1 N ow it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples,

Und es begab sich, da Jesus alle diese Reden vollendet hatte, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern:

2 “ You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”

Ihr wisset, daß nach zwei Tagen Ostern wird; und des Menschen Sohn wird überantwortet werden, daß er gekreuzigt werde.

3 T hen the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

Da versammelten sich die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten im Volk in den Palast des Hohenpriesters, der da hieß Kaiphas,

4 a nd plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him.

und hielten Rat, wie sie Jesus mit List griffen und töteten.

5 B ut they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.” The Anointing at Bethany

Sie sprachen aber: Ja nicht auf das Fest, auf daß nicht ein Aufruhr werde im Volk!

6 A nd when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper,

Da nun Jesus war zu Bethanien im Hause Simons, des Aussätzigen,

7 a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table.

da trat zu ihm ein Weib, das hatte ein Glas mit köstlichem Wasser und goß es auf sein Haupt, da er zu Tische saß.

8 B ut when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste?

Da das seine Jünger sahen, wurden sie unwillig und sprachen: Wozu diese Vergeudung?

9 F or this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”

Dieses Wasser hätte mögen teuer verkauft und den Armen gegeben werden.

10 B ut when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.

Da das Jesus merkte, sprach er zu ihnen: Was bekümmert ihr das Weib? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir getan.

11 F or you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always.

Ihr habt allezeit Arme bei euch; mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit.

12 F or in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial.

Daß sie dies Wasser hat auf meinen Leib gegossen, hat sie getan, daß sie mich zum Grabe bereite.

13 A ssuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.” Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

Wahrlich ich sage euch: Wo dies Evangelium gepredigt wird in der ganzen Welt, da wird man auch sagen zu ihrem Gedächtnis, was sie getan hat.

14 T hen one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests

Da ging hin der Zwölf einer, mit Namen Judas Ischariot, zu den Hohenpriestern

15 a nd said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.

und sprach: Was wollt ihr mir geben? Ich will ihn euch verraten. Und sie boten ihm dreißig Silberlinge.

16 S o from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him. Jesus Celebrates Passover with His Disciples

Und von dem an suchte er Gelegenheit, daß er ihn verriete.

17 N ow on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”

Aber am ersten Tag der süßen Brote traten die Jünger zu Jesus und sprachen zu ihm: Wo willst du, daß wir dir bereiten das Osterlamm zu essen?

18 A nd He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.”’”

Er sprach: Gehet hin in die Stadt zu einem und sprecht der Meister läßt dir sagen: Meine Zeit ist nahe; ich will bei dir Ostern halten mit meinen Jüngern.

19 S o the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.

Und die Jünger taten wie ihnen Jesus befohlen hatte, und bereiteten das Osterlamm.

20 W hen evening had come, He sat down with the twelve.

Und am Abend setzte er sich zu Tische mit den Zwölfen.

21 N ow as they were eating, He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.”

Und da sie aßen, sprach er: Wahrlich ich sage euch: Einer unter euch wird mich verraten.

22 A nd they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, “Lord, is it I?”

Und sie wurden sehr betrübt und hoben an, ein jeglicher unter ihnen, und sagten zu ihm: HERR, bin ich's?

23 H e answered and said, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray Me.

Er antwortete und sprach: Der mit der Hand mit mir in die Schüssel tauchte, der wird mich verraten.

24 T he Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”

Des Menschen Sohn geht zwar dahin, wie von ihm geschrieben steht; doch weh dem Menschen, durch welchen des Menschen Sohn verraten wird! Es wäre ihm besser, daß er nie geboren wäre.

25 T hen Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?” He said to him, “You have said it.” Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper

Da antwortete Judas, der ihn verriet, und sprach: Bin ich's Rabbi? Er sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es.

26 A nd as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”

Da sie aber aßen, nahm Jesus das Brot, dankte und brach's und gab's den Jüngern und sprach: Nehmet, esset; das ist mein Leib.

