1 N ow before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

Înainte de Sărbătoarea Paştelui, Isus, ştiind că I-a venit ceasul să plece din lumea aceasta la Tatăl, pentru că îi iubea pe ai Săi care erau în lume, i-a iubit până la capăt.

2 A nd supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him,

În timpul cinei, diavolul pusese deja în inima lui Iuda, fiul lui Simon Iscarioteanul, gândul să-L trădeze.

3 J esus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,

Isus, ştiind că Tatăl I-a dat toate lucrurile în mâini, că de la Dumnezeu a ieşit şi la Dumnezeu Se duce,

4 r ose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.

S-a ridicat de la masă, Şi-a pus deoparte hainele, a luat un ştergar şi S-a încins cu el.

5 A fter that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

Apoi a turnat apă într-un lighean şi a început să spele picioarele ucenicilor şi să le şteargă cu ştergarul cu care era încins.

6 T hen He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”

Când a ajuns la Simon Petru, acesta I-a zis: – Doamne, Tu să-mi speli picioarele?!

7 J esus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”

Isus i-a răspuns: – Tu nu pricepi acum ce fac Eu, dar vei înţelege după aceea.

8 P eter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”

Petru I-a zis: – Niciodată nu-mi vei spăla picioarele! Isus i-a răspuns: – Dacă nu te spăl, nu vei avea parte cu Mine!

9 S imon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

Simon Petru I-a zis: – Doamne, nu doar picioarele, ci şi mâinile şi capul!

10 J esus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”

Isus i-a zis: – Cel ce s-a îmbăiat nu are nevoie să se spele decât pe picioare, apoi este curat în întregime. Şi voi sunteţi curaţi, dar nu toţi.

11 F or He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”

Căci El îl ştia pe cel ce urma să-L trădeze; de aceea a spus: „Nu toţi sunteţi curaţi.“

12 S o when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

După ce le-a spălat picioarele, Şi-a luat haina şi S-a aşezat să mănânce din nou. El le-a zis: „Înţelegeţi ce v-am făcut?

13 Y ou call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.

Voi Mă numiţi «Învăţătorul» şi «Domnul» şi bine ziceţi, pentru că sunt.

14 I f I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

Deci dacă Eu – Domnul şi Învăţătorul – v-am spălat picioarele, atunci şi voi sunteţi datori să vă spălaţi picioarele unii altora.

15 F or I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

Căci Eu v-am dat un exemplu, ca să faceţi şi voi aşa cum v-am făcut Eu vouă.

16 M ost assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.

Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că nici un sclav nu este mai mare decât stăpânul lui şi nici un apostol nu este mai mare decât cel ce l-a trimis.

17 I f you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. Jesus Identifies His Betrayer

Dacă ştiţi aceste lucruri, sunteţi fericiţi dacă le faceţi. Descoperirea trădătorului

18 “ I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’

Nu vorbesc despre voi toţi; Eu îi cunosc pe cei pe care i-am ales. Dar trebuie să se împlinească Scriptura care zice: «Cel ce mănâncă pâinea Mea şi-a ridicat călcâiul împotriva Mea!»

19 N ow I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.

Vă spun lucrul acesta de acum, înainte să se întâmple, pentru ca atunci când se va întâmpla, să credeţi că Eu sunt.

20 M ost assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”

Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că cine-l primeşte pe cel pe care-l trimit Eu, pe Mine Mă primeşte, iar cel ce Mă primeşte pe Mine Îl primeşte pe Cel Ce M-a trimis pe Mine.“

21 W hen Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.”

După ce a spus aceste lucruri, Isus a fost tulburat în duhul Său şi a mărturisit zicând: – Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că unul dintre voi Mă va trăda.

22 T hen the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke.

Ucenicii se uitau unii la alţii, fiind nedumeriţi despre cine vorbeşte.

23 N ow there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.

Unul dintre ucenicii Lui, cel pe care-l iubea Isus, stătea la masă sprijinit de pieptul lui Isus.

24 S imon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke.

Simon Petru i-a făcut semn să-L întrebe pe Isus cine este cel despre care vorbeşte.

25 T hen, leaning back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, “Lord, who is it?”

Ca urmare, în timp ce stătea la masă sprijinit de pieptul lui Isus, el L-a întrebat: – Doamne, cine este?

26 J esus answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it. ” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

Isus i-a răspuns: – Este acela căruia îi voi înmuia bucăţica de pâine şi i-o voi da. A înmuiat o bucăţică de pâine şi i-a dat-o lui Iuda, fiul lui Simon Iscarioteanul.

27 N ow after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”

De îndată ce a primit bucăţica de pâine, Satan a intrat în el. Atunci Isus i-a zis: „Ce ai să faci, fă repede!“

28 B ut no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him.

Dar nici unul dintre cei ce mâncau la masă n-a înţeles de ce îi spusese aceasta.

29 F or some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.

Unii credeau că, de vreme ce Iuda ţinea punga, Isus îi spusese: „Cumpără ceea ce avem nevoie pentru sărbătoare!“ sau îi spusese să dea ceva celor săraci.

30 H aving received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night. The New Commandment

După ce a luat bucăţica de pâine, Iuda a ieşit afară imediat. Era noapte. Isus prezice lepădarea lui Petru

31 S o, when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.

După ce acesta a ieşit afară, Isus a zis: – Acum Fiul Omului este proslăvit şi Dumnezeu este proslăvit în El.

32 I f God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.

Dacă Dumnezeu este proslăvit în El, atunci şi Dumnezeu Îl va proslăvi în Sine Însuşi şi-L va proslăvi îndată.

33 L ittle children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you.

Copilaşi, mai sunt puţin cu voi. Mă veţi căuta şi, aşa cum le-am spus iudeilor că „Unde Mă duc Eu, voi nu puteţi veni“, tot aşa vă spun şi vouă acum.

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Vă dau o poruncă nouă: să vă iubiţi unii pe alţii! Aşa cum v-am iubit Eu, tot aşa să vă iubiţi şi voi unii pe alţii.

35 B y this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

Prin aceasta vor cunoaşte toţi că sunteţi ucenicii Mei, dacă veţi avea dragoste unii pentru alţii.

36 S imon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward.”

Simon Petru L-a întrebat: – Doamne, unde Te duci? Isus i-a răspuns: – Acum tu nu poţi să Mă urmezi acolo unde Mă duc Eu, dar mai târziu Mă vei urma.

37 P eter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.”

Petru I-a zis: – Doamne, de ce nu pot să Te urmez acum? Îmi voi da viaţa pentru Tine!

38 J esus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.

Isus i-a răspuns: – Îţi vei da viaţa pentru Mine? Adevărat, adevărat îţi spun că nu va cânta cocoşul până când nu te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!
