1 Т огава теманецът Елифаз отговори:

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,

2 М ъдър човек с вятърничаво ли знание отговаря и с източен вятър ли пълни корема си?

Should a wise man utter such windy knowledge and fill himself with the east wind ?

3 С празни думи ли се препира и с безполезни речи?

Should he reason with unprofitable talk? Or with speeches with which he can do no good?

4 Н аистина ти унищожаваш страха от Бога и намаляваш моленето пред Него.

Indeed, you are doing away with fear, and you are hindering and diminishing meditation and devotion before God.

5 З ащото беззаконието ти поучава устата ти и си избрал езика на лукавите.

For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.

6 Т воите уста те осъждат, а не аз; твоите устни свидетелстват против тебе.

Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; yes, your own lips testify against you.

7 Т и ли си първороденият човек? Или създаден ли си преди хълмовете?

Are you the first man that was born ? Or were you created before the hills?

8 Ч ул ли си ти Божиите тайни намерения? Или си заключил в себе си мъдростта?

Were you present to hear the secret counsel of God? And do you limit wisdom to yourself?

9 К акво знаеш ти, което ние не знаем? Какво разбираш ти, което няма в нас?

What do you know that we know not? What do you understand that is not equally clear to us?

10 И ма и между нас и белокоси, и престарели, по-напреднали на възраст и от баща ти.

Among us are both the gray-haired and the aged, older than your father by far.

11 Б ожиите утешения и меките Му думи към тебе малко нещо ли са за тебе?

Are God’s consolations too trivial for you? Is there any secret thing (any bosom sin) which you have not given up? were we too gentle toward you to be effective?

12 К акво те блазни сърцето ти и на какво смигат очите ти,

Why does your heart carry you away ? And why do your eyes flash,

13 ч е обръщаш духа си против Бога и изпускаш такива думи от устата си?

That you turn your spirit against God and let words go out of your mouth?

14 К акво е човек, за да е чист, и роденият от жена, за да е праведен?

What is man, that he could be pure and clean? And he who is born of a woman, that he could be right and just?

15 Е то, на святите Си ангели Той не се доверява и небесата не са чисти в очите Му;

Behold, puts no trust in His holy ones; indeed, the heavens are not clean in His sight—

16 к олко повече е гнусен и непотребен човек, който пие неправда като вода!

How much less that which is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water?

17 А з ще ти кажа, послушай ме; и това, което съм видял, ще ти изявя

I will show you, hear me; and that which I have seen I will relate,

18 ( което мъдрите не скриха, а възвестиха, както бяха чули от бащите си;

What wise men have not hid but have freely communicated; it was told to them by their fathers,

19 н а които беше дадена земята и само на тях, и чужденецът не мина между тях):

Unto whom alone the land was given, and no stranger intruded or passed among them.

20 Н ечестивият се мъчи през всичките си дни; и преброени години са запазени за мъчителя.

The wicked man suffers with torment all his days, through all the years that are numbered and laid up for him, the oppressor.

21 У жасни гласове има в ушите му, че като е в спокойствие, ще го нападне изтребителят;

A sound of terrors is in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

22 н е вярва, че ще се върне от тъмнината; и той е очакван от меча;

He believes that he will not return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword.

23 с кита се да търси хляб, като казва: Къде е? Знае, че денят на тъмнината е готов до ръката му;

He wanders abroad for food, saying, Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness and destruction is already close upon him.

24 с кръб и тъга го плашат - като цар, приготвен за бой, му надвиват,

Distress and anguish terrify him; they shall prevail against him, like a king ready for battle.

25 п онеже той вдигна ръката си против Бога и се възгордя против Всемогъщия;

Because he has stretched out his hand against God and bids defiance and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty,

26 с пусна се към Него с корав врат, с дебелите изпъкналости на щитовете си.

Running stubbornly against Him with a thickly ornamented shield;

27 П онеже покри лицето си с тлъстината си и затлъсти кръста си,

Because he has covered his face with his fat, adding layers of fat on his loins,

28 т ой се засели в разорени градове, в къщи необитаеми, готови да станат на купове.

And has lived in desolate cities and in houses which no man should inhabit, which were destined to become heaps;

29 Н яма да се обогати и имотът му няма да трае, нито ще се навеждат до земята произведенията им.

He shall not be rich, neither shall his wealth last, neither shall his produce bend to the earth nor his possessions be extended on the earth.

30 Н яма да се отърве от тъмнината; пламък ще изсуши младоците му; и от диханието на Божиите уста ще бъде завлечен.

He shall not depart out of darkness shall consume him as flame consumes a dry tree, and by the blast of His mouth he shall be swept away.

31 Н ека не се доверява на суетата самоизмамен; защото суета ще бъде заплатата му.

Let him not deceive himself and trust in vanity (emptiness, falseness, and futility), for these shall be his recompense.

32 П реди времето си ще се изплати и клонът му няма да се раззеленее.

It shall be accomplished and paid in full while he still lives, and his branch shall not be green.

33 Щ е изрони неузрялото си грозде като лозата и ще хвърли цвета си като маслината.

He shall fail to bring his grapes to maturity on the vine and shall cast off blossoms like the olive tree.

34 З ащото дружината на нечестивите ще запустее; и огън ще изгори шатрите на подкупничеството.

For the company of the godless shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery (wrong and injustice).

35 З ачеват зло и раждат беззаконие, и сърцето им подготвя измама.

They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity, and their inmost soul hatches deceit.
