1 T his is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.

هَذا قَولٌ جَدِيرٌ بِالثِّقَةِ: إنْ كانَ أحَدٌ يَرغَبُ بِأنْ يَكُونَ مُشرِفاً، فَإنَّ رَغبَتَهُ هَذِهِ نَبِيلَةٌ.

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

لَكِنْ يَنبَغي أنْ يَحيا الشَّيخُ حَياةً لا تُعطِي مَجالاً لِلِانتِقادِ، وَأنْ لا يَكونَ مُتَزَوِّجاً مِنْ أكْثَرِ مِنِ امْرأةٍ واحِدَةٍ، مُعتَدِلاً مُتَعَقِّلاً وَقُوراً وَمِضيافاً. وَلا بُدَّ أنْ يَكُونَ مُعَلِّماً قَدِيراً.

3 n ot given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

وَلا يَنبَغي أنْ يَكُونَ مُولَعاً بِالخَمرِ أوْ مَيّالاً إلَى العُنفِ، بَلْ لَطِيفاً وَمُسالِماً وَغَيرَ مُحِبٍّ لِلمالِ.

4 o ne who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence

وَيَنبَغي أنْ يُدِيرَ شُؤونَ بَيتِهِ حَسَناً، وَأنْ يَكُونَ أبناؤُهُ خاضِعِينَ لَهُ فِي احتِرامٍ كامِلٍ.

5 ( for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?);

فَإنْ كانَ أحَدٌ يَجهَلُ كَيفَ يُدِيرُ بَيتَهُ، كَيفَ نَتَوَقَّعُ مِنهُ أنْ يَرعَى كَنِيسَةَ اللهِ؟

6 n ot a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

كَذَلِكَ لا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يَكُونَ حَدِيثاً فِي الإيمانِ، لِئَلّا يَنتَفِخَ بِالكِبرِياءِ فَيَقَعُ عَليهِ الحُكمُ الَّذِي وَقَعَ عَلَى إبلِيسَ.

7 M oreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Qualifications of Deacons

كَما يَنبَغي أنْ يَتَمَتَّعَ بِسُمعَةٍ حَسَنَةٍ عِندَ غَيرِ المُؤمِنِينَ، لِئَلّا يَجلِبَ الِانتِقادَ عَلَى نَفسِهِ وَيَقَعَ فِي فَخِّ إبلِيسَ. الخُدّامُ فِي الكَنِيسَة

8 L ikewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money,

كَذَلِكَ يَنبَغي أنْ يَكُونَ الخُدّامُ المُعَيَّنُونَ فِي خِدْماتٍ خاصَّةٍ جَدِيرِيْنَ بِالِاحتِرامِ، وَكَلِمَتُهُمْ جَدِيرَةً بِالثِّقَةِ، غَيرَ مَيّالِينَ إلَى الإفراطِ فِي الشُّربِ، أوْ مُولَعِينَ بِالمَكاسِبِ غَيرِ الشَّرِيفَةِ،

9 h olding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.

مُتَمَسِّكِينَ بِحَقائِقِ إيمانِنا العَمِيقَةِ بِضَمِيرٍ نَقِيٍّ.

10 B ut let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless.

كَما يَنبَغي أنْ يَتِمَّ اختِبارُ هَؤُلاءِ أوَّلاً، كَما هُوَ الحالُ مَعَ المُشرِفِينَ. فَإذا لَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ مَأخَذٌ عَلَيهِمْ، فَلْيَخدِمُوا فِي خِدْماتِهِمُ الخاصَّةِ.

11 L ikewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

كَذَلِكَ يَنبَغي أنْ تَكُونَ النِّساءُ جَدِيراتٍ بِالِاحتِرامِ. فَلا يَنبَغِي أنْ يَكُنَّ نَمّاماتٍ وَمُفتَرِياتٍ، بَلْ مُعتَدِلاتٍ وَجَدِيراتٍ بِالثِّقَةِ فِي كُلِّ شَيءٍ.

12 L et deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

أمّا أُولَئِكَ الخُدّامُ فَيَنبَغِي أنْ يَكُونُوا مُخلِصِينَ لِزَوجاتِهِمْ، وَقادِرِينَ عَلَى الِاهتِمامِ بِالأطفالِ وَبِأهلِ بَيتِهِمْ.

13 F or those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. The Great Mystery

فَالَّذِينَ يَخدِمُونَ خِدمَةً حَسَنَةً مِنْ هَذا النَّوعِ يَنالُونَ مَنزِلَةً حَسَنَةً، وَثِقَةً فِي إيمانِهِمْ بِالمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ. سِرُّ حَياتِنا

14 T hese things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly;

أكتُبُ إلَيكَ هَذِهِ الأُمُورُ رُغمَ أنِّي آمُلُ أنْ آتِيَ لِرُؤيَتِكَ سَرِيعاً.

15 b ut if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

لَكِنْ إذا تَأخَّرتُ فِي مَجِيئِي، سَتُعلِمُكَ هَذِهِ الرِّسالَةُ كَيفَ يَنبَغِي أنْ يَتَصَرَّفَ المُؤمِنُ فِي بَيتِ اللهِ، أيْ كَنِيسَةِ اللهِ الحَيِّ، دَعامَةِ الحَقِّ وَقاعِدَتِهِ.

16 A nd without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.

وَبِلا شَكٍّ، فَإنَّ سِرَّ حَياتِنا فِي عِبادَةِ اللهِ سِرٌّ عَظِيمٌ: اللهُ ظَهَرَ فِي جَسَدٍ بَشَرِيٍّ، شَهِدَ الرُّوحُ لِبِرِّهِ، رَأتْهُ مَلائِكَةٌ، بُشِّرَ بِهِ بَينَ الشُّعُوبِ، آمَنَ العالَمُ بِهِ، وَرُفِعَ إلَى السَّماءِ فِي مَجدٍ.
