1 A fter this Absalom the son of David had a lovely sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

Timpul a trecut. Absalom, fiul lui David, avea o soră frumoasă, pe nume Tamar, de care s-a îndrăgostit Amnon, fiul lui David.

2 A mnon was so distressed over his sister Tamar that he became sick; for she was a virgin. And it was improper for Amnon to do anything to her.

Amnon era atât de chinuit din această cauză, încât s-a îmbolnăvit tânjind după sora sa Tamar; căci ea era fecioară şi-i venea greu lui Amnon să-i facă ceva.

3 B ut Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man.

Amnon avea un prieten, pe Ionadab, fiul lui Şimea, fratele lui David. Ionadab acesta era un om foarte şiret.

4 A nd he said to him, “Why are you, the king’s son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”

L-a întrebat pe Amnon: – De ce tu, fiul regelui, arăţi tot mai slăbit cu fiecare dimineaţă ce trece? Nu vrei să-mi spui? – Sunt îndrăgostit de Tamar, sora fratelui meu Absalom, i-a răspuns Amnon.

5 S o Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’”

– Culcă-te în patul tău, i-a zis Ionadab, şi prefă-te că eşti bolnav. Când tatăl tău va veni să te vadă, să-i spui: „Să vină, te rog, sora mea Tamar şi să-mi dea să mănânc ceva; să-mi prepare mâncarea sub privirea mea ca s-o pot vedea şi să pot mânca din mâna ei.“

6 T hen Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let Tamar my sister come and make a couple of cakes for me in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”

Amnon s-a culcat şi s-a prefăcut bolnav. Regele a venit să-l vadă, iar Amnon i-a zis: – Să vină, te rog, sora mea, Tamar, să-mi coacă două turte sub privirea mea şi să mănânc din mâna ei.

7 A nd David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Now go to your brother Amnon’s house, and prepare food for him.”

David a trimis acasă la Tamar să i se spună: „Du-te, te rog, acasă la fratele tău Amnon şi găteşte-i ceva de mâncare.“

8 S o Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was lying down. Then she took flour and kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.

Tamar s-a dus acasă la fratele său Amnon, pe care l-a găsit culcat. A luat nişte aluat, l-a frământat, a făcut turtele sub privirea lui şi apoi le-a copt.

9 A nd she took the pan and placed them out before him, but he refused to eat. Then Amnon said, “Have everyone go out from me.” And they all went out from him.

După aceea, a luat tigaia şi l-a servit, însă Amnon n-a vrut să mănânce. El a zis: – Toată lumea să iasă afară! Şi toţi slujitorii au ieşit afară.

10 T hen Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the bedroom, that I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to Amnon her brother in the bedroom.

Atunci Amnon i-a zis lui Tamar: – Adu mâncarea în dormitor pentru ca să pot mânca din mâna ta. Tamar a luat turtele pe care le făcuse şi le-a adus fratelui său Amnon în dormitor.

11 N ow when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister.”

Când ea s-a apropiat de el ca să-i dea să mănânce, el a apucat-o strâns şi i-a zis: – Soro, vino şi culcă-te cu mine!

12 B ut she answered him, “No, my brother, do not force me, for no such thing should be done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing!

– Nu, frate, nu mă necinsti! i-a răspuns Tamar. Nu săvârşi ticăloşia aceasta, căci un asemenea lucru nu este îngăduit în Israel.

13 A nd I, where could I take my shame? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.”

Unde mă voi duce cu ruşinea mea? Iar tu vei fi socotit drept un ticălos în Israel. Vorbeşte, te rog, cu regele şi el nu mă va opri să fiu a ta.

14 H owever, he would not heed her voice; and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.

El însă n-a vrut s-o asculte şi, fiind mai puternic decât ea, a necinstit-o culcându-se cu ea.

15 T hen Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Arise, be gone!”

După aceea, Amnon a urât-o foarte tare pe Tamar, ura aceasta fiind chiar mai mare decât iubirea pe care o avusese pentru ea. Amnon i-a zis: – Scoală-te şi pleacă!

16 S o she said to him, “No, indeed! This evil of sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me.” But he would not listen to her.

– Nu! i-a zis ea. Alungându-mă, faci un rău şi mai mare decât cel pe care l-ai făcut deja. Amnon însă n-a vrut s-o asculte

17 T hen he called his servant who attended him, and said, “Here! Put this woman out, away from me, and bolt the door behind her.”

şi, chemându-l pe tânărul care-l slujea, i-a zis: – Scoateţi-o afară pe femeia aceasta şi închideţi uşa după ea!

18 N ow she had on a robe of many colors, for the king’s virgin daughters wore such apparel. And his servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.

Slujitorul său a făcut întocmai cum i se poruncise. Tamar purta o tunică decorată, căci cu astfel de veşminte se îmbrăcau fiicele regelui care erau fecioare.

19 T hen Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her robe of many colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head and went away crying bitterly.

Fiind izgonită, ea şi-a presărat cenuşă pe cap, şi-a sfâşiat roba decorată pe care o purta, şi-a pus mâinile pe cap şi a plecat ţipând.

20 A nd Absalom her brother said to her, “Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother; do not take this thing to heart.” So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom’s house.

