1 – Есть рудник для серебра и для золота есть горн плавильный.

Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold where they refine it.

2 И з земли добывают железо, и плавят медь из руды.

Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted from the stone ore.

3 Т ьме рудокоп полагает предел. Ищет он в отдаленных пределах руду в непроглядной мгле.

Man sets an end to darkness, and he searches out the farthest bounds for the ore buried in gloom and deep darkness.

4 Д алеко от жилья он роет колодец, в местах, что забыла стопа человека; висит он и зыблется вдали от людей.

Men break open shafts away from where people sojourn, in places forgotten by foot; and, hanging afar from men, they swing or flit to and fro.

5 З емля, на которой вырастает пища, изнутри изрыта, будто огнем.

As for the earth, out of it comes bread, but underneath there is blasting, turning it up as by fire.

6 С апфиров россыпь в ее камнях, и в ней – золотой песок.

Its stones are the bed of sapphires; it holds dust of gold.

7 П ути к ним не знает хищная птица, соколиный глаз их не видел.

That path no bird of prey knows, and the falcon’s eye has not seen it.

8 Г ордые звери их не топтали, и лев по ним не ходил.

The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed over it.

9 Ч еловек на гранит простирает руку и с корнем вырывает горы.

Man puts forth his hand upon the flinty rock; he overturns the mountains by the roots.

10 О н прорубает проходы в скалах, и глаза его видят все их сокровища.

He cuts out channels and passages among the rocks; and his eye sees every precious thing.

11 О н останавливает истоки рек, и сокровенное выносит на свет.

binds the streams so that they do not trickle, and the thing that is hidden he brings forth to light.

12 Н о где можно найти мудрость? Где обитает разум?

But where shall Wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

13 Н е знает смертный ее дома; на земле живых ее не найти.

Man knows not the price of it; neither is it found in the land of the living.

14 П учина скажет: «Во мне ее нет»; и молвит море: «Не у меня она». Мудрость ценнее драгоценных камней

The deep says, is not in me; and the sea says, It is not with me.

15 Е е не купить за червонное золото, не отвесить цену ее серебром.

It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price of it.

16 Н е купить ее ни за золото Офира, ни за драгоценный оникс и сапфир.

It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in the precious onyx or beryl, or the sapphire.

17 Н е сравнить ее с золотом и кристаллом, на утварь из чистого золота не обменять.

Gold and glass cannot equal, nor can it be exchanged for jewels or vessels of fine gold.

18 Ч то говорить о кораллах и яшме; превыше рубинов стоимость мудрости.

No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; for the possession of Wisdom is even above rubies or pearls.

19 Н е сравнить с ней топазы из Куша; не купить ее за отменное золото.

The topaz of Ethiopia cannot compare with it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.

20 О ткуда приходит мудрость? Где обитает разум?

From where then does Wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding?

21 С крыта она от глаз всех живущих и от птиц небесных утаена.

It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and knowledge of it is withheld from the birds of the heavens.

22 П огибель и Смерть говорят: «Мы слышали только слух о ней». Только Бог знает пути мудрости

Abaddon (the place of destruction) and Death say, We have heard the report of it with our ears.

23 Т олько Богу ведом к ней путь, Он знает ее жилище,

God understands the way and He knows the place of it.

24 в едь Он озирает края земли и видит все, что под небесами.

For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.

25 К огда Он давал ветру силу и водам ставил пределы,

When He gave to the wind weight or pressure and allotted the waters by measure,

26 к огда Он дождю предписал устав и путь проложил для молний,

When He made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder,

27 О н увидел мудрость и восхвалил ее, утвердил ее, испытал

Then He saw and declared it; He established it, yes, and searched it out.

28 и сказал человеку так: «Воистину, страх Владыки – вот мудрость, сторониться зла – это разум».

But to man He said, Behold, the reverential and worshipful fear of the Lord—that is Wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
