1 A nd behold, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel by the word of the Lord, and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

Atunci, un om al lui Dumnezeu a venit din Iuda la Betel, după Cuvântul Domnului, în timp ce Ieroboam stătea lângă altar, arzând tămâie.

2 T hen he cried out against the altar by the word of the Lord, and said, “O altar, altar! Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, a child, Josiah by name, shall be born to the house of David; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and men’s bones shall be burned on you.’”

El a strigat împotriva altarului, potrivit Cuvântului Domnului şi a zis: „Altarule, altarule! Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Iată că se va naşte un fiu Casei lui David, al cărui nume va fi Iosia. El îi va înjunghia pe tine pe preoţii înălţimilor care aduc jertfe aici şi oseminte omeneşti se vor arde pe tine!»“

3 A nd he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which the Lord has spoken: Surely the altar shall split apart, and the ashes on it shall be poured out.”

El a dat un semn în aceeaşi zi, spunând: „Acesta este semnul pe care Domnul l-a dat: altarul se va despica, iar cenuşa din el se va împrăştia.“

4 S o it came to pass when King Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, who cried out against the altar in Bethel, that he stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Arrest him!” Then his hand, which he stretched out toward him, withered, so that he could not pull it back to himself.

Când a auzit cuvântul pe care omul lui Dumnezeu îl vestise împotriva altarului din Betel, regele Ieroboam şi-a întins mâna de deasupra altarului spre el şi a poruncit: „Prindeţi-l!“ Dar mâna pe care o întinsese spre omul lui Dumnezeu s-a uscat, astfel că nu şi-a mai putut-o trage înapoi.

5 T he altar also was split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the Lord.

Altarul s-a despicat, iar cenuşa din el s-a împrăştiat, potrivit semnului pe care omul lui Dumnezeu îl dăduse prin Cuvântul Domnului.

6 T hen the king answered and said to the man of God, “Please entreat the favor of the Lord your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.” So the man of God entreated the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored to him, and became as before.

Atunci regele l-a rugat pe omul lui Dumnezeu: „Mijloceşte la Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi roagă-te pentru mine ca să-mi pot trage mâna înapoi!“ Omul lui Dumnezeu a mijlocit la Domnul, iar mâna regelui s-a refăcut şi a devenit ca mai înainte.

7 T hen the king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”

Regele i-a zis omului lui Dumnezeu: – Vino cu mine acasă, înviorează-te şi îţi voi da un dar!

8 B ut the man of God said to the king, “If you were to give me half your house, I would not go in with you; nor would I eat bread nor drink water in this place.

– Chiar dacă mi-ai da jumătate din averile tale, i-a răspuns omul lui Dumnezeu, nu voi veni cu tine, nu voi mânca pâine, nici nu voi bea apă în acest loc,

9 F or so it was commanded me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘You shall not eat bread, nor drink water, nor return by the same way you came.’”

pentru că mi s-a poruncit prin Cuvântul Domnului: „Să nu mănânci pâine, să nu bei apă şi să nu te întorci pe acelaşi drum pe care te vei duce!“

10 S o he went another way and did not return by the way he came to Bethel. Death of the Man of God

Astfel, el a plecat pe un alt drum şi nu s-a întors pe acelaşi drum pe care venise la Betel.

11 N ow an old prophet dwelt in Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; they also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.

În Betel locuia un profet bătrân. Fiii săi au venit şi i-au istorisit tatălui lor tot ceea ce făcuse omul lui Dumnezeu în Betel în acea zi, precum şi cuvintele pe care i le spusese regelui.

12 A nd their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” For his sons had seen which way the man of God went who came from Judah.

Atunci tatăl lor i-a întrebat: „Pe ce drum a plecat?“ Fiii săi văzuseră pe ce drum plecase omul lui Dumnezeu, care venise din Iuda.

13 T hen he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on it,

Apoi el le-a zis fiilor săi: „Înşeuaţi-mi măgarul!“ După ce i-au înşeuat măgarul, a încălecat pe el

14 a nd went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to him, “ Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he said, “I am. ”

şi s-a dus după omul lui Dumnezeu. L-a găsit şezând sub un stejar şi l-a întrebat: – Tu eşti omul lui Dumnezeu care a venit din Iuda? – Eu sunt, a răspuns el.

15 T hen he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”

– Vino acasă cu mine şi mănâncă ceva, i-a zis el.

