1 M oreover Elihu answered and said:

Elihu a mai zis:

2 “ Do you think this is right? Do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s’?

„Crezi că lucrul acesta este drept? Tu zici: «Sunt drept înaintea lui Dumnezeu.»

3 F or you say, ‘What advantage will it be to You? What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?’

Însă mai spui: «Ce folos am şi ce câştig dacă nu păcătuiesc?»

4 “ I will answer you, And your companions with you.

Îţi voi răspunde ţie şi prietenilor tăi.

5 L ook to the heavens and see; And behold the clouds— They are higher than you.

Uită-te la ceruri şi vezi; priveşte cât sunt de sus norii faţă de tine!

6 I f you sin, what do you accomplish against Him? Or, if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to Him?

Dacă ai păcătuit, ce rău Îi faci Lui? Dacă ai greşit de multe ori, ce-I faci Lui?

7 I f you are righteous, what do you give Him? Or what does He receive from your hand?

Dacă eşti drept, ce-I dai Lui? Ce primeşte El din mâna Ta?

8 Y our wickedness affects a man such as you, And your righteousness a son of man.

Răutatea ta nu dăunează decât semenului tău şi dreptatea ta nu e de folos decât fiilor oamenilor.

9 “ Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry out for help because of the arm of the mighty.

Oamenii strigă din cauza asupririlor grele; ei cer izbăvire de sub mâna celui puternic,

10 B ut no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night,

dar nimeni nu zice: «Unde este Dumnezeu, Făcătorul meu, Care ne dă cântări de veselie noaptea,

11 W ho teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, And makes us wiser than the birds of heaven?’

Care ne învaţă prin animalele pământului şi ne face înţelepţi prin păsările cerului?»

12 T here they cry out, but He does not answer, Because of the pride of evil men.

El nu răspunde când oamenii strigă, din cauza mândriei celor răi.

13 S urely God will not listen to empty talk, Nor will the Almighty regard it.

Într-adevăr Dumnezeu nu ascultă strigătul lor în van; Cel Atotputernic nu-i dă atenţie.

14 A lthough you say you do not see Him, Yet justice is before Him, and you must wait for Him.

Cu atât mai mult deci când zici că nu-L vezi, că pricina ta este înaintea Lui şi că trebuie să aştepţi,

15 A nd now, because He has not punished in His anger, Nor taken much notice of folly,

că mânia Sa nu pedepseşte niciodată şi că nu-I pasă prea mult de nelegiuire.

16 T herefore Job opens his mouth in vain; He multiplies words without knowledge.”

Prin urmare, Iov îşi deschide gura degeaba şi spune o mulţime de vorbe fără cunoştinţă.“
