1 T herefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. The Corinthians’ Repentance

Preaiubiţilor, întrucât avem aceste promisiuni, să ne curăţim de orice pângăreşte trupul şi duhul, desăvârşind sfinţenia în frică de Dumnezeu. Bucuria lui Pavel

2 O pen your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one.

Deschideţi-vă inima faţă de noi! N-am făcut rău nimănui, n-am corupt pe nimeni, n-am exploatat pe nimeni.

3 I do not say this to condemn; for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together.

Nu spun aceasta ca să vă condamn, căci am spus mai înainte că sunteţi în inimile noastre, fie că murim împreună, fie că trăim împreună.

4 G reat is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation.

Am mare încredere în voi; sunt atât de mândru de voi, sunt încurajat şi foarte bucuros în fiecare dintre necazurile noastre.

5 F or indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears.

Când am venit în Macedonia, trupurile noastre n-au avut odihnă, ci am fost necăjiți în toate felurile: lupte din afară, temeri dinăuntru.

6 N evertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,

Însă Dumnezeu, Care-i încurajează pe cei deznădăjduiţi, ne-a încurajat prin venirea lui Titus,

7 a nd not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

şi nu doar prin venirea sa, ci şi prin încurajarea pe care ne-a adus-o vorbindu-ne despre voi, când ne-a spus despre dorinţa voastră puternică, despre durerea voastră adâncă şi despre devotamentul vostru pentru mine. Astfel, m-am bucurat şi mai mult.

8 F or even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while.

Chiar dacă scrisoarea mea v-a întristat, nu regret. Şi chiar dacă am regretat, căci văd că scrisoarea mea v-a întristat, măcar că numai pentru puţin timp,

9 N ow I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.

totuşi acum mă bucur, nu pentru că aţi fost întristaţi, ci pentru că întristarea voastră v-a dus la pocăinţă, pentru că aţi fost întristaţi după voia lui Dumnezeu, ca nimeni să nu sufere nici o pierdere din cauza noastră.

10 F or godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Căci întristarea după voia lui Dumnezeu lucrează pocăinţa care duce la mântuire şi în ea nu este regret, dar întristarea lumii produce moarte.

11 F or observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Vedeţi ce devotament a produs în voi această întristare după voia lui Dumnezeu, ce apărare, ce indignare, ce teamă, ce dorinţă, ce râvnă, ce dorinţă de dreptate! În toate v-aţi arătat fără vină în această problemă.

12 T herefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you. The Joy of Titus

Astfel, deşi v-am scris, n-am făcut-o din cauza celui ce a făcut răul sau din cauza celui ce a suferit răul, ci pentru a vă arăta cât de profund este devotamentul nostru faţă de voi, înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

13 T herefore we have been comforted in your comfort. And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

Prin aceasta suntem încurajaţi. Pe lângă încurajarea noastră, ne bucurăm şi mai mult de bucuria lui Titus, pentru că duhul lui a fost înviorat de voi toţi.

14 F or if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was found true.

M-am lăudat lui cu voi şi nu m-aţi făcut de ruşine, ci, aşa cum tot ce v-am spus a fost adevărat, tot astfel şi lauda noastră cu voi înaintea lui Titus s-a dovedit adevărată.

15 A nd his affections are greater for you as he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him.

Astfel, dragostea lui pentru voi se întăreşte când îşi reaminteşte de ascultarea voastră, a tuturor, de felul cum l-aţi primit cu frică şi cutremur.

16 T herefore I rejoice that I have confidence in you in everything.

Mă bucur că pot avea deplină încredere în voi.
