1 N ow the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

Apostolii şi fraţii care erau în Iudeea au auzit că neamurile au primit şi ele Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu.

2 A nd when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him,

Când Petru s-a suit la Ierusalim, cei dintre creştinii circumcişi îl criticau,

3 s aying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”

spunând: „Ai intrat în casă la nişte bărbaţi necircumcişi şi ai mâncat cu ei!“

4 B ut Peter explained it to them in order from the beginning, saying:

Atunci Petru a început să le explice pe rând cele întâmplate şi le-a zis:

5 “ I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me.

„Eram în cetatea Iafo şi, în timp ce mă rugam, am văzut, într-o răpire sufletească, o viziune; am văzut ceva ca o pânză mare fiind coborâtă din cer de cele patru colţuri. A venit până la mine.

6 W hen I observed it intently and considered, I saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.

M-am uitat în ea cu atenţie şi am văzut patrupede de pe pământ, fiare sălbatice, animale mici şi păsări ale cerului.

7 A nd I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’

Apoi am auzit un glas care mi-a zis: «Petru, ridică-te, înjunghie şi mănâncă!»

8 B ut I said, ‘Not so, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.’

Însă eu am zis: «În nici un caz, Doamne! Căci niciodată n-a intrat în gura mea ceva pângărit sau necurat!»

9 B ut the voice answered me again from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’

Glasul mi-a vorbit a doua oară din cer: «Ceea ce a curăţit Dumnezeu, să nu numeşti pângărit!»

10 N ow this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.

Lucrul acesta s-a întâmplat de trei ori; apoi toate au fost ridicate iarăşi la cer.

11 A t that very moment, three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea.

Şi iată că imediat după aceea, la poarta casei în care eram stăteau trei bărbaţi, trimişi la mine din Cezareea.

12 T hen the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house.

Duhul mi-a spus să mă duc cu ei fără să fac deosebire. Cu mine au mers şi aceşti şase fraţi; am intrat împreună în casa acelui om,

13 A nd he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter,

iar el ne-a istorisit cum a văzut un înger stând în casa lui şi zicându -i: «Trimite la Iafo şi cheamă-l pe Simon, numit şi Petru,

14 w ho will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’

care îţi va spune cuvinte prin care vei fi mântuit tu şi toată casa ta!»

15 A nd as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.

În timp ce eu începusem să vorbesc, Duhul Sfânt S-a coborât peste ei, aşa cum S-a coborât şi peste noi la început.

16 T hen I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

Atunci mi-am amintit de vorba Domnului, mi-am amintit cum zicea: «Ioan a botezat cu apă, dar voi veţi fi botezaţi cu Duhul Sfânt.»

17 I f therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”

Deci, dacă Dumnezeu le-a dat acelaşi dar ca şi nouă, care am crezut în Domnul Isus Cristos, cine eram eu ca să-L pot împiedica pe Dumnezeu?!“

18 W hen they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.” Barnabas and Saul at Antioch

Când au auzit ei aceste lucruri, s-au liniştit şi L-au slăvit pe Dumnezeu, zicând: „Aşadar, Dumnezeu le-a dat şi neamurilor pocăinţa care duce la viaţă!“ Biserica în Antiohia

19 N ow those who were scattered after the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but the Jews only.

Cei ce fuseseră împrăştiaţi de persecuţia care avusese loc în urma uciderii lui Ştefan au ajuns până în Fenicia, în Cipru şi în Antiohia. Ei nu vorbeau despre Cuvânt nimănui în afară de iudei.

20 B ut some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.

Câţiva dintre ei însă, nişte bărbaţi din Cipru şi din Cirena, care veniseră în Antiohia, le-au vorbit şi eleniştilor, vestindu-le Evanghelia despre Domnul Isus.

21 A nd the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.

Mâna Domnului era cu ei, şi astfel un mare număr de oameni au crezut şi s-au întors la Domnul.

22 T hen news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch.

Vestea despre ei a ajuns şi la urechile bisericii care era în Ierusalim, astfel că l-au trimis pe Barnabas să meargă până în Antiohia.

23 W hen he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.

Când a ajuns şi a văzut harul lui Dumnezeu, s-a bucurat şi i-a îndemnat pe toţi să-I rămână credincioşi Domnului în toată năzuinţa inimii lor.

24 F or he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

Căci Barnabas era un om bun şi plin de Duhul Sfânt şi de credinţă; şi o mare mulţime de oameni a fost adăugată la Domnul.

25 T hen Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul.

S-a dus apoi la Tars, ca să-l caute pe Saul

26 A nd when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Relief to Judea

şi, când l-a găsit, l-a dus în Antiohia. Astfel, timp de un an întreg, ei s-au adunat cu biserica şi au dat învăţătură la o mare mulţime de oameni. În Antiohia ucenicii au fost numiţi pentru prima oară „creştini“.

27 A nd in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch.

În acele zile, au venit de la Ierusalim în Antiohia nişte profeţi.

28 T hen one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.

Unul dintre ei, pe nume Agab, s-a ridicat şi a arătat, prin Duhul Sfânt, că urmează să vină o mare foamete în toată lumea. Şi aşa s-a şi întâmplat în timpul împăratului Claudiu.

29 T hen the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea.

Atunci ucenicii au hotărât să le trimită ajutor fraţilor care locuiau în Iudeea, fiecare după cât avea posibilitate;

30 T his they also did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

şi aşa au şi făcut, trimiţând acest ajutor bătrânilor, prin Barnabas şi Saul.
