَماماً كَيفَ أنَّنا عامَلْنا كُلَّ واحِدٍ مِنكُمْ كَما يُعامِلُ الأبُ ابنَهُ.

12 t hat you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. Their Conversion

وَهَكَذا شَجَّعناكُمْ، وَأعدَدْناكُمْ لِمُواجَهَةِ الصِّعابِ. وَنَحُثُّكُمْ عَلَى أنْ تَسلُكُوا كَما يَلِيقُ بِاللهِ الَّذِي يَدعُوكُمْ إلَى مُلكِهِ المَجِيدِ.

13 F or this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

وَنَحنُ نَشكُرُ اللهَ دائِماً، لِأنَّكُمْ مُنذُ أنْ تَسَلَّمْتُمْ مِنّا رِسالَةَ اللهِ، قَبِلتُمُوها لا كَرِسالَةٍ مِنْ بَشَرٍ، بَلْ كَما هِيَ بِالفِعلِ: كَرِسالَةِ اللهِ الَّتِي مازالَتْ تَعمَلُ فِيكُمْ أنتُمُ المُؤمِنِينَ.

14 F or you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans,

فَقَدْ صِرتُمْ أيُّها الإخوَةُ، مِثلَ كَنائِسِ اللهِ فِي المَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ فِي إقلِيمِ اليَهُودِيَّةِ. فَقَدِ اضطَهَدَكُمْ أبناءُ أُمَّتِكُمْ كَما اضطَهَدَهُمْ أبناءُ أُمَّتِهِمْ مِنَ اليَهُودِ.

15 w ho killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are contrary to all men,

وَهُمُ اليَهُودُ أنفُسُهُمُ الَّذِينَ قَتَلُوا الرَّبَّ يَسُوعَ وَالأنبِياءَ، وَاضطَهَدُونا. فَهُمْ لا يُرضُونَ اللهَ، وَيُعادُونَ كُلَّ النّاسِ.

16 f orbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost. Longing to See Them

يُحاوِلُونَ مَنعَنا مِنَ التَّكَلُّمِ مَعَ غَيرِ اليَهُودِ، لِئَلّا يَخلُصُوا. وَبِسَبَبِ هَذِهِ الخَطايا الَّتِي يُداوِمُونَ عَلَيها، فَإنَّ مِكيالَ خَطاياهُمْ يَفِيضُ! وَالآنَ، جاءَ عَلَيهِمْ أخِيراً غَضَبُ اللهِ. رَغبَةُ بُولُسَ فِي زِيارَتِهِمْ ثانِيَة

17 B ut we, brethren, having been taken away from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavored more eagerly to see your face with great desire.

أمّا نَحنُ أيُّها الإخوَةُ، فَقَدِ انفَصَلْنا عَنكُمْ زَماناً قَلِيلاً بِالجِسمِ لا بِالفِكرِ. وَسَرعانَ ما ازدادَتْ لَهفَتُنا، وَتَعاظَمَ شَوقُنا إلَى رُؤيَتِكُمْ.

18 T herefore we wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us.

فَأرَدْنا أنْ نَأتِيَ لِزِيارَتِكُمْ. حاوَلْتُ، أنا بُولُسَ، مَرَّةً تِلوَ الأُخرَى أنْ آتِيَ إلَيكُمْ، لَكِنَّ الشَّيطانَ أعاقَنِي فِي كُلِّ مَرَّةٍ.

19 F or what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?

فَمَنْ هُوَ رَجاؤُنا وَفَرَحُنا وَتاجُ فَخرِنا عِندَما نَقِفُ أمامَ رَبِّنا يَسُوعَ عِندَ مَجِيئِهِ، إنْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا أنتُمْ؟

20 F or you are our glory and joy.

نَعَمْ، أنتُمْ مَجْدُنا وَفَرَحُنا!