27 T hen He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.

Und er nahm den Kelch und dankte, gab ihnen den und sprach: Trinket alle daraus;

28 F or this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

das ist mein Blut des neuen Testaments, welches vergossen wird für viele zur Vergebung der Sünden.

29 B ut I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

Ich sage euch: Ich werde von nun an nicht mehr von diesen Gewächs des Weinstocks trinken bis an den Tag, da ich's neu trinken werde mit euch in meines Vaters Reich.

30 A nd when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

Und da sie den Lobgesang gesprochen hatte, gingen sie hinaus an den Ölberg.

31 T hen Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: In dieser Nacht werdet ihr euch alle ärgern an mir. Denn es steht geschrieben: "Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe der Herde werden sich zerstreuen."

32 B ut after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”

Wenn ich aber auferstehe, will ich vor euch hingehen nach Galiläa.

33 P eter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”

Petrus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn sich auch alle an dir ärgerten, so will ich doch mich nimmermehr ärgern.

34 J esus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich ich sage dir: In dieser Nacht, ehe der Hahn kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen.

35 P eter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And so said all the disciples. The Prayer in the Garden

Petrus sprach zu ihm: Und wenn ich mit dir sterben müßte, so will ich dich nicht verleugnen. Desgleichen sagten auch alle Jünger.

36 T hen Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”

Da kam Jesus mit ihnen zu einem Hofe, der hieß Gethsemane, und sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Setzet euch hier, bis daß ich dorthin gehe und bete.

37 A nd He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.

Und nahm zu sich Petrus und die zwei Söhne des Zebedäus und fing an zu trauern und zu zagen.

38 T hen He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist betrübt bis an den Tod; bleibet hier und wachet mit mir!

39 H e went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. ”

Und ging hin ein wenig, fiel nieder auf sein Angesicht und betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's möglich, so gehe dieser Kelch von mir; doch nicht, wie ich will, sondern wie du willst!

40 T hen He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?

Und er kam zu seinen Jüngern und fand sie schlafend und sprach zu Petrus: Könnet ihr denn nicht eine Stunde mit mir wachen?

41 W atch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Wachet und betet, daß ihr nicht in Anfechtung fallet! Der Geist ist willig; aber das Fleisch ist schwach.

42 A gain, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”

Zum andernmal ging er wieder hin, betete und sprach: Mein Vater, ist's nicht möglich, daß dieser Kelch von mir gehe, ich trinke ihn denn, so geschehe dein Wille!

43 A nd He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

Und er kam und fand sie abermals schlafend, und ihre Augen waren voll Schlafs.

44 S o He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

Und er ließ sie und ging abermals hin und betete zum drittenmal und redete dieselben Worte.

45 T hen He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Da kam er zu seinen Jüngern und sprach zu ihnen: Ach wollt ihr nur schlafen und ruhen? Siehe, die Stunde ist hier, daß des Menschen Sohn in der Sünder Hände überantwortet wird.

46 R ise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.” Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane

Stehet auf, laßt uns gehen! Siehe, er ist da, der mich verrät!

47 A nd while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Und als er noch redete, siehe, da kam Judas, der Zwölf einer, und mit ihm eine große Schar, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, von den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten des Volks.

48 N ow His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.”

Und der Verräter hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben und gesagt: Welchen ich küssen werde, der ist's; den greifet.

49 I mmediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.

Und alsbald trat er zu Jesus und sprach: Gegrüßet seist du, Rabbi! und küßte ihn.

50 B ut Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.

Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Mein Freund, warum bist du gekommen? Da traten sie hinzu und legten die Hände an Jesus und griffen ihn.

51 A nd suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

Und siehe, einer aus denen, die mit Jesus waren, reckte die Hand aus und zog sein Schwert aus und schlug des Hohenpriesters Knecht und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab.

52 B ut Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.

Da sprach Jesus zu ihm; Stecke dein Schwert an seinen Ort! denn wer das Schwert nimmt, der soll durchs Schwert umkommen.

