1 T hen it was, when the wall was built and I had hung the doors, when the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed,

وَبَعْدَ أنْ أُعِيدَ بِناءُ السُّورِ، وَثُبِّتَتِ الأبْوابُ فِي مَكانِها، تَمَّ تَعيِينُ حُرّاسٍ لِلأبوابِ، وَمُرَنِّمِينَ وَلاوِيِّينَ لِلقِيامِ بِمَهَمّاتِهِمْ.

2 t hat I gave the charge of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the leader of the citadel, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.

ثُمَّ جَعَلْتُ أخِي حَنانِيَ مَسؤُولاً عَنْ مَدِينَةِ القُدسِ، لِأنَّ حَنانِيَ كانَ أمِيناً وَيَخافُ اللهَ أكثَرَ مِنْ مُعْظَمِ النّاسِ. وَعَيَّنْتُ حَنَنْيا رَئِيساً لِلحِصْنِ.

3 A nd I said to them, “Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they stand guard, let them shut and bar the doors; and appoint guards from among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, one at his watch station and another in front of his own house.” The Captives Who Returned to Jerusalem

وَقُلْتُ لَهُما: «يَنْبَغِي أنْ تُفْتَحَ أبْوابُ القُدسِ بَعْدَ ساعاتٍ مِنْ شُرُوقِ الشَّمْسِ، وَيَنْبَغِي أنْ تُغلَقَ قَبلَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ. ضَعا حُرّاساً مِنْ سُكّانِ القُدْسِ، ضَعا بَعْضاً عِندَ نِقاطِ الحِراسَةِ، وَبَعْضاً أمامَ بُيُوتِهِمْ.»

4 N ow the city was large and spacious, but the people in it were few, and the houses were not rebuilt.

كانَتِ المَدِينَةُ مُمتَدَّةً وَكَبِيرَةً، لَكِنَّ النّاسَ الَّذِينَ يَسكُنُونَها قَلِيلُونَ، لِأنَّهُ لَمْ يَتِمَّ بِناءُ عَدَدٍ كافٍ مِنَ البُيُوتِ ثانِيَةً. قائِمَةُ العَأئِدِين

5 T hen my God put it into my heart to gather the nobles, the rulers, and the people, that they might be registered by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of those who had come up in the first return, and found written in it:

وَدَفَعَنِي إلَهِي إلَى جَمْعِ الأشْرافِ وَالمَسؤُولِينَ وَعامَّةِ النّاسِ مِنْ أجلِ تَسجِيلِهِمْ حَسَبَ عائِلاتِهِمْ. فَوَجَدْتُ سِجِلّاتٍ لِلعائِلاتِ الَّتِي عادَتْ مِنَ السَّبْيِ أوَّلاً. وَوَجَدْتُ مَكتُوباً فِيها:

6 T hese are the people of the province who came back from the captivity, of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his city.

هَذِهِ هِيَ أسماءُ سُكّانِ المِنطَقَةِ الَّذِينَ عادُوا مِنَ السَّبْيِ، الَّذِينَ كانَ نَبُوخَذْناصَّرُ مَلِكُ بابِلَ قَدْ سَباهُمْ، فَعادُوا إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ وَيَهُوذا، كُلُّ واحِدٍ إلَى مَدِينَتِهِ.

7 T hose who came with Zerubbabel were Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

جاءُوا مَعَ زَرُبّابِلَ وَيَشُوعَ وَنَحَمْيا وَعَزَرْيا وَرَعَمْيا وَنَحَمانِيَ وَمُردَخايَ وَبَلْشانَ وَمِسْفارَثَ وَبِغْوايَ وَناحُومَ وَبَعْنَةَ. هَذِهِ قائِمَةٌ بِأسماءِ مُجمَلِ رِجالِ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ الَّذِينَ عادُوا وَأعْدادِهِمْ:

8 t he sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two;

بَنُو فَرْعُوشَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَمِئَةٌ وَاثْنانِ وَسَبْعُونَ.

9 t he sons of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two;

بَنُو شَفَطْيا وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَسَبْعُونَ.

10 t he sons of Arah, six hundred and fifty-two;

بَنُو آرَحَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

11 t he sons of Pahath-Moab, of the sons of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and eighteen;

بَنُو فَحَثَ مُوآبَ مِنْ عائِلَةِ يَشُوعَ وَيُوآبَ، وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَثَمانُ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةَ عَشَرَ.

12 t he sons of Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four;

بَنُو عِيلامَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَمِئَتانِ وَأرْبَعَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

13 t he sons of Zattu, eight hundred and forty-five;

بَنُو زَتُّو وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَمانُ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

14 t he sons of Zaccai, seven hundred and sixty;

بَنُو زَكّايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَسِتُّونَ.

