1 ¶ Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days.

Пускай хлеб свой по воде, ведь после многих дней ты вновь найдешь его.

2 G ive a portion to seven and even to eight, for thou dost not know what evil shall come upon the earth.

Раздели то, что ты имеешь, на семь или даже восемь частей, потому что не знаешь, какая беда может случиться в стране.

3 I f the clouds are full of rain, they shall empty themselves upon the earth; and if the tree falls toward the south or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall remain.

Если тучи полны воды, то они прольют дождь на землю. Если дерево упадет на юг или на север, то куда оно упадет, там и останется.

4 H e that observes the wind shall not sow, and he that regards the clouds shall not reap.

Кто наблюдает за ветром, никогда не посеет, и кто смотрит на облака, никогда не пожнет.

5 A s thou dost not know what is the way of the spirit nor how the bones grow in the womb of her that is with child, even so thou dost not know the works of God who makes all.

Как не знаешь путей ветра и того, как ребенок формируется в утробе матери, так же не можешь постигнуть дел Бога, Создателя всего.

6 I n the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand; for thou knowest not which shall prosper, either this or that or whether they both shall be equally good.

Сей семена утром, и вечером не давай отдыха своим рукам, потому что ты не знаешь, то или другое будет удачнее, или и то, и другое будет одинаково хорошо. Наслаждайся жизнью, но помни своего Создателя

7 ¶ Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun,

Сладок свет, и приятно для глаз видеть солнце.

8 b ut if a man lives many years and rejoices in them all; yet if afterwards he remembers the days of darkness, for they shall be many, he shall say that everything that shall have happened to him is vanity.

Сколько бы лет ни жил человек, пусть всегда веселится. Но пусть помнит о днях тьмы, ведь их будет много. Все, что будет – суета.

9 R ejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth and walk in the ways of thine heart and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

Веселись, юноша, пока молодой, пусть твое сердце радуется в дни юности твоей. Следуй влечению сердца твоего и желанию глаз твоих, но знай, что за все это Бог приведет тебя на суд.

10 T herefore remove sorrow from thy heart and put away evil from thy flesh; for childhood and youth are vanity.

Итак, гони беспокойство из сердца твоего и удаляй страдание от тела твоего, потому что детство и юность – суета.
