1 T he preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

Del hombre son los propósitos del corazón, mas del Señor es la respuesta de la lengua.

2 A ll the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the spirits.

Todos los caminos del hombre son limpios ante sus propios ojos, pero el Señor sondea los espíritus.

3 C ommit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.

Encomienda tus obras al Señor, y tus propósitos se afianzarán.

4 T he Lord has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.

Todas las cosas hechas por el Señor tienen su propio fin, aun el impío, para el día del mal.

5 E veryone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.

Abominación al Señor es todo el que es altivo de corazón; ciertamente no quedará sin castigo.

6 I n mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.

Con misericordia y verdad se expía la culpa, y con el temor del Señor el hombre se aparta del mal.

7 W hen a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Cuando los caminos del hombre son agradables al Señor, aun a sus enemigos hace que estén en paz con él.

8 B etter is a little with righteousness, Than vast revenues without justice.

Mejor es poco con justicia, que gran ganancia con injusticia.

9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

La mente del hombre planea su camino, pero el Señor dirige sus pasos.

10 D ivination is on the lips of the king; His mouth must not transgress in judgment.

Oráculo hay en los labios del rey; en el juicio no debe errar su boca.

11 H onest weights and scales are the Lord ’s; All the weights in the bag are His work.

El peso y las balanzas justas son del Señor; todas las pesas de la bolsa son obra suya.

12 I t is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, For a throne is established by righteousness.

Es abominación para los reyes cometer iniquidad, porque el trono se afianza en la justicia.

13 R ighteous lips are the delight of kings, And they love him who speaks what is right.

El agrado de los reyes son los labios justos, y amado será el que hable lo recto.

14 A s messengers of death is the king’s wrath, But a wise man will appease it.

El furor del rey es como mensajero de muerte, pero el hombre sabio lo aplacará.

15 I n the light of the king’s face is life, And his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain.

En el resplandor del rostro del rey hay vida, y su favor es como nube de lluvia tardía.

16 H ow much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

Adquirir sabiduría, cuánto mejor que el oro, y adquirir inteligencia es preferible a la plata.

17 T he highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

La senda de los rectos es apartarse del mal; el que guarda su camino preserva su alma.

18 P ride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Delante de la destrucción va el orgullo, y delante de la caída, la altivez de espíritu.

19 B etter to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Mejor es ser de espíritu humilde con los pobres que dividir el botín con los soberbios.

20 H e who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.

El que pone atención a la palabra hallará el bien, y el que confía en el Señor es bienaventurado.

21 T he wise in heart will be called prudent, And sweetness of the lips increases learning.

El sabio de corazón será llamado prudente, y la dulzura de palabras aumenta la persuasión.

22 U nderstanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools is folly.

El entendimiento es fuente de vida para el que lo posee, mas la instrucción de los necios es necedad.

23 T he heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.

El corazón del sabio enseña a su boca y añade persuasión a sus labios.

24 P leasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Panal de miel son las palabras agradables, dulces al alma y salud para los huesos.

25 T here is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Hay camino que al hombre le parece derecho, pero al final es camino de muerte.

26 T he person who labors, labors for himself, For his hungry mouth drives him on.

El apetito del trabajador para él trabaja, porque su boca lo impulsa.

27 A n ungodly man digs up evil, And it is on his lips like a burning fire.

El hombre indigno urde el mal, y sus palabras son como fuego abrasador.

28 A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.

El hombre perverso provoca contiendas, y el chismoso separa a los mejores amigos.

29 A violent man entices his neighbor, And leads him in a way that is not good.

El hombre violento incita a su prójimo, y lo guía por camino que no es bueno.

30 H e winks his eye to devise perverse things; He purses his lips and brings about evil.

El que guiña los ojos lo hace para tramar perversidades; el que aprieta los labios ya hizo el mal.

31 T he silver-haired head is a crown of glory, If it is found in the way of righteousness.

La cabeza canosa es corona de gloria, y se encuentra en el camino de la justicia.

32 H e who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

Mejor es el lento para la ira que el poderoso, y el que domina su espíritu que el que toma una ciudad.

33 T he lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord.

La suerte se echa en el regazo, mas del Señor viene toda decisión.