15 t he sons of Binnui, six hundred and forty-eight;

بَنُو بِنُّويَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

16 t he sons of Bebai, six hundred and twenty-eight;

بَنُو بابايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

17 t he sons of Azgad, two thousand three hundred and twenty-two;

بَنُو عَزْجَدَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَعِشْرُونَ.

18 t he sons of Adonikam, six hundred and sixty-seven;

بَنُو أدُونِيقامَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ.

19 t he sons of Bigvai, two thousand and sixty-seven;

بَنُو بِغْوايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفانِ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ.

20 t he sons of Adin, six hundred and fifty-five;

بَنُو عادِينَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

21 t he sons of Ater of Hezekiah, ninety-eight;

بَنُو أطِّيرَ، مِنْ عائِلَةِ حَزَقِيّا، وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَمانِيَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ.

22 t he sons of Hashum, three hundred and twenty-eight;

بَنُو حَشُومَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

23 t he sons of Bezai, three hundred and twenty-four;

بَنُو بِيصايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَأرْبَعَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

24 t he sons of Hariph, one hundred and twelve;

بَنُو حارِيفَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَاثْنا عَشَرَ.

25 t he sons of Gibeon, ninety-five;

بَنُو جِبْعُونَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ خَمْسَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ.

26 t he men of Bethlehem and Netophah, one hundred and eighty-eight;

الرِجالُ مِنْ بَلدَتِي بَيْتَ لَحْمَ وَنَطُوفَةَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَمانيَةٌ وَثَمانُونَ.

27 t he men of Anathoth, one hundred and twenty-eight;

الرِجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ عَناثُوثَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

28 t he men of Beth Azmaveth, forty-two;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلْدَةِ بَيْتِ عَزْمُوتَ وَعَدَدُهُمُ اثْنانِ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

29 t he men of Kirjath Jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred and forty-three;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ قَرْيَةِ يَعارِيمَ وكَفِيرَةَ وَبَئِيرُوتَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

30 t he men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred and twenty-one;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَتِي الرّامَةِ وَجَبَعَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَواحِدٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

31 t he men of Michmas, one hundred and twenty-two;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ مِخْماسَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَاثْنانِ وَعِشْرُونَ.

32 t he men of Bethel and Ai, one hundred and twenty-three;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَتِي بَيْتِ إيلَ وعايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَلاثةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

33 t he men of the other Nebo, fifty-two;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ نَبُو الأُخْرَى وَعَدَدُهُمُ اثْنانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

34 t he sons of the other Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ عِيلامَ الأُخْرَى وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَمِئَتانِ وَأرْبَعَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ.

35 t he sons of Harim, three hundred and twenty;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ حارِيمَ وَعدَدُهم ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَعِشْرُونَ.

36 t he sons of Jericho, three hundred and forty-five;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ أرِيحا وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

37 t he sons of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-one;

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلداتِ لُودَ وَحادِيدَ وَأُونُو وَعَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَواحِدٌ وَعِشْرُونَ.

38 t he sons of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty.

الرِّجالُ مِنْ بَلدَةِ سَناءَةَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ثَلاثَةُ آلافٍ وَتِسْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثُونَ.

39 T he priests: the sons of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred and seventy-three;

أمّا الكَهَنَةُ فَهُمْ: بَنُو يَدْعِيا، مِنْ عائِلَةِ يَشُوعَ، وَعَدَدُهُمْ تِسْعُ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ.

40 t he sons of Immer, one thousand and fifty-two;

بَنُو إمِّيرَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَاثْنانِ وَخَمْسُونَ.

41 t he sons of Pashhur, one thousand two hundred and forty-seven;

بَنُو فَشْحُورَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَمِئَتانِ وَسَبْعَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

42 t he sons of Harim, one thousand and seventeen.

بَنُو حارِيمَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ ألْفٌ وَسَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ.

43 T he Levites: the sons of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, and of the sons of Hodevah, seventy-four.

أمّا اللّاوِيُّونَ فَهُمْ: بَنُو يَشُوعَ مِنْ طَرَفِ قَدْمِيئِيلَ، مِنْ عائِلَةِ هُودُويا، وَعَدَدُهُمْ أرْبَعَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ.

