1 T he Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth:

مِنَ الشَّيخِ، إلَى الصَّدِيقِ العَزِيزِ غايُوسَ الَّذِي أُحِبُّهُ فِي الحَقِّ.

2 B eloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

أيُّها الحَبيبُ، أُصَلِّي أنْ تَكُونَ بِخَيرٍ وَبِصِحَّةٍ جَيِّدَةٍ، تَماماً كَما أنَّ نَفسَكَ بِخَيرٍ.

3 F or I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.

كَمْ سَعِدتُ حِيْنَ أتانِي بَعضُ الإخوَةِ وَشَهِدُوا لإخلاصِكَ لِلحَقِّ وَثَباتِكَ فِي السُّلُوكِ فِيهِ.

4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. Gaius Commended for Generosity

لا شَيءَ يُسعِدُنِي أكثَرَ مِنْ أنْ أسمَعَ أنَّ أبنائِي يَسلُكُونَ فِي طَرِيقِ الحَقِّ.

5 B eloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren and for strangers,

أيُّها الحَبيبُ، أنتَ تَعمَلُ بِإخلاصٍ عَلَى مُساعَدَةِ إخْوَتِنا، مَعَ أنَّكَ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَعْرِفُهُمْ مِنْ قَبلُ.

6 w ho have borne witness of your love before the church. If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well,

لَقَدْ شَهَدَ هَؤُلاءِ أمامَ الكَنِيسَةِ عَنِ المَحَبَّةِ الَّتِي أظهَرْتَها لَهُمْ. وَأنتَ تَفعَلُ حَسَناً إنْ ساعَدتَهُمْ بِما يُرضي اللهَ عَلَى مُواصَلَةِ رِحلَتِهِمْ،

7 b ecause they went forth for His name’s sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles.

لِأنَّهُمُ انْطَلَقوا مِنْ أجلِ اسْمِ يَسُوعَ. وَهُمْ لا يَقبَلُونَ شَيئاً مِنْ غَيرِ المُؤمِنِينَ.

8 W e therefore ought to receive such, that we may become fellow workers for the truth. Diotrephes and Demetrius

لِذَلِكَ يَنبَغي عَلَينا أنْ نُساعِدَ مِثلَ هَؤُلاءِ، فَنَكُونَ شُرَكاءَ لَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ الحَقِّ.

9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us.

لَقَدْ وَجَّهتُ رِسالَةً إلَى الكَنِيسَةِ، لَكِنَّ دِيُوتْرِيفُسَ الَّذِي يُرِيدُ أنْ يَكُونَ قائِداً لِلْكَنيسَةِ، لَمْ يَتَقَبَّلْ ما قُلْناهُ.

10 T herefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.

لِذا إنْ أتَيتُ أنا، سَأعمَلُ عَلَى كَشفِ أفعالِهِ. إنَّهُ يَتَّهِمُنا بِكَلِماتٍ خَبيثَةٍ. وَلا يَكتَفِي بِهَذا، بَلْ إنَّهُ لا يُرَحِّبُ بإخوَتِنا، وَيَمنَعُ مَنْ يَرغَبُ بِذَلِكَ، وَيَطرُدُهُ خارِجَ الكَنِيسَةِ.

11 B eloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.

أيُّها الحَبيبُ، لا تَقْتَدِ بِالشَّرِّ بَلْ بِالخَيْرِ. فَمَنْ يَفعَلُ الخَيرَ تابِعٌ للهِ، وَمَنْ يَفعَلُ الشَّرَّ لَمْ يَعرِفِ اللهَ.

12 D emetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true. Farewell Greeting

لَقَدْ شَهِدَ الجَمِيعُ لِدِيْمِترِيُوسَ. شَهِدَ لَهُ الحَقُّ نَفسُهُ، وَكَذَلِكَ نَحنُ نَشهَدُ، وَأنتَ تَعلَمُ أنَّ شَهادَتَنا صادِقَةٌ.

13 I had many things to write, but I do not wish to write to you with pen and ink;

لَدَيَّ الكَثِيرُ لِأكتُبَهُ لَكَ، لَكِنِّي لا أوَدُّ أنْ أكتُبَ بِقَلَمٍ وَحِبرٍ،

14 b ut I hope to see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face. Peace to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.

بَلْ أرجُو أنْ أراكَ قَرِيباً كَيْ نَتَكَلَّمَ وَجهاً لِوَجهٍ. السَّلامُ مَعكَ، يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيكَ الأحِبّاءُ. سَلِّمْ عَلَى الأحِبّاءِ، كُلِّ واحِدٍ بِاسْمِهِ.
