1 J oash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

Ioaş era în vârstă de şapte ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de patruzeci de ani. Mama lui se numea Ţibia şi era din Beer-Şeba.

2 J oash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

Ioaş a făcut ce este drept înaintea Domnului, în tot timpul vieţii preotului Iehoiada.

3 A nd Jehoiada took two wives for him, and he had sons and daughters.

Iehoiada i-a ales două soţii şi astfel lui Ioaş i s-au născut fii şi fiice.

4 N ow it happened after this that Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the Lord.

După aceea, Ioaş s-a hotărât în inima lui să restaureze Casa Domnului.

5 T hen he gathered the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that you do it quickly.” However the Levites did not do it quickly.

A convocat preoţii şi leviţii şi le-a zis: „Mergeţi în cetăţile lui Iuda şi strângeţi de la toţi israeliţii darea anuală pentru restaurarea Casei Dumnezeului vostru. Împliniţi-vă degrabă însărcinarea!“ Dar leviţii nu s-au grăbit.

6 S o the king called Jehoiada the chief priest, and said to him, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and from Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the Lord and of the assembly of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?”

Regele l-a chemat pe Iehoiada, preotul conducător, şi i-a zis: „De ce nu ai vegheat ca leviţii să strângă din Iuda şi din Ierusalim contribuţia rânduită de Moise, robul Domnului, şi de adunarea lui Israel pentru Cortul Mărturiei?

7 F or the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken into the house of God, and had also presented all the dedicated things of the house of the Lord to the Baals.

Căci nelegiuita aceea de Atalia şi fiii ei au despuiat Casa lui Dumnezeu şi au dedicat baalilor toate lucrurile sfinte ale Casei Domnului. “

8 T hen at the king’s command they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of the Lord.

La porunca regelui, au făcut un cufăr şi l-au pus afară, la poarta Casei Domnului.

9 A nd they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring to the Lord the collection that Moses the servant of God had imposed on Israel in the wilderness.

Apoi au dat de veste în Iuda şi în Ierusalim ca oamenii să aducă Domnului contribuţia rânduită de Moise, robul lui Dumnezeu, asupra lui Israel în pustie.

10 T hen all the leaders and all the people rejoiced, brought their contributions, and put them into the chest until all had given.

Toate căpeteniile şi întregul popor şi-au adus contribuţia cu bucurie, până când cufărul s-a umplut.

11 S o it was, at that time, when the chest was brought to the king’s official by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, that the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it and returned it to its place. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

Ori de câte ori cufărul era dus de către leviţi la dregătorii regelui, atunci când vedeau că era prea mult argint în el, venea scribul regelui împreună cu slujbaşul preotului conducător şi goleau cufărul. Apoi leviţii îl luau şi îl duceau înapoi la locul lui. Aşa făceau în fiecare zi şi astfel au strâns mult argint.

12 T he king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the house of the Lord; and they hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the Lord, and also those who worked in iron and bronze to restore the house of the Lord.

Apoi regele şi Iehoiada dădeau argintul celor ce se ocupau cu lucrarea de la Casa Domnului, iar aceştia angajau zidari şi tâmplari care să restaureze Casa Domnului, precum şi lucrători în fier şi în aramă care să repare Casa Domnului.

13 S o the workmen labored, and the work was completed by them; they restored the house of God to its original condition and reinforced it.

Lucrătorii s-au apucat de treabă şi astfel, prin lucrarea mâinilor lor, restaurarea a înaintat până când au adus Casa lui Dumnezeu în bună stare şi au consolidat-o.

14 W hen they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada; they made from it articles for the house of the Lord, articles for serving and offering, spoons and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord continually all the days of Jehoiada. Apostasy of Joash

Când au terminat, au adus înaintea regelui şi a lui Iehoiada argintul rămas. Din el au făcut unelte pentru Casa Domnului, unelte pentru slujbă şi pentru arderile de tot, cupe, precum şi vase de aur şi de argint. Cât timp a trăit Iehoiada s-au adus continuu arderi de tot la Casa Domnului.