44 T he singers: the sons of Asaph, one hundred and forty-eight.

وَالمُرَنِّمونَ هُمْ: بَنُو آسافَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ مِئَةٌ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

45 T he gatekeepers: the sons of Shallum, the sons of Ater, the sons of Talmon, the sons of Akkub, the sons of Hatita, the sons of Shobai, one hundred and thirty-eight.

أمّا حُرّاسُ بوّاباتِ الهَيْكَلِ فَهُمْ: بَنُو شَلُّومَ وَبَنُو أطِيرَ وَبَنُو طَلْمُونَ وَبَنُو عَقُّوبَ وَبَنُو حَطِيطا وَبَنُو شُوبايَ وَعَدَدُهُمْ جَمِيعاً مِئَةٌ وَثَمانِيَةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ.

46 T he Nethinim: the sons of Ziha, the sons of Hasupha, the sons of Tabbaoth,

وَهَذِهِ أسْماءُ خُدّامِ الهَيكَلِ: بَنُو صِيحا وَبَنُو حَسُوفا وَبَنُو طَباعُوتَ.

47 t he sons of Keros, the sons of Sia, the sons of Padon,

وَبَنُو قِيرُوسَ وَبَنُو سِيعا وَبَنُو فادُونَ.

48 t he sons of Lebana, the sons of Hagaba, the sons of Salmai,

وَبَنُو لَبانَةَ وَبَنُو حَجابا وَبَنُو سَلْمايَ.

49 t he sons of Hanan, the sons of Giddel, the sons of Gahar,

وَبَنُو حانانَ وَبَنُو جَدِيلَ وَبَنُو جاحَرَ.

50 t he sons of Reaiah, the sons of Rezin, the sons of Nekoda,

وَبَنُو رَآيا وَبَنُو رَصِينَ وَبَنُو نَقُودا.

51 t he sons of Gazzam, the sons of Uzza, the sons of Paseah,

وَبَنُو جَزامَ وَبَنُو عَزا وَبَنُو فاسِيحَ.

52 t he sons of Besai, the sons of Meunim, the sons of Nephishesim,

وَبَنُو بِيسايَ وَبَنُو مَعُونِيمَ وَبَنُو نَفِيشَسِيمَ.

53 t he sons of Bakbuk, the sons of Hakupha, the sons of Harhur,

وَبَنُو بَقْبُوقَ وَبَنُو حَقُوفا وَبَنُو حَرْحُورَ.

54 t he sons of Bazlith, the sons of Mehida, the sons of Harsha,

وَبَنُو بَصلِيتَ وَبَنُو مَحِيدا وَبَنُو حَرْشا.

55 t he sons of Barkos, the sons of Sisera, the sons of Tamah,

وَبَنُو بَرْقُوسَ وَبَنُو سِيسَرا وَبَنُو تامَحَ.

56 t he sons of Neziah, and the sons of Hatipha.

وَبَنُو نَصِيحَ وَبَنُو حَطِيفا.

57 T he sons of Solomon’s servants: the sons of Sotai, the sons of Sophereth, the sons of Perida,

وَهَذِهِ أسماءُ نَسلِ خُدّامِ سُلَيْمانَ: بَنُو سُوطايَ وَبَنُو سُوفَرَثَ وَبَنُو فَرِيدا.

58 t he sons of Jaala, the sons of Darkon, the sons of Giddel,

وَبَنُو يَعلا وَبَنُو دَرْقُونَ وَبَنُو جَدِّيلَ.

59 t he sons of Shephatiah, the sons of Hattil, the sons of Pochereth of Zebaim, and the sons of Amon.

وَبَنُو شَفَطْيا وَبَنُو حَطِّيلَ وَبَنُو فُوخَرَةَ الظِّباءَ وَبَنُو آمُونَ.

60 A ll the Nethinim, and the sons of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred and ninety-two.

وَعَدَدُ خُدّامِ الهَيكَلِ وَأبناءِ خُدّامِ سُلَيْمانَ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَتِسْعُونَ.

61 A nd these were the ones who came up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer, but they could not identify their father’s house nor their lineage, whether they were of Israel:

وَجاءَتِ الجَماعاتُ التّالِيةُ إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ مِنْ تَلِّ مِلْحٍ وَتَلِّ حَرْشا وَكَرُوبَ وَأدُونَ وَإمِّيرَ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَتَمَكَّنُوا مِنْ إثباتِ نَسَبِهِمْ إلَى بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ:

62 t he sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred and forty-two;

بَنُو دَلايا وَبَنُو طُوبِيّا وَبَنُو نَقُودا، وَعَدَدُهُمْ سِتُّ مِئَةٍ وَاثْنانِ وَأرْبَعُونَ.

63 a nd of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Koz, the sons of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called by their name.

