1 ¶ Now these are the Gentiles which the LORD left, to prove Israel with them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

3 n amely, five cardinals of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites that dwelt in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baalhermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

4 T hese, therefore, were left to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 A nd as the sons of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites,

6 t hey took their daughters to be their wives and gave their daughters to their sons and served their gods.

7 A nd the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD and forgot the LORD their God and served the Baalim and the groves.

Израильтяне совершили зло в глазах Господа: они забыли Господа, своего Бога, и служили Баалам и Ашерам.

8 ¶ Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia, and the sons of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

Гнев Господа вспыхнул на Израиль, и Он отдал их в руки Кушан-Ришатаима, царя Арам-Нахараима, и служили ему израильтяне восемь лет.

9 A nd when the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a saviour to the sons of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.

Но когда они воззвали к Господу, Он дал им избавителя, Отниила, сына Кеназа, младшего брата Халева, который спас их.

10 A nd the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel and went out to war; and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand, and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

Дух Господа сошел на него, он стал судьей Израиля и отправился воевать. Господь отдал Кушан-Ришатаима, царя Арама, в руки Отниила, который одержал над ним победу.

11 A nd the land had rest forty years. And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, died.

И земля покоилась в мире сорок лет, пока Отниил, сын Кеназа, не умер. Ехуд

12 ¶ And the sons of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD strengthened Eglon, the king of Moab, against Israel because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

Израильтяне вновь совершили зло в глазах Господа, и из-за этого Господь сделал Эглона, царя Моава, сильнее Израиля.

13 A nd he gathered unto him the sons of Ammon and of Amalek and went and smote Israel and took the city of palm trees.

В союзе с аммонитянами и аморреями Эглон нанес Израилю поражение и завладел городом Пальм.

14 S o the sons of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

Израильтяне служили Эглону, царю Моава, восемнадцать лет.

15 B ut when the sons of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a saviour, Ehud, the son of Gera, a son of Jemini, a man, who had his right hand impeded, and by him the sons of Israel sent a present unto Eglon, the king of Moab.

Израильтяне вновь воззвали к Господу, и Он дал им избавителя – Ехуда, левшу, сына вениамитянина Геры. Израильтяне послали его с данью к Эглону, царю Моава.

16 B ut Ehud had made himself a two-edged sword of a cubit length, and he girded it under his clothing upon his right thigh.

Ехуд сделал обоюдоострый меч, длиной в локоть, и укрепил его под одеждой у правого бедра.

17 A nd he brought the present unto Eglon, king of Moab, and Eglon was a very fat man.

Затем он принес дань Эглону, царю Моава, который был очень тучен.

18 A nd when he had offered the present, he sent away the people that had brought the present.

После того как Ехуд поднес дань, он отпустил людей, которые ее несли.

19 B ut he, himself turned again from the graven images that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret word for thee, O king, who then said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.

Но сам он повернул назад у идолов, что близ Гилгала, и сказал: – О царь, у меня есть для тебя тайная весть. Царь сказал: – Тише! – и все его слуги удалились.

20 A nd Ehud came unto him, and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a word from God unto thee. Then he arose out of his seat.

Ехуд приблизился к нему (а тот сидел один в верхней комнате своего летнего дворца) и сказал: – У меня для тебя весть от Бога. Когда царь поднялся,

21 B ut Ehud put forth his left hand and took the sword from his right thigh and thrust it into Eglon’s belly;

Ехуд протянул левую руку, выхватил меч, который был у него на правом бедре, и вонзил царю в живот.

22 i n such a manner that the haft also went in after the blade, and the fat closed upon the blade so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly, and the excrement came out.

Даже рукоять ушла вслед за лезвием, и жир закрыл весь меч. Ехуд не вытащил меча, и нечистоты вышли из тела царя.

23 T hen Ehud went forth through the porch and shut the doors of the parlour upon him and locked them.

Выйдя в переднюю, Ехуд закрыл за собой двери верхней комнаты и запер их.

24 W hen he was gone out, his slaves came; and when they saw that the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Peradventure he covers his feet in his summer chamber.

Когда он ушел, слуги обнаружили двери верхней комнаты запертыми. Они сказали: – Должно быть, он справляет нужду во внутренней комнате дома.

25 A nd having waited until they were confounded and he had not opened the doors of the parlour; therefore, they took a key and opened them; and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.

Они ждали, пока не начали беспокоиться, и, видя, что никто не отпирает дверей комнаты, взяли ключ и отперли их. Там они увидели, что их господин лежит на полу мертвый.

26 B ut while they had waited, Ehud escaped and passed beyond the graven images and escaped unto Seirath.

Пока они медлили, Ехуд скрылся. Он прошел мимо идолов и спасся в Сеире.

27 A nd as he entered in, he blew the shofar in the mountain of Ephraim, and the sons of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

Придя туда, он затрубил в рог в нагорьях Ефрема, и израильтяне спустились вместе с ним с нагорий; он возглавлял их.

28 T hen he said unto them, Follow after me, for the LORD has delivered your enemies, the Moabites, into your hands. And they went down after him and took the fords of the Jordan towards Moab and did not let anyone pass.

– Идите за мной, – приказал он, – потому что Господь отдал моавитян, ваших врагов, в ваши руки. И они пошли за ним, захватили броды у Иордана, которые вели к Моаву, и не позволяли никому переправляться.

29 A nd they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all fat, and all men of war, and there escaped not a man.

Они сразили около десяти тысяч моавитян, всех сильных, крепких воинов; скрыться не удалось никому.

30 S o Moab was subjected that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest eighty years.

В тот день Моав стал служить Израилю, и земля покоилась в мире восемьдесят лет. Шамгар

31 ¶ And after him was Shamgar, the son of Anath, who slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad, and he also saved Israel.

После Ехуда пришел Шамгар, сын Анафа, который сразил шестьсот филистимлян воловьим рожном, пастушьей тростью. Он также спас Израиль.
