1 A fter these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him.

După toate acestea, împăratul Ahaşveroş l-a avansat în funcţie pe Haman, fiul lui Hamedata, agaghitul. Împăratul l-a înălţat şi l-a pus conducător al tuturor demnitarilor săi.

2 A nd all the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai would not bow or pay homage.

Toţi slujitorii împăratului, care stăteau la poarta acestuia, îngenuncheau şi se prosternau înaintea lui Haman, căci aşa le poruncise împăratul. Mardoheu însă nu îngenunchea şi nu se prosterna.

3 T hen the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you transgress the king’s command?”

Slujitorii împăratului, care stăteau la poarta acestuia, i-au zis lui Mardoheu: „De ce încalci porunca împăratului?“

4 N ow it happened, when they spoke to him daily and he would not listen to them, that they told it to Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s words would stand; for Mordecai had told them that he was a Jew.

Deoarece i se spunea lucrul acesta în fiecare zi, iar el continua să nu asculte, slujitorii împăratului l-au înştiinţat pe Haman, ca să vadă dacă atitudinea lui Mardoheu va fi tolerată, căci acesta le spusese că este iudeu.

5 W hen Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was filled with wrath.

Când Haman a văzut că Mardoheu nu îngenunchea şi nu se prosterna înaintea lui, s-a umplut de mânie.

6 B ut he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him of the people of Mordecai. Instead, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus—the people of Mordecai.

A considerat prea puţin lucru să pună mâna numai pe Mardoheu şi, pentru că-l înştiinţaseră despre poporul lui Mardoheu, Haman a plănuit nimicirea tuturor iudeilor, poporul lui Mardoheu, din toată împărăţia lui Ahaşveroş.

7 I n the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur (that is, the lot), before Haman to determine the day and the month, until it fell on the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.

În prima lună, adică în luna Nisan, în anul al doisprezecelea al împăratului Ahaşveroş, au aruncat „Purul“, adică sorţul, înaintea lui Haman, pentru o zi şi pentru o lună, şi a căzut pe luna a douăsprezecea, adică luna Adar.

8 T hen Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from all other people’s, and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain.

Atunci Haman i-a zis împăratului Ahaşveroş: – Există un anumit popor care a fost împrăştiat şi împărţit printre popoare, în toate provinciile împărăţiei tale, un popor ale cărui legi sunt diferite de ale tuturor popoarelor şi nu împlineşte legile împăratului. Nu se cade ca împăratul să le dea pace!

9 I f it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who do the work, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.”

Dacă împăratul încuviinţează, să se scrie atunci un decret prin care ei să fie nimiciţi, iar eu voi cântări zece mii de talanţi de argint în mâinile slujbaşilor ca să fie puşi în vistieria împăratului.

10 S o the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.

Împăratul şi-a scos inelul de pe deget şi i l-a dat lui Haman, fiul lui Hamedata, agaghitul, duşmanul iudeilor.

11 A nd the king said to Haman, “The money and the people are given to you, to do with them as seems good to you.”

Împăratul i-a zis lui Haman: – Poţi să-ţi păstrezi argintul! Iar în privinţa poporului, fă cu ei ce crezi tu de cuviinţă!

12 T hen the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and a decree was written according to all that Haman commanded—to the king’s satraps, to the governors who were over each province, to the officials of all people, to every province according to its script, and to every people in their language. In the name of King Ahasuerus it was written, and sealed with the king’s signet ring.

Scribii împăratului au fost chemaţi în luna întâi, în ziua a treisprezecea, iar ei au scris tot ce le-a poruncit Haman satrapilor împăratului, guvernatorilor puşi peste fiecare provincie şi conducătorilor fiecărui popor, fiecărei provincii în scrierea ei şi fiecărui popor în limba lui. S-a scris în numele împăratului Ahaşveroş şi s-a pus apoi pecetea cu inelul împăratului.

13 A nd the letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and to plunder their possessions.

Scrisorile au fost trimise, prin curieri, spre toate provinciile împăratului şi aveau în vedere atât nimicirea, uciderea şi stârpirea tuturor iudeilor, tineri şi bătrâni, copii şi femei, într-o singură zi, şi anume în ziua a treisprezecea a lunii a douăsprezecea, adică a lunii Adar, cât şi prădarea bunurilor lor.

14 A copy of the document was to be issued as law in every province, being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day.

Câte o copie a documentului a fost dată ca decret în fiecare provincie, anunţând fiecare popor să fie pregătit în vederea acestei zile.

15 T he couriers went out, hastened by the king’s command; and the decree was proclaimed in Shushan the citadel. So the king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Shushan was perplexed.

Curierii au plecat în mare grabă, după porunca împăratului. Decretul a fost dat şi în citadela Susei. În timp ce împăratul şi Haman s-au aşezat să bea, cei din cetatea Susa au rămas înmărmuriţi.