15 B ut Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died; he was one hundred and thirty years old when he died.

Iehoiada a murit fiind bătrân şi sătul de zile. La moartea sa, avea o sută treizeci de ani.

16 A nd they buried him in the City of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God and His house.

L-au înmormântat în Cetatea lui David, la un loc cu regii, căci făcuse numai bine în Israel, atât cu privire la Dumnezeu, cât şi cu privire la Casa Lui. Apostazia lui Ioaş

17 N ow after the death of Jehoiada the leaders of Judah came and bowed down to the king. And the king listened to them.

După moartea lui Iehoiada, căpeteniile lui Iuda au venit şi şi-au arătat supunerea faţă de rege. Atunci regele a ascultat de ei.

18 T herefore they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and served wooden images and idols; and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem because of their trespass.

Au părăsit Casa Domnului, Dumnezeul strămoşilor lor, au slujit aşerelor şi idolilor. Mânia Domnului a venit asupra lui Iuda şi asupra Ierusalimului din cauza acestei vinovăţii a lor.

19 Y et He sent prophets to them, to bring them back to the Lord; and they testified against them, but they would not listen.

Domnul le-a trimis profeţi ca să-i întoarcă la El, să mărturisească împotriva lor, dar poporul nu a vrut să asculte.

20 T hen the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God: ‘Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the Lord, He also has forsaken you.’”

Atunci Zaharia, fiul preotului Iehoiada, a fost îmbrăcat cu Duhul lui Dumnezeu. El a stat înaintea poporului şi le-a vorbit astfel: „Aşa vorbeşte Dumnezeu: «De ce aţi încălcat poruncile Domnului ? Nu veţi propăşi! Fiindcă L-aţi părăsit pe Domnul, şi El vă va părăsi!»“

21 S o they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the Lord.

Ei însă au uneltit împotriva lui şi, la porunca regelui, l-au ucis cu pietre în curtea Casei Domnului.

22 T hus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said, “The Lord look on it, and repay!” Death of Joash

Regele Ioaş nu şi-a amintit de tot binele pe care i l-a făcut Iehoiada, tatăl acestuia, şi i-a ucis fiul. În timp ce murea, Zaharia a zis: „ Domnul să vadă şi să judece!“

23 S o it happened in the spring of the year that the army of Syria came up against him; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the leaders of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus.

Un an mai târziu, oastea Aramului a înaintat împotriva lui Ioaş. Ei au venit în Iuda şi la Ierusalim şi au nimicit din popor toate căpeteniile poporului, iar prada au trimis-o în întregime regelui din Damasc.

24 F or the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; but the Lord delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

Chiar dacă oastea arameilor a venit cu un mic număr de oameni, Domnul a dat în mâinile lor oştirea mult mai numeroasă a celor din Iuda, căci aceştia Îl părăsiseră pe Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşilor lor. Şi astfel ei au adus judecata asupra lui Ioaş.

25 A nd when they had withdrawn from him (for they left him severely wounded), his own servants conspired against him because of the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed. So he died. And they buried him in the City of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings.

Când arameii au plecat de la el, ei l-au lăsat în chinuri mari. Slujitorii săi au uneltit împotriva lui, din cauza sângelui fiului preotului Iehoiada şi l-au ucis în patul lui. El a murit şi a fost înmormântat în Cetatea lui David. El nu a fost înmormântat însă în mormântul regilor.

26 T hese are the ones who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

Cei care au uneltit împotriva lui au fost Zabad, fiul amonitei Şimat, şi Iehozabad, fiul moabitei Şimrit.

27 N ow concerning his sons, and the many oracles about him, and the repairing of the house of God, indeed they are written in the annals of the book of the kings. Then Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

Cele privitoare la fiii săi, la multele profeţii despre el şi la restaurarea Casei lui Dumnezeu sunt scrise în „Relatarea Cărţii Regilor“. În locul lui a domnit fiul său Amaţia.