16 A nd he said, “I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place.

– Nu pot să mă întorc şi să merg cu tine, nici să mănânc pâine, nici să beau apă în acest loc, i-a răspuns omul lui Dumnezeu,

17 F or I have been told by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall not eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by going the way you came.’”

pentru că mi s-a spus prin Cuvântul Domnului: „Să nu mănânci pâine, nici să nu bei apă acolo şi să nu te întorci pe acelaşi drum pe care te vei duce!“

18 H e said to him, “I too am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” (He was lying to him.)

El i-a zis: – Şi eu sunt profet ca tine. Şi un înger mi-a vorbit prin Cuvântul Domnului, spunând: „Adu-l înapoi acasă cu tine ca să mănânce pâine şi să bea apă!“ Îl minţea.

19 S o he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.

Atunci omul lui Dumnezeu s-a întors cu el, a mâncat pâine şi a băut apă în casa lui.

20 N ow it happened, as they sat at the table, that the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back;

În timp ce stăteau la masă, cuvântul Domnului a venit la profetul care-l adusese înapoi

21 a nd he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord, and have not kept the commandment which the Lord your God commanded you,

şi el a strigat împotriva omului lui Dumnezeu care venise din Iuda: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Pentru că nu L-ai ascultat pe Domnul şi nu ai păzit porunca pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi-a dat-o,

22 b ut you came back, ate bread, and drank water in the place of which the Lord said to you, “Eat no bread and drink no water,” your corpse shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.’”

ci te-ai întors şi ai mâncat pâine şi ai băut apă în locul despre care îţi poruncise să nu mănânci pâine, nici să nu bei apă, trupul tău nu va fi înmormântat în mormântul părinţilor tăi.»“

23 S o it was, after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him, the prophet whom he had brought back.

După ce omul lui Dumnezeu a terminat de mâncat şi de băut, profetul care-l adusese înapoi i-a înşeuat măgarul.

24 W hen he was gone, a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his corpse was thrown on the road, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the corpse.

El a plecat şi a întâlnit pe drum un leu care l-a omorât. Trupul lui a fost aruncat pe drum. Atât măgarul, cât şi leul stăteau lângă trup.

25 A nd there, men passed by and saw the corpse thrown on the road, and the lion standing by the corpse. Then they went and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

Nişte bărbaţi care treceau pe acolo au văzut trupul întins pe drum şi leul stând lângă el şi au venit să spună acest lucru în cetatea în care locuia profetul cel bătrân.

26 N ow when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard it, he said, “It is the man of God who was disobedient to the word of the Lord. Therefore the Lord has delivered him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke to him.”

Când profetul care-l întorsese din drumul lui a auzit acest lucru, a zis: „Acesta este omul lui Dumnezeu care n-a ascultat de Cuvântul Domnului. Domnul l-a dat în ghearele leului care l-a sfâşiat şi l-a omorât, potrivit cuvântului pe care îl spusese Domnul.“

27 A nd he spoke to his sons, saying, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled it.

Apoi le-a zis fiilor săi: „Înşeuaţi-mi măgarul!“ Şi ei l-au înşeuat.

28 T hen he went and found his corpse thrown on the road, and the donkey and the lion standing by the corpse. The lion had not eaten the corpse nor torn the donkey.

El a plecat şi a găsit trupul întins pe drum, iar măgarul şi leul stând lângă el. Leul nu mâncase trupul, nici nu sfâşiase măgarul.

29 A nd the prophet took up the corpse of the man of God, laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. So the old prophet came to the city to mourn, and to bury him.

Atunci profetul a ridicat trupul omului lui Dumnezeu, l-a pus pe măgar şi s-a întors în cetate să-l jelească şi să-l înmormânteze.

30 T hen he laid the corpse in his own tomb; and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”

I-a aşezat trupul în propriul său mormânt şi l-a jelit zicând: „Vai, frate!“

31 S o it was, after he had buried him, that he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I am dead, then bury me in the tomb where the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.

După ce l-a înmormântat, profetul le-a spus fiilor săi: „Când voi muri, îngropaţi-mă în mormântul în care este îngropat omul lui Dumnezeu; aşezaţi-mi oasele lângă oasele lui,

32 F or the saying which he cried out by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel, and against all the shrines on the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely come to pass.”

deoarece cuvântul pe care el l-a rostit, potrivit poruncii Domnului, împotriva altarului care se află în Betel şi împotriva tuturor sanctuarelor de pe înălţimile care se găsesc în cetăţile Samariei, se va împlini.“

33 A fter this event Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but again he made priests from every class of people for the high places; whoever wished, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.

Ieroboam nu s-a întors de la calea lui cea rea nici după acest eveniment, ci a numit preoţi pentru înălţimi, luaţi din tot poporul. Cei doritori erau învestiţi de el ca preoţi pentru înălţimi.

34 A nd this thing was the sin of the house of Jeroboam, so as to exterminate and destroy it from the face of the earth.

Acesta a fost păcatul familiei lui Ieroboam, care a dus la ştergerea şi nimicirea ei de pe faţa pământului.
