1 ¶ And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hands of the Ishmeelites, who had brought him down there.

Иосифа привели в Египет, и египтянин Потифар, сановник фараона и начальник его стражи, купил Иосифа у измаильтян, которые его туда привели.

2 B ut the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prospered man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

Господь был с Иосифом, и он преуспевал, живя в доме у своего египетского господина.

3 A nd his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

Его господин увидел, что Господь с Иосифом и что Он дает ему успех во всем, что он делает.

4 S o Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

Иосиф нашел расположение в его глазах и стал его личным слугой. Потифар поставил его над своим домом и доверил ему все свои владения.

5 A nd it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

И с тех пор, как он поставил его над своим домом и всеми владениями, Господь благословил дом египтянина ради Иосифа. Благословение Господа было на всем, что было у Потифара, – и в доме, и в поле.

6 A nd he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and with him knew of nothing more than of the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome and well favoured.

Поэтому он доверил Иосифу все, что у него было; благодаря Иосифу он мог ни о чем не заботиться, кроме того, чтобы поесть. Иосиф же был хорошо сложен и красив,

7 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

и через некоторое время жена его господина стала заглядываться на него и сказала: – Ложись со мной!

8 B ut he refused and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand;

Но он отказался, сказав: – При мне мой господин может ни о чем не заботиться в доме; все, чем он владеет, он доверил мне.

9 t here is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but thee because thou art his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?

В этом доме я самый главный; мой господин не отказал мне ни в чем, кроме тебя, потому что ты – его жена. Как же я могу совершить такое великое зло и грех против Бога?

10 A nd it came to pass as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not hearken unto her, to lie by her or to be with her.

И хотя она уговаривала его каждый день, он отказывался лечь с ней и даже быть с ней.

11 A nd it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business, and none of those of the house were there within.

Однажды он вошел в дом по своим делам, когда никого из домашних не было в доме.

12 A nd she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me; and he left his garment in her hand and fled and got outside.

Она схватила его за одежду и сказала: – Ложись со мной! Но он вырвался и убежал, оставив верхнюю одежду у нее в руках.

13 ¶ And it came to pass when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled forth,

Увидев, что он убежал и оставил одежду у нее в руках,

14 t hat she called unto those of her house and spoke unto them, saying, See, he has brought in a Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice;

она позвала домашнюю прислугу и сказала им: – Смотрите, этого еврея привели к нам в дом, а он оскорбляет нас! Он пришел сюда и хотел лечь со мной, но я стала кричать,

15 a nd it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me and fled and left.

а он от моего крика оставил свою одежду и убежал.

16 A nd she laid up his garment by her until his lord came home.

Она держала одежду Иосифа у себя, пока не пришел домой его хозяин.

17 A nd she spoke unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew slave, whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to dishonour me;

Она рассказала ему ту же историю: – Этот раб-еврей, которого ты к нам привел, пришел ко мне и хотел надо мной надругаться,

18 a nd when I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me and fled out.

но я стала кричать, и он, оставив у меня свою одежду, убежал. Заключение Иосифа в темницу

19 ¶ And it came to pass when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke unto him, saying, After this manner did thy slave treat me, that his wrath was kindled.

Когда его господин выслушал рассказ жены, которая сказала: «Вот как твой раб обошелся со мной», – он сильно разгневался:

20 A nd Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound; and he was there in the prison.

он взял Иосифа и посадил его в темницу, где были заключены царские узники; и так Иосиф оказался в темнице.

21 B ut the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy and gave him grace in the sight of the prince of the house of the prison.

Но Господь был с ним; Он явил ему милость и даровал ему расположение в глазах главного стража.

22 A nd the prince of the house of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatever they did there, he was the doer of it.

Главный страж поставил Иосифа над всеми узниками, и он отвечал за все дела в темнице.

23 T he prince of the prison looked not to anything that was under his hand because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

Главный страж мог не заботиться о том, что было вверено Иосифу, потому что Господь был с Иосифом и давал ему успех во всех делах.