وَمِنَ عائِلَةِ الكَهَنَةِ: بَنُو حَبابا وَبَنُو هَقُّوسَ وَبَنُو بَرْزِلّايَ الَّذِي تَزَوَّجَ مِنْ إحدَى بَناتِ بَرْزِلّايَ الجِلْعادِيِّ، وَتَسَمَّى بِاسْمِهِمْ.

64 T hese sought their listing among those who were registered by genealogy, but it was not found; therefore they were excluded from the priesthood as defiled.

بَحَثَ هَؤُلاءِ فِي السِّجِلّاتِ الرَّسْمِيَّةِ عَنْ أصلِهِمْ وَنَسَبِهِمْ، فَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ ذِكْرٌ فِيها، فَتَمَّ اسْتِثْناؤُهُمْ مِنْ خِدْمَةِ الكَهَنَةِ.

65 A nd the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things till a priest could consult with the Urim and Thummim.

وَأمَرَهُمِ الوالِي بِأنْ لا يَأكُلُوا مِنْ أطعِمَةِ قُدْسِ الأقدْاسِ إلَى أن يَظهَرَ كاهِنٌ يَستَطِيعُ أن يَسألَ اللهَ بِواسِطَةِ الأُورِيمِ وَالتُّمِّيمِ فِي أمْرِهِمْ.

66 A ltogether the whole assembly was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,

وَقَد بَلَغَ مَجمُوعُ الجَماعَةِ اثْنَينِ وَأربَعينَ ألفاً وَثَلاثَ مِئِةٍ وَسِتِّينَ.

67 b esides their male and female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred and forty-five men and women singers.

عَدا خُدّامِهِمْ وَخادِماتِهِمِ الَّذِينَ بَلَغَ عَدَدُهُمْ سَبْعَةَ آلافٍ وَثَلاثَ مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعَةً وَثَلاثِينَ. كَما كانَ مَعَهُمْ مِئَتا مُرَنِّمٍ وَمُرَنَّمَةٍ.

68 T heir horses were seven hundred and thirty-six, their mules two hundred and forty-five,

وَكانَ لَدَيْهِمْ سَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَسِتَّةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ حِصانا، وَمِئَتانِ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَأرْبَعُونَ بَغلاً،

69 t heir camels four hundred and thirty-five, and donkeys six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

وَأرْبَعُمِئَةٍ وَخَمْسَةٌ وَثَلاثُونَ جَمَلاً، وَسِتَّةُ آلافٍ وَسَبْعُ مِئَةٍ وَعِشْرُونَ حِماراً.

70 A nd some of the heads of the fathers’ houses gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury one thousand gold drachmas, fifty basins, and five hundred and thirty priestly garments.

وَقَدْ قَدَّمَ بَعْضُ رُؤَساءِ العائِلاتِ مِنْ مالِهِمْ لِلإنفاقِ عَلَى إعادَةِ بِناءِ الهَيْكَلِ. فَقَدْ قَدَّمَ الوالِي لِلخَزْنَةِ ألْفَ دِرْهَمٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَخَمْسِينَ طاساً لِلاغْتِسالِ، وَخَمْسَ مِئَةٍ وَثَلاثِينَ ثُوباً للْكَهَنَةِ.

71 S ome of the heads of the fathers’ houses gave to the treasury of the work twenty thousand gold drachmas, and two thousand two hundred silver minas.

وَقَدَّمَ رُؤَساءُ العائِلاتِ عِشرِينَ ألفَ دِرْهَمٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَألفينِ وِمِئتَي رَطلٍ مِنَ الفِضَّةِ.

72 A nd that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand gold drachmas, two thousand silver minas, and sixty-seven priestly garments.

وَقَدَّمَ بَقِيَّةُ الشَّعبِ عِشرِينَ ألفَ دِرْهَمٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ، وَألفي رَطلٍ مِنَ الفِضَّةِ، وَسَبعَةً وَسِتِّينَ ثَوْباً لِلكَهَنَةِ.

73 S o the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the Nethinim, and all Israel dwelt in their cities. Ezra Reads the Law When the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.

وَأقامَ الكَهَنَةُ وَاللّاوِيُّونَ وَبَعضُ الشَّعبِ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ مَعَ المُغَنِّينَ وَحُرّاسِ الأبْوابِ وَخُدّامِ الهَيْكَلِ. وَسَكَنَ جَمِيعُ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ. فَفِي الشَهْرِ السَّابِعِ مِنَ السَّنَةِ، كانَ قَدِ اسْتَقَرَّ جَمِيعُ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ فِي مُدُنِهِمْ.