Absalom, fratele ei, a întrebat-o: „Fratele tău Amnon a fost cu tine? Acum, sora mea, taci şi nu fi mâhnită pentru ceea ce s-a întâmplat, căci este fratele tău.“ Şi Tamar, îndurerată, a rămas în casa fratelui său Absalom.

21 B ut when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.

Când regele David a auzit ce s-a întâmplat s-a mâniat foarte tare.

22 A nd Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad. For Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. Absalom Murders Amnon

Absalom nu a mai vorbit deloc cu Amnon, dar Absalom îl ura pe Amnon pentru că acesta o necinstise pe sora sa, Tamar. Absalom se răzbună pe Amnon

23 A nd it came to pass, after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, which is near Ephraim; so Absalom invited all the king’s sons.

Doi ani mai târziu, Absalom îşi tundea oile la Baal-Haţor, lângă hotarul cu Efraim. Şi Absalom i-a invitat pe toţi fiii regelui.

24 T hen Absalom came to the king and said, “Kindly note, your servant has sheepshearers; please, let the king and his servants go with your servant.”

S-a dus la rege şi i-a zis: – Iată, slujitorul tău îşi tunde oile. Te rog, să vină regele cu slujitorii lui la slujitorul tău!

25 B ut the king said to Absalom, “No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be a burden to you.” Then he urged him, but he would not go; and he blessed him.

Dar regele i-a zis lui Absalom: – Nu, fiule, nu vom veni toţi, ca să nu fim o povară pentru tine. Deşi Absalom a stăruit de el, regele n-a vrut să meargă, însă l-a binecuvântat.

26 T hen Absalom said, “If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.” And the king said to him, “Why should he go with you?”

Atunci Absalom i-a zis: – Dă-i voie, te rog, măcar fratelui meu Amnon să vină cu noi. – De ce să vină tocmai Amnon cu tine? l-a întrebat regele.

27 B ut Absalom urged him; so he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

Absalom însă a stăruit de el, astfel că regele l-a trimis pe Amnon, împreună cu toţi ceilalţi fii ai săi, să meargă cu el.

28 N ow Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, “Watch now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon!’ then kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant.”

Absalom le-a poruncit slujitorilor săi: „Aşteptaţi până când inima lui Amnon se va înveseli de vin şi când vă voi zice: «Loviţi-l pe Amnon!», atunci să-l ucideţi. Nu vă fie teamă! Oare nu eu v-am poruncit acest lucru? Fiţi tari şi arătaţi-vă vitejia!“

29 S o the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and each one got on his mule and fled.

Slujitorii lui Absalom i-au făcut lui Amnon întocmai cum le poruncise stăpânul lor. Atunci ceilalţi fii ai regelui au încălecat fiecare pe catârul lui şi au fugit.

30 A nd it came to pass, while they were on the way, that news came to David, saying, “Absalom has killed all the king’s sons, and not one of them is left!”

În timp ce veneau ei spre palat, regelui i-a sosit vestea că Absalom i-a ucis pe toţi fiii regelui, nelăsând în viaţă pe nici unul dintre ei.

31 S o the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the ground, and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.

Auzind acestea, regele s-a sculat, şi-a sfâşiat hainele şi s-a culcat la pământ; slujitorii săi stăteau în picioare, având şi ei hainele sfâşiate.

32 T hen Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answered and said, “Let not my lord suppose they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons, for only Amnon is dead. For by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

Ionadab, fiul lui Şimea, fratele lui David, i-a spus însă regelui: „Să nu se gândească stăpânul meu că toţi tinerii, fiii regelui, au fost ucişi; numai Amnon a murit. Acest lucru a fost plănuit de către Absalom încă din ziua în care Amnon a necinstit-o pe sora acestuia, pe Tamar.

33 N ow therefore, let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead. For only Amnon is dead.” Absalom Flees to Geshur

De aceea să nu pună la inimă stăpânul meu, regele, zvonul că toţi fiii regelui au murit, pentru că doar Amnon a murit.“

34 T hen Absalom fled. And the young man who was keeping watch lifted his eyes and looked, and there, many people were coming from the road on the hillside behind him.

Între timp, Absalom a fugit. La un moment dat, străjerul şi-a ridicat privirea şi a zărit venind pe drumul dinspre apus, coborând muntele, o ceată mare de oameni.

35 A nd Jonadab said to the king, “Look, the king’s sons are coming; as your servant said, so it is.”

Atunci Ionadab i-a zis regelui: „Iată că sosesc fiii regelui; s-a întâmplat întocmai cum a spus slujitorul tău.“

36 S o it was, as soon as he had finished speaking, that the king’s sons indeed came, and they lifted up their voice and wept. Also the king and all his servants wept very bitterly.

Nu a terminat bine de vorbit că au şi sosit fiii regelui. Ei au început să plângă în hohote, iar regele împreună cu slujitorii săi au început şi ei să plângă foarte tare.

37 B ut Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

Absalom a fugit şi s-a dus la Talmai, fiul lui Amihud, regele Gheşurului, iar regele David plângea după fiul său în fiecare zi.

38 S o Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

După ce Absalom a fugit şi a ajuns în Gheşur, a rămas acolo trei ani.

39 A nd King David longed to go to Absalom. For he had been comforted concerning Amnon, because he was dead.

Regele David a încetat să-l mai urmărească pe Absalom deoarece se împăcase cu gândul că Amnon a murit.
