1 S o Abijah rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. Then Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet for ten years. Asa Reigns in Judah

Abia s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi l-au înmormântat în Cetatea lui David, iar în locul lui a domnit fiul său Asa. Domnia lui Asa peste Iuda Pe vremea lui Asa, în ţară a fost pace timp de zece ani.

2 A sa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God,

Asa a făcut ce este bine şi drept înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeul lui.

3 f or he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images.

El a îndepărtat altarele străine şi înălţimile, a zdrobit stâlpii sacri şi a tăiat aşerele.

4 H e commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment.

El i-a poruncit lui Iuda să-L caute pe Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşilor săi, şi să împlinească Legea şi poruncile.

5 H e also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him.

A îndepărtat înălţimile şi altarele pentru tămâiere din toate cetăţile lui Iuda. Şi regatul a avut parte de pace sub conducerea lui.

6 A nd he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the Lord had given him rest.

El a putut zidi cetăţi fortificate în Iuda, căci în ţară era pace. Nimeni nu a pornit război împotriva lui în anii aceia, căci Domnul îi dăduse odihnă.

7 T herefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and make walls around them, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us, because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

El a zis lui Iuda: „Să zidim cetăţile acestea şi să le împrejmuim cu ziduri, turnuri şi porţi cu zăvoare! Ţara este încă a noastră, pentru că L-am căutat pe Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru. Noi L-am căutat şi astfel El ne-a dat pace de jur împrejur.“ Prin urmare, ei au zidit şi au prosperat.

8 A nd Asa had an army of three hundred thousand from Judah who carried shields and spears, and from Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand men who carried shields and drew bows; all these were mighty men of valor.

Asa avea o oştire alcătuită din trei sute de mii de bărbaţi din Iuda, care purtau scut şi suliţă şi două sute optzeci de mii de bărbaţi din Beniamin, care purtau scutul şi trăgeau cu arcul; toţi aceştia erau războinici viteji.

9 T hen Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

Zerah, cuşitul, a ieşit la război împotriva lor cu o oştire alcătuită dintr-un milion de luptători şi trei sute de care. El a ajuns până la Mareşa.

10 S o Asa went out against him, and they set the troops in battle array in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

Asa i-a ieşit împotrivă şi s-au aşezat în poziţie de luptă în valea Ţefata, lângă Mareşa.

11 A nd Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “ Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”

Asa L-a chemat pe Domnul, Dumnezeul său, şi I-a zis: „ Doamne, nu este nimeni ca Tine, Care să-l ajute pe cel lipsit de putere să răzbească împotriva celui puternic. Ajută-ne, Doamne, Dumnezeul nostru, căci ne încredem în Tine şi în Numele Tău am venit aici, împotriva acestei mulţimi. Doamne, Tu eşti Dumnezeul nostru! Nu lăsa un om să iasă biruitor împotriva Ta!“

12 S o the Lord struck the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

Domnul i-a lovit pe cuşiţi înaintea lui Asa şi a lui Iuda, iar cuşiţii au luat-o la fugă.

13 A nd Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So the Ethiopians were overthrown, and they could not recover, for they were broken before the Lord and His army. And they carried away very much spoil.

Asa şi poporul care era împreună cu el i-au urmărit până la Gherar şi mulţi dintre cuşiţi au căzut rămânând fără viaţă, căci au fost zdrobiţi dinaintea Domnului şi a oştirii Sale. Ei au luat o mare pradă de război.

14 T hen they defeated all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the Lord came upon them; and they plundered all the cities, for there was exceedingly much spoil in them.

Totodată ei au distrus toate cetăţile din preajma Gherarului, căci groaza Domnului intrase în ele. Ei au prădat toate aceste cetăţi, căci găsiseră multă pradă în ele.

15 T hey also attacked the livestock enclosures, and carried off sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

De asemenea, au distrus adăposturile turmelor şi au pus mâna pe o mulţime de oi şi de cămile. Apoi s-au întors la Ierusalim.
