1 M oreover Elihu answered and said:

Und es hob an Elihu und sprach:

2 “ Do you think this is right? Do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s’?

Achtest du das für Recht, daß du sprichst: "Ich bin gerechter denn Gott"?

3 F or you say, ‘What advantage will it be to You? What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?’

Denn du sprichst: "Wer gilt bei dir etwas? Was hilft es, ob ich nicht sündige?"

4 “ I will answer you, And your companions with you.

Ich will dir antworten ein Wort und deinen Freunden mit dir.

5 L ook to the heavens and see; And behold the clouds— They are higher than you.

Schaue gen Himmel und siehe; und schau an die Wolken, daß sie dir zu hoch sind.

6 I f you sin, what do you accomplish against Him? Or, if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to Him?

Sündigst du, was kannst du ihm Schaden? Und ob deiner Missetaten viel ist, was kannst du ihm tun?

7 I f you are righteous, what do you give Him? Or what does He receive from your hand?

Und ob du gerecht seist, was kannst du ihm geben, oder was wird er von deinen Händen nehmen?

8 Y our wickedness affects a man such as you, And your righteousness a son of man.

Einem Menschen, wie du bist, mag wohl etwas tun deine Bosheit, und einem Menschenkind deine Gerechtigkeit.

9 “ Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry out for help because of the arm of the mighty.

Man schreit, daß viel Gewalt geschieht, und ruft über den Arm der Großen;

10 B ut no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night,

aber man fragt nicht: "Wo ist Gott, mein Schöpfer, der Lobgesänge gibt in der Nacht,

11 W ho teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, And makes us wiser than the birds of heaven?’

der uns klüger macht denn das Vieh auf Erden und weiser denn die Vögel unter dem Himmel?"

12 T here they cry out, but He does not answer, Because of the pride of evil men.

Da schreien sie über den Hochmut der Bösen, und er wird sie nicht erhören.

13 S urely God will not listen to empty talk, Nor will the Almighty regard it.

Denn Gott wird das Eitle nicht erhören, und der Allmächtige wird es nicht ansehen.

14 A lthough you say you do not see Him, Yet justice is before Him, and you must wait for Him.

Nun sprichst du gar, du wirst ihn nicht sehen. Aber es ist ein Gericht vor ihm, harre sein nur!

15 A nd now, because He has not punished in His anger, Nor taken much notice of folly,

ob auch sein Zorn so bald nicht heimsucht und er sich's nicht annimmt, daß so viel Laster da sind.

16 T herefore Job opens his mouth in vain; He multiplies words without knowledge.”

Darum hat Hiob seinen Mund umsonst aufgesperrt und gibt stolzes Gerede vor mit Unverstand.
