1 ¶ Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a son of Jemini, a mighty man of power.

Был некий знатный человек из рода Вениамина, которого звали Киш, сын Авиила, сына Церора. Церор был сыном Бехората. Бехорат был сыном Афиаха, вениамитянин.

2 A nd he had a son, whose name was Saul, a handsome young man. Among the sons of Israel there was not a nicer person than he; from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.

У Киша был сын, которого звали Саул, красивый юноша − красивее его не было среди израильтян, − он был на голову выше ростом всех своих соплеменников.

3 ¶ And the she asses of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to Saul, his son, Take now one of the slaves with thee, and arise, go seek the asses.

Однажды у Киша, отца Саула, пропали ослицы, и Киш сказал сыну: − Возьми с собой одного из слуг и пойди, поищи ослиц.

4 A nd he passed through Mount Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shalim, and they were not there, and he passed through the land of Jemini, but they did not find them.

Он прошел через нагорья Ефрема и через землю Шалишу, но не нашли их. Они прошли через землю Шаалим, но ослиц и там не было. Затем прошли через землю Вениамина, но не нашли их.

5 A nd when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses and take thought for us.

Когда они добрались до земли Цуф, Саул сказал слуге, который был с ним: − Давай пойдем назад, иначе мой отец перестанет думать об ослицах и начнет беспокоиться о нас.

6 A nd he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass; now let us go there; peradventure he can show us our way that we should go.

Но слуга сказал: − Послушай, в этом городе есть Божий человек. Он пользуется большим уважением, и все, что он говорит, сбывается. Давай сходим туда. Может быть, он укажет нам путь.

7 T hen Saul replied unto his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and we have nothing to present unto the man of God. What do we have?

Саул сказал слуге: − Если мы пойдем, то что же мы дадим этому человеку? Еда в наших мешках кончилась. У нас нет подарка, чтобы принести Божьему человеку. Что у нас есть?

8 A nd the servant answered Saul again and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver; this will I give to the man of God to tell us our way.

Слуга вновь ответил ему: − Послушай, у меня есть четверть шекеля серебра. Я дам его Божьему человеку, и он укажет нам путь.

9 ( Beforetime in Israel when anyone went to enquire of God, he spoke thus, Come, and let us go to the seer, for he that is now called a Prophet was called a Seer before.)

(Прежде в Израиле, если человек шел вопросить Бога, он говорил: «Пойдем к провидцу», − потому что тот, кого сегодня называют пророком, прежде назывался провидцем.)

10 T hen Saul said to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.

− Хорошо, − сказал слуге Саул. − Пойдем. И они направились в город, где был Божий человек.

11 ¶ And as they went up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water and said unto them, Is the seer here?

Поднимаясь в город на холм, они встретили девушек, которые шли за водой, и спросили их: − Есть здесь провидец?

12 A nd they answered them and said, He is; behold, he is before you; make haste now, for he came today to the city, for there is a sacrifice of the people today in the high place.

– Есть, − ответили те. − Он впереди тебя. Поторопись, он только что пришел в город, потому что у народа сегодня жертвоприношение в святилище на возвышенности.

13 A s soon as you are come into the city, ye shall straightway find him before he goes up to the high place to eat, for the people will not eat until he comes because he must bless the sacrifice, and afterwards those that are invited eat. Now therefore go up, for about this time ye shall find him.

Когда войдете в город, вы найдете его прежде, чем он поднимется поесть в святилище. Народ не начнет есть до его прихода, потому что он должен благословить жертву; после этого приглашенные примутся за еду. Идите, вы еще можете застать его.

14 A nd they went up into the city. And when they were come into the city, behold, Samuel came out before them to go up to the high place.

Они поднялись в город, и навстречу им вышел Самуил, направлявшийся в святилище на возвышенности.

15 N ow the LORD had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying,

(А за день до прихода Саула Господь открыл Самуилу:

16 T omorrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be prince over my people Israel that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines, for I have looked upon my people because their cry is come unto me.

«Завтра, приблизительно в это время, Я пошлю тебе человека из земли Вениамина. Помажь его в вожди над Моим народом Израиля. Он избавит Мой народ от руки филистимлян. Я взглянул на Мой народ, потому что его крик достиг Моего слуха».)

17 A nd when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spoke to thee of! This same shall reign over my people.

Когда Самуил увидел Саула, Господь сказал ему: − Это тот человек, о котором Я тебе говорил. Он будет править Моим народом.

18 ¶ Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer’s house is.

Саул подошел к Самуилу возле ворот и спросил: − Пожалуйста, скажи мне, где дом провидца?

19 A nd Samuel answered Saul and said, I am the seer; go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me today, and tomorrow I will let thee go and will tell thee all that is in thy heart.

− Провидец − это я, − ответил Самуил. − Поднимайся к святилищу впереди меня, потому что сегодня ты будешь есть со мной, а утром я отпущу тебя и скажу все, что у тебя на сердце.

20 A nd as for thine asses that were lost three days ago, take no care for them, for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee and on all thy father’s house?

А что до ослиц, которых ты потерял три дня назад, то не беспокойся о них; они уже нашлись. К кому же и обращено все желание Израиля, если не к тебе и всей семье твоего отца?!

21 A nd Saul answered and said, Peradventure am I not of Jemini, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And is my family not the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why, therefore, dost thou speak so to me?

− Но разве я не из Вениамина, наименьшего рода в Израиле, − ответил Саул, − и разве мой клан не последний среди всех кланов рода Вениамина? К чему же ты говоришь мне такое?

22 A nd Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the banquet chamber and made them sit at the head among those that were invited, which were about thirty persons.

Самуил провел Саула и его слугу в комнату и усадил их во главе приглашенных, которых было около тридцати человек.

23 A nd Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it aside.

Самуил сказал повару: − Принеси кусок мяса, который я отдал тебе и велел отложить.

24 A nd the cook took up the shoulder and that which was upon it and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which was reserved! Set it before thee and eat because for this time it has been kept for thee, since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul ate with Samuel that day.

Повар принес бедро и что было при нем и положил перед Саулом. Самуил сказал: − Вот то, что сберегалось для тебя. Ешь, это было специально отложено тебе, чтобы ты поел вместе с гостями. И Саул обедал с Самуилом в тот день.

25 A nd when they were come down from the high place into the city, he spoke with Saul upon the top of the house.

После того как они спустились из святилища в город, он говорил с Саулом на крыше своего дома.

26 A nd they arose early about dawn, and Samuel called Saul, who was on the top of the house, saying, Rise up that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.

Они встали рано и на заре Самуил крикнул Саулу, находящемуся на крыше: − Собирайся, я провожу тебя в путь. Саул собрался и вместе с Самуилом вышел из дома.

27 A nd as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us (and he passed on), but stand thou still a while that I may declare thee the word of God.

Пока они спускались к окраине города, Самуил сказал Саулу: − Скажи слуге, чтобы он пошел впереди нас, – и тот пошел вперед, – но сам стой здесь, я открою тебе, что сказал Бог.
