1 T hen Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars here for me. And make ready seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

Валаам сказал Валаку: – Построй мне здесь семь жертвенников и приготовь семь быков и семь баранов.

2 B alak did as Balaam had said. Balak and Balaam gave a bull and a ram on each altar in worship.

Валак сделал, как сказал Валаам, и они вдвоем принесли на каждом жертвеннике по быку и барану.

3 T hen Balaam said to Balak, “Stand beside your burnt gift, and I will go. It might be that the Lord will come to me. And whatever He shows me I will tell you.” So he went up to a hill without trees.

Валаам сказал Валаку: – Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, а я отойду в сторону. Может быть, Господь придет, чтобы встретиться со мной. Все, что Он мне откроет, я расскажу тебе. И он ушел на голую вершину.

4 G od met Balaam. Balaam said to Him, “I have made seven altars. And I have given a bull and a ram on each altar in worship.”

Бог встретился с ним, и Валаам сказал: – Я приготовил семь жертвенников и на каждом принес быка и барана.

5 T hen the Lord put words in Balaam’s mouth, and said, “Return to Balak. This is what you should say.”

Господь научил Валаама, что сказать, и велел: – Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.

6 S o Balaam returned to Balak, and saw him and all the leaders of Moab standing beside his burnt gift.

Он вернулся к нему и нашел его стоящим возле своих всесожжений со всеми вождями Моава.

7 B alaam began speaking and said, “Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east. ‘Come, curse Jacob for me,’ he said. ‘Come, say that Israel should be punished!’

И Валаам произнес пророчество: – Из Арама привел меня Валак, царь Моава – от гор восточных: «Приди, прокляни мне Иакова; приди, обреки Израиль на погибель».

8 H ow can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I say that those should be punished whom God has not said should be punished?

Как мне проклясть тех, кого Бог не проклял? Как на гибель обречь тех, кого Бог не обрек?

9 I see Israel from the top of the rocks. I look at them from the hills. See, the people live apart. They will not be thought of as one of the nations.

Со скальных вершин я на них смотрю, с холмов я на них взираю. Вижу народ, который отдельно живет и одним из народов себя не числит.

10 W ho can number the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of those who are right and good. Let my end be like theirs!”

Кто сочтет потомков Иакова – их столько, сколько пылинок на земле, – или четвертую часть Израиля? Пусть я умру смертью праведных, и пусть будет кончина моя, как у них!

11 B alak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I took you to curse those who hate me. But see, you have asked that good would come to them!”

Валак сказал Валааму: – Что ты со мной сделал? Я привел тебя проклясть моих врагов, а ты их благословляешь!

12 B alaam answered, “Must I not be careful to speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?” Balaam Tells What Will Happen the Second Time

Он ответил: – Разве я не должен говорить то, что мне велит Господь? Второе пророчество Валаама

13 B alak said to him, “I beg you, come with me to another place from where you will see them. But you will only see a part of them and not all of them. Curse them for me from there.”

Тогда Валак сказал ему: – Пойдем со мной в другое место, откуда ты сможешь их увидеть. Там ты увидишь только некоторых, не всех. Тогда прокляни их для меня оттуда.

14 S o he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah. He built seven altars and gave a bull and a ram on each altar.

Он отвел его на поле Цофим на вершине Фасги, построил там семь жертвенников и принес на каждом быка и барана.

15 B alaam said to Balak, “Stand here beside your burnt gift, while I meet the Lord over there.”

Валаам сказал Валаку: – Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, пока я там встречусь с Ним.

16 T he Lord met Balaam and put words in his mouth and said, “Return to Balak. This is what you should say.”

Господь встретился с Валаамом, научил его, что сказать, и велел: – Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.

17 S o he returned to Balak, and saw him and all the leaders of Moab standing beside his burnt gift. Balak said to him, “What has the Lord said?”

Он пошел к нему и нашел его стоящим возле своих всесожжений с вождями Моава. Валак спросил его: – Что сказал Господь?

18 T hen Balaam began speaking and said, “Rise, O Balak, and hear! Listen to me, O son of Zippor!

Тогда Валаам произнес пророчество: – Валак, соберись и слушай; сын Циппора, внимай мне.

19 G od is not a man, that He should lie. He is not a son of man, that He should be sorry for what He has said. Has He said, and will He not do it? Has He spoken, and will He not keep His Word?

Бог − не человек, чтобы лгать, и не смертный, чтобы передумывать. Неужели скажет Он и не сделает, пообещает и не исполнит?

20 S ee, I have been told to speak good of Israel. When He has spoken good of them, I cannot change it.

Я получил повеление благословлять; благословляет Он – я не могу отменить.

21 N o hard times are seen in Jacob. No trouble is seen in Israel. The Lord their God is with them. And the cry of a king is among them.

Не видно несчастья в Иакове, не заметно беды в Израиле. С ними Господь, их Бог, провозглашенный ими Царем.

22 G od brings them out of Egypt. He is for them like the horns of the wild bull.

Из Египта их вывел Бог; сила их – сила дикого быка.

23 F or there is no special thing that has been shown against Jacob. Nothing has told of a bad future for Israel. Now it will be said of Jacob and Israel, ‘Look what God has done!’

Нет колдовства на Иакова, нет ворожбы на Израиля. Станут теперь говорить об Иакове и об Израиле: «Вот что Бог сотворил!»

24 S ee, people rise like a female lion. It lifts itself like a lion. It will not lie down until it eats the food it has killed, and drinks the blood of the kill.”

Как львица встает народ; как лев поднимается! Не успокоится он, пока не пожрет добычу и кровью жертв не напьется.

25 B alak said to Balaam, “Do not curse them at all or pray that good would come to them!”

Тогда Валак сказал Валааму: – Не проклинай их и не благословляй!

26 B ut Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not tell you that I must do whatever the Lord says?” Balaam Tells What Will Happen the Third Time

Валаам ответил: – Разве я не говорил тебе, что должен делать все, что скажет Господь? Третье пророчество Валаама

27 T hen Balak said to Balaam, “I beg you, come. I will take you to another place. It might be that God will be pleased to have you curse them for me from there.”

Тогда Валак сказал Валааму: – Пойдем, я отведу тебя в другое место. Может быть, Богу будет угодно дать тебе проклясть их мне оттуда.

28 S o Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor which looks over the desert.

Валак отвел Валаама на вершину Пеора, обращенную к пустыне.

29 B alaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars for me here. And make ready seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

Валаам сказал Валаку: – Построй мне здесь семь жертвенников и приготовь семь быков и семь баранов.

30 B alak did just as Balaam had said. He gave a bull and a ram on each altar in worship.

Валак сделал, как сказал Валаам, и принес на каждом жертвеннике быка и барана.