53 O r do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?

Oder meinst du, daß ich nicht könnte meinen Vater bitten, daß er mir zuschickte mehr denn zwölf Legionen Engel?

54 H ow then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”

Wie würde aber die Schrift erfüllet? Es muß also gehen.

55 I n that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me.

Zu der Stunde sprach Jesus zu den Scharen: Ihr seid ausgegangen wie zu einem Mörder, mit Schwertern und Stangen, mich zu fangen. Bin ich doch täglich gesessen bei euch und habe gelehrt im Tempel, und ihr habt mich nicht gegriffen.

56 B ut all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled. Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin

Aber das ist alles geschehen, daß erfüllet würden die Schriften der Propheten. Da verließen ihn die Jünger und flohen.

57 A nd those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

Die aber Jesus gegriffen hatten, führten ihn zu dem Hohenpriester Kaiphas, dahin die Schriftgelehrten und Ältesten sich versammelt hatten.

58 B ut Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end.

Petrus aber folgte ihm nach von ferne bis in den Palast des Hohenpriesters und ging hinein und setzte sich zu den Knechten, auf daß er sähe, wo es hinaus wollte.

59 N ow the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,

Die Hohenpriester aber und die Ältesten und der ganze Rat suchten falsch Zeugnis gegen Jesus, auf daß sie ihn töteten,

60 b ut found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came forward

und fanden keins. Und wiewohl viel falsche Zeugen herzutraten, fanden sie doch keins. Zuletzt traten herzu zwei falsche Zeugen

61 a nd said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’”

und sprachen: Er hat gesagt: Ich kann den Tempel Gottes abbrechen und in drei Tagen ihn bauen.

62 A nd the high priest arose and said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?”

Und der Hohepriester stand auf und sprach zu ihm: Antwortest du nichts zu dem, was diese wider dich zeugen?

63 B ut Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!”

Aber Jesus schwieg still. Und der Hohepriester antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich bei dem lebendigen Gott, daß du uns sagest, ob du seist Christus, der Sohn Gottes.

64 J esus said to him, “ It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Jesus sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es. Doch ich sage euch: Von nun an wird's geschehen, daß ihr werdet sehen des Menschen Sohn sitzen zur Rechten der Kraft und kommen in den Wolken des Himmels.

65 T hen the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!

Da zerriß der Hohepriester seine Kleider und sprach: Er hat Gott gelästert! Was bedürfen wir weiteres Zeugnis? Siehe, jetzt habt ihr seine Gotteslästerung gehört.

66 W hat do you think?” They answered and said, “He is deserving of death.”

Was dünkt euch? Sie antworteten und sprachen: Er ist des Todes schuldig!

67 T hen they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands,

Da spieen sie aus in sein Angesicht und schlugen ihn mit Fäusten. Etliche aber schlugen ihn ins Angesicht

68 s aying, “Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?” Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps Bitterly

und sprachen: Weissage uns, Christe, wer ist's, der dich schlug?

69 N ow Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”

Petrus aber saß draußen im Hof; und es trat zu ihm eine Magd und sprach: Und du warst auch mit dem Jesus aus Galiläa.

70 B ut he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.”

Er leugnete aber vor ihnen allen und sprach: Ich weiß nicht, was du sagst.

71 A nd when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, “This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Als er aber zur Tür hinausging, sah ihn eine andere und sprach zu denen, die da waren: Dieser war auch mit dem Jesus von Nazareth.

72 B ut again he denied with an oath, “I do not know the Man!”

Und er leugnete abermals und schwur dazu: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht.

73 A nd a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, “Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you.”

Und über eine kleine Weile traten die hinzu, die dastanden, und sprachen zu Petrus: Wahrlich du bist auch einer von denen; denn deine Sprache verrät dich.

74 T hen he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.

Da hob er an sich zu verfluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne diesen Menschen nicht. Uns alsbald krähte der Hahn.

75 A nd Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.

Da dachte Petrus an die Worte Jesu, da er zu ihm sagte: "Ehe der Hahn krähen wird, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen", und ging hinaus und weinte bitterlich.
