1 L o, mine eye hath seen all this, Mine ear hath heard and understood it.

3 S urely I would speak to the Almighty, And I desire to reason with God.

Но я бы хотел поговорить со Всемогущим, с Богом поспорить о моем деле.

4 B ut ye are forgers of lies; Ye are all physicians of no value.

А вы замарали меня ложью, все вы – бесполезные лекари.

5 O h that ye would altogether hold your peace! And it would be your wisdom.

О если бы вы все вместе замолчали! В этом была бы мудрость для вас.

6 H ear now my reasoning, And hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

Выслушайте же мои доводы, внимайте укорам моих уст.

7 W ill ye speak unrighteously for God, And talk deceitfully for him?

Неужели вы станете лгать ради Бога, и обманывать ради Него?

8 W ill ye show partiality to him? Will ye contend for God?

Будете ради Него пристрастными, и в суде станете Его выгораживать?

9 I s it good that he should search you out? Or as one deceiveth a man, will ye deceive him?

Что с вами будет, если Он испытает вас? Обманете ли вы Его, как обманываете людей?

10 H e will surely reprove you If ye do secretly show partiality.

Он непременно осудит вас, если вы были втайне пристрастны.

11 S hall not his majesty make you afraid, And his dread fall upon you?

Не страшит вас Его величие? Ужас перед Ним вас не объемлет?

12 Y our memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes, Your defences are defences of clay.

Изречения ваши – зола, и оплот ваш – оплот из глины.

13 H old your peace, let me alone, that I may speak; And let come on me what will.

Замолчите, и я буду говорить; а потом пусть будет со мной, что будет.

14 W herefore should I take my flesh in my teeth, And put my life in my hand?

Я подвергну себя опасности, жизнью своей рискну.

15 B ehold, he will slay me; I have no hope: Nevertheless I will maintain my ways before him.

Он убивает меня, но я буду надеяться на Него; перед Его лицом я защищу свой путь!

16 T his also shall be my salvation, That a godless man shall not come before him.

И в этом мое спасение, ведь безбожник предстать перед Ним не осмелится!

17 H ear diligently my speech, And let my declaration be in your ears.

Внимайте моим словам; пусть дойдет моя речь до ваших ушей.

18 B ehold now, I have set my cause in order; I know that I am righteous.

Вот, я завел судебное дело и знаю, что буду оправдан.

19 W ho is he that will contend with me? For then would I hold my peace and give up the ghost.

Возьмется ли кто оспаривать меня? Если да, то я замолчу и умру.

20 O nly do not two things unto me; Then will I not hide myself from thy face:

Лишь о двух вещах я, Боже, молю, и не стану я больше прятаться от Тебя –

21 W ithdraw thy hand far from me; And let not thy terror make me afraid.

удали от меня Свою руку и не страши меня ужасом Твоим.

22 T hen call thou, and I will answer; Or let me speak, and answer thou me.

Тогда призови меня, и я откликнусь, или позволь мне говорить, а Сам отвечай.

23 H ow many are mine iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

Сколько за мной злодейств и грехов? Покажи мне проступки мои и грех.

24 W herefore hidest thou thy face, And holdest me for thine enemy?

За что Ты скрываешь Свое лицо и считаешь меня врагом?

25 W ilt thou harass a driven leaf? And wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?

Станешь ли Ты пугать лист опавший? Пустишься ли за сухою соломинкой в погоню?

26 F or thou writest bitter things against me, And makest me to inherit the iniquities of my youth:

Ты записываешь горькое против меня и грехи моей юности мне вменяешь.

27 T hou puttest my feet also in the stocks, And markest all my paths; Thou settest a bound to the soles of my feet:

Ноги мои Ты заковал в колодки; следишь за всеми моими путями; по следам моих ног идешь.

28 T hough I am like a rotten thing that consumeth, Like a garment that is moth-eaten.

И распадается человек, как гниль, как изъеденная молью одежда.
