1 ¶ Watch thy feet when thou goest to the house of God and draw near with more willingness to hear than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know how to do what God wants.

Следи за своим поведением, когда идешь в дом Божий. Лучше прийти туда, чтобы слушать, нежели приносить необдуманную жертву, подобно глупцам, которые даже не знают, что творят зло.

2 D o not be rash with thy mouth and do not let thy heart be hasty to utter any thing before God, for God is in heaven and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.

Подумай, прежде чем что-то сказать, не торопись произнести слово перед Богом. Бог на небе, а ты на земле, так будь же немногословен.

3 F or out of much preoccupation comes the dream, and the voice of the fool out of a multitude of words.

И как снятся беспокойные сны при множестве забот, так и речь глупца рождается при множестве слов.

4 ¶ When thou dost vow a vow unto God, do not defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou hast vowed.

Когда даешь обет Богу, не замедли исполнить его. Ему не угодны глупцы; исполни то, что обещал.

5 I t is better that thou should not vow than that thou should vow and not pay.

Лучше не давать обещание, чем дать и не исполнить.

6 S uffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was ignorance. Why should thou cause God to be angry because of thy voice and destroy the work of thine hands?

Не позволяй устам своим ввести тебя в грех. И не говори посланнику: «Мое обещание было ошибкой». Зачем тебе, чтобы Бог прогневался на слова твои и уничтожил дело твоих рук?

7 B ecause dreams abound, and vanities and the words are many, but fear thou God.

Суета во множестве сноведений, как и в многословии, поэтому бойся Бога! Богатство – суетно

8 I f thou seest violence unto the poor and the extortion of rights and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter, for height is looking upon height; and there is one higher than they.

Если ты увидишь, что в какой-то местности притесняют бедного и не соблюдается правосудие и справедливость, то не удивляйся этому, потому что над одним правителем стоит другой, который наблюдает за ним, а над ними есть еще более высокое начальство.

9 ¶ And there is higher authority in all of the things of the earth, but he who serves the field is king.

Но все же лучше для страны, чтобы у нее был царь, заботящийся о земле.

10 H e that loves money shall not be satisfied with money; nor he that loves abundance with increase; this is also vanity.

Кто любит деньги, тому их никогда не хватает, и кто любит богатство, никогда не будет доволен своим доходом. И это тоже суета.

11 W hen goods increase, those that eat them are increased; and what good is there to the owners thereof, except the beholding of them with their eyes?

Когда увеличивается имущество, увеличивается и число нахлебников. В чем польза его владельцу, кроме как смотреть на него?

12 T he sleep of the servant is sweet whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

Сон работника – сладок, много ли он съел или мало. Но объевшийся богач все ворочается в своей кровати.

13 T here is another sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt;

И видел я ужасное зло под солнцем: человек зря копил богатство –

14 w hich are lost by evil pursuits and to the sons which he has begotten; there is nothing left in his hand.

оно было потеряно из-за неудачной сделки, а теперь ему нечего оставить своему сыну.

15 A s he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

Нагим человек приходит из утробы матери, и каким он пришел, таким и уходит. Он ничего не возьмет от труда своего, не унесет с собой и горсти.

16 A nd this also is a sore evil; that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit has he that has laboured for the wind?

И это тоже ужасное зло: каким человек пришел, таким и уходит, и какая польза ему, что он трудится на ветер?

17 I n addition to this, all the days of his life he shall eat in darkness, with much wrath and pain and sorrow sickness.

Все дни его жизни проходят во тьме, в большом разочаровании, огорчении и гневе.

18 ¶ Behold therefore the good which I have seen: that good is to eat and to drink and to enjoy of the good of all his labour that he takes under the sun all the days of his life, which God gives him; for it is his portion.

Затем я понял, что хорошо и правильно для человека есть и пить, и находить наслаждение в труде своем под солнцем в течение немногих дней жизни, что дал ему Бог, ведь такова его доля.

19 L ikewise, unto every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, he has also given him power to eat thereof and to take his portion and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

Более того, если Бог дает кому-либо богатство, имущество и возможность пользоваться ими, получить свою долю и наслаждаться своим трудом, то это дар Божий.

20 T o such a one, God will remove the concerns common to others, for God shall answer him with joy from his heart.

Редко такой человек размышляет о своей жизни, потому что Бог наполняет радостью сердце его.
