1 С ине мой, ако си станал поръчител за ближния си или си дал ръка за някой чужд,

My son, if you have become security for your neighbor, if you have given your pledge for a stranger or another,

2 т и си се впримчил с думите на устата си, хванат си с думите на устата си.

You are snared with the words of your lips, you are caught by the speech of your mouth.

3 З атова, сине мой, направи следното и се отърви, тъй като си паднал в ръцете на ближния си: иди, падни при краката на ближния си и го моли настоятелно.

Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself when you have put yourself into the power of your neighbor; go, bestir and humble yourself, and beg your neighbor.

4 Н е давай сън на очите си, нито дрямка на клепачите си,

Give not sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids;

5 д окато не се отървеш - като сърна от ръката на ловеца и като птица от ръката на птицеловец.

Deliver yourself, as a roe or gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6 И ди при мравката, о, ленивецо, размишлявай за постъпките ѝ и бъди мъдър -

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways and be wise!—

7 к оято, макар че няма началник, надзирател или управител,

Which, having no chief, overseer, or ruler,

8 п риготвя си храната лете, събира яденето си по жътва.

Provides her food in the summer and gathers her supplies in the harvest.

9 Д окога ще спиш, ленивецо? Кога ще станеш от съня си?

How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

10 О ще малко спане, малко дрямка, малко сгъване на ръце за сън,

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down and sleep—

11 т ака ще връхлети сиромашия върху тебе - като разбойник, и немотия - като въоръжен мъж.

So will your poverty come like a robber or one who travels and your want like an armed man.

12 Ч овек нехранимайко, човек беззаконен е онзи, който ходи с извратени уста.

A worthless person, a wicked man, is he who goes about with a perverse (contrary, wayward) mouth.

13 Н амигва с очите си, говори с краката си, дава знак с пръстите си;

He winks with his eyes, he speaks by shuffling or tapping with his feet, he makes signs and teaches with his fingers.

14 к ойто има извратено сърце, непрестанно крои зло, сее раздори,

Willful and contrary in his heart, he devises trouble, vexation, and evil continually; he lets loose discord and sows it.

15 з атова гибелта му ще дойде внезапно; изведнъж ще бъде съсипан, и то непоправимо.

Therefore upon him shall the crushing weight of calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken, and that without remedy.

16 Ш ест неща мрази Господ, даже седем са мерзост за душата Му:

These six things the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him:

17 н адменни очи, лъжлив език, ръце, които проливат невинна кръв,

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 с ърце, което крои лоши замисли, крака, които тичат бързо да вършат зло,

A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, feet that are swift in running to evil,

19 н еверен свидетел, който говори лъжа, и онзи, който сее раздори между братя. Предпазване от прелюбодеяние

A false witness who breathes out lies, and he who sows discord among his brethren.

20 С ине мой, пази заповедта на баща си и не се отклонявай от наставлението на майка си -

My son, keep your father’s commandment and forsake not the law of your mother.

21 з авържи ги завинаги за сърцето си, увий ги около шията си.

Bind them continually upon your heart and tie them about your neck.

22 К огато ходиш, наставлението ще те води; когато спиш, ще те пази; когато се събудиш, ще разговаря с тебе.

When you go, they shall lead you; when you sleep, they shall keep you; and when you waken, they shall talk with you.

23 З ащото заповедта им е светилник и наставлението им е светлина, и поучителните им изобличения са път към живот.

For the commandment is a lamp, and the whole teaching is light, and reproofs of discipline are the way of life,

24 З а да те пазят от лоша жена, от ласкателния език на чужда жена.

To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a loose woman.

25 Д а не пожелаеш хубостта ѝ в сърцето си; да не те улови с клепачите си;

Lust not after her beauty in your heart, neither let her capture you with her eyelids.

26 з ащото поради блудница човек изпада в нужда за парче хляб; а прелюбодейката лови скъпоценната душа.

For on account of a harlot a man is brought to a piece of bread, and the adulteress stalks and snares the precious life.

27 М оже ли някой да сложи огън в пазвата си и дрехите му да не изгорят?

Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?

28 М оже ли някой да ходи по разпалени въглища и краката му да не се опекат?

Can one go upon hot coals and his feet not be burned?

29 Т ака е с онзи, който влиза при жената на ближния си; който се допре до нея, няма да остане ненаказан.

So he who cohabits with his neighbor’s wife; he who touches her shall not be innocent or go unpunished.

30 Д ори крадецът не се отървава ненаказан, даже ако краде, за да насити душата си, когато е гладен;

Men do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry;

31 и ако бъде хванат, той трябва да върне седмократно, трябва да даде целия имот на къщата си.

But if he is found out, he must restore seven times; he must give the whole substance of his house.

32 О нзи, който прелюбодейства с жена, е безумен. Който прави това, би погубил душата си.

But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks heart and understanding (moral principle and prudence); he who does it is destroying his own life.

33 Б иене и позор ще намери и срамът му няма да се изличи.

Wounds and disgrace will he get, and his reproach will not be wiped away.

34 З ащото ревнуването на мъжа е истинска ярост; и той няма да пожали в деня на възмездието;

For jealousy makes man furious; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 н яма да иска да знае за никакъв откуп, нито ще се умилостиви, дори и да му дадеш много подаръци.

He will not consider any ransom; neither will he be satisfied, though you offer him many gifts and bribes.
