1 B eloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder),

Amados, esta es ya la segunda carta que os escribo, en las cuales, como recordatorio, despierto en vosotros vuestro sincero entendimiento,

2 t hat you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,

para que recordéis las palabras dichas de antemano por los santos profetas, y el mandamiento del Señor y Salvador declarado por vuestros apóstoles.

3 k nowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,

Ante todo, sabed esto: que en los últimos días vendrán burladores, con su sarcasmo, siguiendo sus propias pasiones,

4 a nd saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

y diciendo: ¿Dónde está la promesa de su venida ? Porque desde que los padres durmieron, todo continúa tal como estaba desde el principio de la creación.

5 F or this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,

Pues cuando dicen esto, no se dan cuenta de que los cielos existían desde hace mucho tiempo, y también la tierra, surgida del agua y establecida entre las aguas por la palabra de Dios,

6 b y which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.

por lo cual el mundo de entonces fue destruido, siendo inundado con agua;

7 B ut the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

pero los cielos y la tierra actuales están reservados por su palabra para el fuego, guardados para el día del juicio y de la destrucción de los impíos. El día del Señor

8 B ut, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Pero, amados, no ignoréis esto: que para el Señor un día es como mil años, y mil años como un día.

9 T he Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. The Day of the Lord

El Señor no se tarda en cumplir su promesa, según algunos entienden la tardanza, sino que es paciente para con vosotros, no queriendo que nadie perezca, sino que todos vengan al arrepentimiento.

10 B ut the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón, en el cual los cielos pasarán con gran estruendo, y los elementos serán destruidos con fuego intenso, y la tierra y las obras que hay en ella serán quemadas.

11 T herefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,

Puesto que todas estas cosas han de ser destruidas de esta manera, ¡qué clase de personas no debéis ser vosotros en santa conducta y en piedad,

12 l ooking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

esperando y apresurando la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos serán destruidos por fuego y los elementos se fundirán con intenso calor!

13 N evertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Be Steadfast

Pero, según su promesa, nosotros esperamos nuevos cielos y nueva tierra, en los cuales mora la justicia. Exhortación final

14 T herefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;

Por tanto, amados, puesto que aguardáis estas cosas, procurad con diligencia ser hallados por El en paz, sin mancha e irreprensibles,

15 a nd consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,

y considerad la paciencia de nuestro Señor como salvación, tal como os escribió también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le fue dada.

16 a s also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

Asimismo en todas sus cartas habla en ellas de esto; en las cuales hay algunas cosas difíciles de entender, que los ignorantes e inestables tuercen—como también tuercen el resto de las Escrituras —para su propia perdición.

17 Y ou therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;

Por tanto, amados, sabiendo esto de antemano, estad en guardia, no sea que arrastrados por el error de hombres libertinos, caigáis de vuestra firmeza;

18 b ut grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

antes bien, creced en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A El sea la gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén.
