1 A nd the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who dwelt in the South, heard tell that Israel came by the way of Atharim; and he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.

2 A nd Israel vowed a vow unto Jehovah, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

Тогда Израиль дал Господу обет: – Если Ты отдашь этот народ в наши руки, мы полностью уничтожим его города.

3 A nd Jehovah hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and the name of the place was called Hormah.

Господь услышал мольбу израильтян и отдал им во власть хананеев. Они полностью уничтожили их с их городами. Так это место было названо Хорма. Медный змей

4 A nd they journeyed from mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

От горы Ор они тронулись в путь по дороге к Красному морю, чтобы обойти Эдом. Но в пути народ пал духом;

5 A nd the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

они роптали на Бога и на Моисея: – Зачем вы вывели нас из Египта? Чтобы мы умерли в пустыне? Хлеба нет! Воды нет! А эта убогая пища нам противна!

6 A nd Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

Тогда Господь наслал на них ядовитых змей; они жалили израильтян, и многие умерли.

7 A nd the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, because we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee; pray unto Jehovah, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

Народ пришел к Моисею и сказал: – Мы согрешили, когда роптали на Господа и на тебя. Помолись, чтобы Господь избавил нас от змей. Моисей помолился за народ,

8 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a standard: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he seeth it, shall live.

и Господь сказал Моисею: – Сделай змея и укрепи его на шесте: всякий ужаленный посмотрит на него и останется жить.

9 A nd Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it upon the standard: and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked unto the serpent of brass, he lived.

Моисей сделал медного змея и укрепил его на шесте. И когда змея жалила человека, он, взглянув на медного змея, оставался жив. Дорога в Моав

10 A nd the children of Israel journeyed, and encamped in Oboth.

Израильтяне двинулись дальше и остановились в Овоте.

11 A nd they journeyed from Oboth, and encamped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.

Они тронулись в путь из Овота и остановились в Ийе-Авариме, в пустыне, что против Моава, к восходу солнца.

12 F rom thence they journeyed, and encamped in the valley of Zered.

Оттуда они двинулись дальше и остановились в долине Заред.

13 F rom thence they journeyed, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that cometh out of the border of the Amorites: for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

Оттуда они двинулись дальше и остановились на другой стороне реки Арнона, в пустыне, которая простирается от рубежей аморреев (Арнон – это граница Моава, между Моавом и аморреями).

14 W herefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Jehovah, Vaheb in Suphah, And the valleys of the Arnon,

Вот почему в «Книге Господних войн» упоминается:

15 A nd the slope of the valleys That inclineth toward the dwelling of Ar, And leaneth upon the border of Moab.

«Вагеб в Суфе и притоки Арнона, и склоны ущелий, что тянутся к местности Ар и лежат вдоль границ Моава ».

16 A nd from thence they journeyed to Beer: that is the well whereof Jehovah said unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

Оттуда они продолжили путь к Беэру, колодцу, где Господь сказал Моисею: – Собери народ, и Я дам им воду.

17 T hen sang Israel this song: Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:

Тогда Израиль пел эту песню: «Наполняйся, колодец! Пойте о нем,

18 T he well, which the princes digged, Which the nobles of the people delved, With the sceptre, and with their staves. And from the wilderness they journeyed to Mattanah;

о колодце, что выкопали вожди, вырыла знать народа скипетрами и жезлами». Они пошли из пустыни в Маттану,

19 a nd from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;

из Маттаны в Нагалиил, из Нагалиила в Бамот,

20 a nd from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh down upon the desert.

а из Бамота в долину Моава, где высится над пустыней вершина Фасги. Победа над Сигоном (Втор. 2: 24-37)

21 A nd Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

Израиль послал вестников, чтобы сказать Сигону, царю аморреев:

22 L et me pass through thy land: we will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard; we will not drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's highway, until we have passed thy border.

– Позволь нам пройти через твою страну. Мы не свернем ни на поле, ни в виноградник, не будем пить воду из колодцев. Мы будем идти по Царской дороге, пока не пройдем через твою землю.

23 A nd Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz; and he fought against Israel.

Но Сигон не позволил Израилю пройти через свою землю. Он собрал войско и выступил в пустыню навстречу Израилю. Подойдя к Иахацу, он сразился с Израилем.

24 A nd Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon unto the Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.

Но Израиль предал его мечу и завладел его землей от реки Арнона до реки Яббока, до аммонитян, потому что граница аммонитян была укреплена.

25 A nd Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the towns thereof.

Израиль захватил все города аморреев и занял их, включая Хешбон с окрестными поселениями.

26 F or Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto the Arnon.

Хешбон был столицей Сигона, царя аморреев, который воевал с прежним царем Моава и отнял у него всю его землю до самого Арнона.

27 W herefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come ye to Heshbon; Let the city of Sihon be built and established:

Вот почему сказители поют: «Идите в Хешбон – пусть будет отстроен; пусть встанет из праха город Сигона!

28 F or a fire is gone out of Heshbon, A flame from the city of Sihon: It hath devoured Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of the Arnon.

Полыхает огонь из Хешбона, пышет пламя из города Сигона. Оно пожрало Ар-Моав, хозяев высот Арнона.

29 W oe to thee, Moab! Thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: He hath given his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, Unto Sihon king of the Amorites.

Горе тебе, Моав! Сгинул ты, народ Кемоша! Сыновей своих беженцами он сделал, дочерей своих – пленницами Сигона, царя аморреев.

30 W e have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, And we have laid waste even unto Nophah, Which reacheth unto Medeba.

Сгинуло твое потомство от Хешбона до Дивона. Мы до Нофаха разоряли, что простерлась до Медевы ».

31 T hus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.

Так Израиль поселился на земле аморреев.

32 A nd Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took the towns thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.

Моисей послал разведчиков в Иазер, и израильтяне захватили села вокруг него, выгнав из них аморреев. Победа над Огом (Втор. 3: 1-11)

33 A nd they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

Потом они повернули и поднялись по дороге к Башану. Ог, царь Башана, выступил со всем своим войском им навстречу, чтобы сразиться с ними у города Эдреи.

34 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

Господь сказал Моисею: – Не бойся его. Я отдал его в твои руки со всем его войском и землей. Сделай с ним то же, что и с Сигоном, царем аморреев, который правил в Хешбоне.

35 S o they smote him, and his sons and all his people, until there was none left him remaining: and they possessed his land.

Они убили его вместе с его сыновьями и всем войском, не оставив в живых никого, и завладели его землей.
