1 ¶ Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

2 t o Timothy, dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace of God the Father and of Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with a pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day,

Я благодарю Бога, Которому служу с чистой совестью, как это делали и мои праотцы, когда вспоминаю о тебе в своих молитвах, которые я совершаю день и ночь.

4 g reatly desiring to see thee (being mindful of thy tears), that I may be filled with joy,

5 w hen I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois and thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Я вспоминаю и о твоей искренней вере: так верили и твоя бабушка Лоида, и твоя мать Эвника, и убежден, что эта же вера живет и в тебе.

6 ¶ Therefore I admonish thee that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

По этой причине раздуй пламя твоего дара, который ты получил от Бога через возложение моих рук.

7 F or God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of strength and of love and of temperance.

Ведь Бог дал нам не дух страха, а дух силы, любви и благоразумия.

8 T herefore be not thou ashamed to give testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel by the power of God,

Поэтому не бойся говорить о нашем Господе и не стыдись того, что я нахожусь в заключении за Него. Наоборот, раздели со мной страдания за Радостную Весть, положившись на силу Божью.

9 w ho has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the times of the ages,

Бог спас нас и призвал нас Своим святым призывом не по нашим заслугам, но для исполнения Своей цели и по Своей благодати, данной нам через Иисуса Христа еще до начала времен.

10 b ut is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and has brought life and incorruption to light through the gospel,

И теперь мы увидели эту благодать, когда пришел Спаситель наш Иисус Христос, Который уничтожил смерть и через Радостную Весть показал новую жизнь и бессмертие.

11 u nto which I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles.

И я был поставлен глашатаем, апостолом и учителем этой Радостной Вести.

12 F or which cause I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

За это я и страдаю сейчас, но не стыжусь этого, потому что знаю, в Кого я поверил, и знаю, что Он способен сохранить то, что я доверил Ему до того Дня.

13 H old fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and charity which is in Christ Jesus.

Пусть образцом правильного учения будет для тебя то, что ты услышал от меня. Живи с верой и любовью, которая в Иисусе Христе.

14 K eep the good deposit committed unto thee by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us.

Пусть Святой Дух, живущий в нас, поможет тебе сберечь то доброе, что было тебе доверено.

15 ¶ This, thou knowest, that all those who are in Asia are turned away from me, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Все в провинции Азия оставили меня, включая Фигела и Гермогена; тебе это известно.

16 T he Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain;

Пусть Господь проявит милость к дому Онисифора, ведь он так часто ободрял меня, не стыдясь того, что я нахожусь в цепях.

17 f or when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently and found me.

Напротив, когда он был в Риме, то старательно разыскивал меня и нашел.

18 T he Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day; and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Пусть же Господь помилует его в тот День. А как много он помог мне в Эфесе, ты хорошо знаешь.
