1 I n the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

Iehoahaz, fiul lui Iehu, a început să domnească peste Israel, în Samaria, în al douăzeci şi treilea an al domniei lui Ioaş, fiul lui Ahazia, şi a domnit timp de şaptesprezece ani.

2 A nd he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. He did not depart from them.

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, trăind în păcatele lui Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, cel care l-a făcut pe Israel să păcătuiască, şi nu s-a depărtat de la ele.

3 T hen the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-Hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.

Mânia Domnului s-a aprins împotriva lui Israel, şi El l-a dat pe mâna lui Hazael, regele Aramului, şi pe mâna lui Ben-Hadad, fiul său, în tot timpul cât au trăit aceştia.

4 S o Jehoahaz pleaded with the Lord, and the Lord listened to him; for He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

Iehoahaz a căutat faţa Domnului şi Domnul l-a ascultat pentru că a văzut felul în care Israel era asuprit, căci regele Aramului îi asuprea pe israeliţi.

5 T hen the Lord gave Israel a deliverer, so that they escaped from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before.

Prin urmare, Domnul i-a dat lui Israel un eliberator şi poporul a scăpat din mâna arameilor. Israeliţii au locuit în corturile lor ca mai înainte.

6 N evertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the wooden image also remained in Samaria.

Dar cu toate acestea ei nu s-au depărtat de păcatele familiei lui Ieroboam, care l-a făcut pe Israel să păcătuiască, ci au umblat în ele. De asemenea, stâlpul Aşerei a continuat să rămână în picioare în Samaria.

7 F or He left of the army of Jehoahaz only fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers; for the king of Syria had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing.

Din toată oştirea lui Iehoahaz, n-au mai rămas decât cincizeci de călăreţi, zece care şi zece mii de pedestraşi, căci regele Aramului îi distrusese şi îi făcuse ca pulberea pe care o calci în picioare.

8 N ow the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Iehoahaz, tot ce a făcut el şi isprăvile lui, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Israel“?

9 S o Jehoahaz rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Joash his son reigned in his place. Jehoash Reigns in Israel

Iehoahaz s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi a fost înmormântat în Samaria, iar în locul lui a domnit fiul său Iehoaş. Domnia lui Iehoaş peste Israel

10 I n the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

În al treizeci şi şaptelea an al domniei lui Ioaş, regele lui Iuda, Iehoaş, fiul lui Iehoahaz, a început să domnească peste Israel, în Samaria, şi a domnit timp de şaisprezece ani.

11 A nd he did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, but walked in them.

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului şi nu s-a depărtat de nici unul din păcatele lui Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, cel care l-a făcut pe Israel să păcătuiască.

12 N ow the rest of the acts of Joash, all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Iehoaş, tot ce a făcut el şi isprăvile lui din războiul împotriva lui Amaţia, regele lui Iuda, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Israel“?

13 S o Joash rested with his fathers. Then Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Death of Elisha

Iehoaş s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi în locul lui a domnit Ieroboam. Iehoaş a fost înmormântat în Samaria, alături de regii lui Israel.

14 E lisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. Then Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over his face, and said, “O my father, my father, the chariots of Israel and their horsemen!”

Elisei s-a îmbolnăvit de o boală de care a murit. Iehoaş, regele lui Israel, venise la el ca să-l vadă şi plânsese înaintea lui, bocind astfel: – Părintele meu! Părintele meu! Carul lui Israel şi călăreţii lui!

15 A nd Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and some arrows.” So he took himself a bow and some arrows.

– Ia un arc şi nişte săgeţi! i-a zis Elisei. Şi el a luat un arc şi nişte săgeţi.

16 T hen he said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow.” So he put his hand on it, and Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.

– Acum încordează arcul cu mâna ta! i-a zis el regelui lui Israel. După ce a încordat arcul cu mâna lui, Elisei şi-a pus mâinile pe mâinile regelui.

17 A nd he said, “Open the east window”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot”; and he shot. And he said, “The arrow of the Lord ’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them. ”

– Deschide fereastra dinspre răsărit! i-a zis Elisei. Şi el a deschis-o. – Trage! i-a zis Elisei. Şi el a tras. – Aceasta este săgeata biruinţei Domnului, o săgeată a biruinţei împotriva lui Aram, i-a zis Elisei, căci tu îi vei lovi pe aramei la Afek până îi vei nimici.

18 T hen he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped.

Apoi i-a zis: – Ia săgeţile! Şi el le-a luat. – Loveşte pământul cu ele! i-a zis el regelui lui Israel. El a lovit pământul de trei ori, după care s-a oprit.

19 A nd the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times.”

Omul lui Dumnezeu s-a mâniat pe el şi i-a zis: – Ar fi trebuit să loveşti de cinci sau de şase ori şi atunci i-ai fi lovit pe aramei până i-ai fi nimicit. Acum însă îi vei învinge doar de trei ori.

20 T hen Elisha died, and they buried him. And the raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year.

Aşadar, Elisei a murit şi a fost înmormântat. În anul următor nişte cete de moabiţi au invadat ţara.

21 S o it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet. Israel Recaptures Cities from Syria

Când au văzut una dintre aceste cete, nişte israeliţi care îngropau un mort s-au grăbit şi au aruncat trupul mortului în mormântul lui Elisei. Când trupul mortului a atins oasele lui Elisei, omul a înviat şi s-a ridicat în picioare.

22 A nd Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

Hazael, regele Aramului, l-a asuprit pe Israel în tot timpul vieţii lui Iehoahaz.

23 B ut the Lord was gracious to them, had compassion on them, and regarded them, because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence.

Totuşi Domnul a fost îndurător faţă de israeliţi şi a avut milă de ei, întorcându-Şi faţa spre ei datorită legământului Său cu Avraam, Isaac şi Iacov. Nici până acum n-a dorit să-i distrugă sau să-i izgonească din prezenţa Lui.

24 N ow Hazael king of Syria died. Then Ben-Hadad his son reigned in his place.

Hazael, regele Aramului, a murit, iar în locul lui a domnit fiul său Ben-Hadad.

25 A nd Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz recaptured from the hand of Ben-Hadad, the son of Hazael, the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times Joash defeated him and recaptured the cities of Israel.

Atunci Iehoaş, fiul lui Iehoahaz, a luat înapoi de sub stăpânirea lui Ben-Hadad, fiul lui Hazael, cetăţile pe care le cucerise Hazael de la Iehoahaz, tatăl său. Iehoaş l-a învins de trei ori şi astfel a luat înapoi cetăţile lui Israel.
