1 В земле Уц жил человек по имени Иов. Этот человек был непорочен и праведен, жил в страхе перед Богом и сторонился зла.

There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and abstained from and shunned evil.

2 У него родилось семеро сыновей и три дочери.

And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters.

3 В о владении у него было семь тысяч овец, три тысячи верблюдов, пятьсот пар волов и пятьсот ослиц, а еще великое множество слуг. Он был славнее всех жителей Востока.

He possessed 7, 000 sheep, 3, 000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and a very great body of servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the East.

4 Е го сыновья сходились, чтобы пировать по очереди в домах друг у друга, и приглашали трех своих сестер, чтобы есть и пить вместе с ними.

His sons used to go and feast in the house of each on his day (birthday) in turn, and they invited their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

5 К огда время пиров истекало, Иов посылал за ними и освящал их. Рано утром он возносил за каждого из них всесожжение, думая: «Быть может, мои сыновья согрешили и оскорбили Бога в своем сердце». Так Иов поступал постоянно. Сатана клевещет на Иова

And when the days of their feasting were over, Job sent for them to purify and hallow them, and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed or disowned God in their hearts. Thus did Job at all times.

6 О днажды сыновья Божьи пришли, чтобы предстать перед Господом, и с ними пришел сатана.

Now there was a day when the sons (the angels) of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan (the adversary and accuser) also came among them.

7 Г осподь спросил сатану: – Откуда ты пришел? Сатана ответил Господу: – Я скитался по земле и обошел ее всю.

And the Lord said to Satan, From where did you come? Then Satan answered the Lord, From going to and fro on the earth and from walking up and down on it.

8 Г осподь сказал сатане: – Приметил ли ты Моего слугу Иова? Нет на земле такого человека, как он: непорочного и праведного, кто живет в страхе перед Богом и сторонится зла.

And the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and abstains from and shuns evil ?

9 – Разве даром Иов боится Бога? – ответил Господу сатана. –

Then Satan answered the Lord, Does Job fear God for nothing?

10 Р азве не Ты оградил его самого, его домашних и все его добро? Ты благословил дело его рук, и его стада и отары заполонили землю.

Have You not put a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have conferred prosperity and happiness upon him in the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.

11 Н о протяни руку и порази все, что у него есть, – и он проклянет Тебя прямо в лицо.

But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has, and he will curse You to Your face.

12 Г осподь сказал сатане: – Хорошо, все, что у него есть, в твоих руках, но на него самого руки не поднимай. И сатана ушел от Господа. Первое испытание Иова

And the Lord said to Satan (the adversary and the accuser), Behold, all that he has is in your power, only upon the man himself put not forth your hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.

13 О днажды, когда сыновья и дочери Иова пировали и пили вино в доме у старшего из братьев,

And there was a day when sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house,

14 к Иову пришел вестник и сказал:

And there came a messenger to Job and said, The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them,

15 – Волы пахали и ослицы паслись неподалеку, когда напали шевеяне и угнали их. Они предали слуг мечу, и я – единственный, кто спасся, чтобы рассказать тебе об этом!

And the Sabeans swooped down upon them and took away. Indeed, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.

16 О н еще говорил, когда пришел другой вестник и сказал: – Божий огонь пал с небес и сжег овец и слуг, и я – единственный, кто спасся, чтобы рассказать тебе об этом!

While he was yet speaking, there came also another and said, The fire of God (lightning) has fallen from the heavens and has burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.

17 О н еще говорил, когда пришел третий вестник и сказал: – Халдеи собрались в три отряда, набросились на стадо твоих верблюдов и угнали их. Они предали всех слуг мечу, и я – единственный, кто спасся, чтобы рассказать тебе об этом!

While he was yet speaking, there came also another and said, The Chaldeans divided into three bands and made a raid upon the camels and have taken them away, yes, and have slain the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.

18 О н еще говорил, когда пришел еще один вестник и сказал: – Твои сыновья и дочери пировали и пили вино в доме у старшего брата,

While he was yet speaking, there came also another and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house,

19 к ак вдруг страшный вихрь примчался из пустыни и пошатнул дом с четырех углов. Дом рухнул на них, и все они погибли, а я – единственный, кто спасся, чтобы рассказать тебе об этом. Иов славит Господа

And behold, there came a great from the desert, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.

20 Т огда Иов встал, разорвал на себе одежду и обрил голову. Он пал на землю, простерся ниц

Then Job arose and rent his robe and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshiped

21 и сказал: – Нагим я вышел из чрева матери, нагим из него и уйду. Господь даровал, Господь и отнял – да будет Имя Господне благословенно.

And said, Naked (without possessions) came I from my mother’s womb, and naked (without possessions) shall I depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed (praised and magnified in worship) be the name of the Lord!

22 В о всем этом Иов не согрешил и не обвинил Бога в несправедливости к нему.

In all this Job sinned not nor charged God foolishly.
