1 T hen Job answered and said,

Тогда Иов ответил:

2 E ven to-day is my complaint rebellious: My stroke is heavier than my groaning.

– Еще и сегодня горька моя жалоба; невзирая на мой стон, Его рука тяжела.

3 O h that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!

О, если бы я знал, где мне найти Его! О, если бы я мог войти в жилище Его!

4 I would set my cause in order before him, And fill my mouth with arguments.

Я бы дело мое перед Ним изложил и наполнил уста свои оправданиями.

5 I would know the words which he would answer me, And understand what he would say unto me.

Я узнал бы, что Он ответит мне, я бы понял, что Он мне скажет.

6 W ould he contend with me in the greatness of his power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me.

Разве стал бы Он судиться со мной во всей Своей мощи? Нет! Он выслушал бы меня Сам.

7 T here the upright might reason with him; So should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

Тогда праведник мог бы судиться с Ним, и я был бы навеки оправдан моим Судьей.

8 B ehold, I go forward, but he is not there; And backward, but I cannot perceive him;

Иду ли на восток, Его там нет; иду ли на запад – не нахожу Его.

9 O n the left hand, when he doth work, but I cannot behold him; He hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him.

Творит ли Он что на севере, не вижу Его; повернет ли к югу – не замечаю.

10 B ut he knoweth the way that I take; When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Но Ему известен мой путь. Пусть Он испытает меня, я выйду, как золото.

11 M y foot hath held fast to his steps; His way have I kept, and turned not aside.

Я верно держался Его пути; я хранил Его путь, не уклоняясь в сторону.

12 I have not gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Не отступал я от повелений из уст Его; больше, чем хлебом насущным, дорожил я Его словами.

13 B ut he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

Но если Он решил, то кто Ему противостанет? Он творит, что Ему угодно.

14 F or he performeth that which is appointed for me: And many such things are with him.

Исполняет Он Свой приговор против меня, и много подобного в запасе у Него!

15 T herefore am I terrified at his presence; When I consider, I am afraid of him.

Потому я и в ужасе перед Ним; размышляя об этом, страшусь Его.

16 F or God hath made my heart faint, And the Almighty hath terrified me;

Сделал Бог мое сердце слабым; Всемогущий ужасом поразил меня;

17 B ecause I was not cut off before the darkness, Neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.

но тьма и мгла, застилающая мне лицо, не ввергли меня в безмолвие.
