1 A nd it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

2 A nd the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people; for the people heard say that day, The king grieveth for his son.

И для всего войска победа того дня превратилась в скорбь, потому что в тот день воины слышали, как говорилось: «Царь горюет о своем сыне».

3 A nd the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

Воины прокрадывались в город, как крадутся те, кто опозорен, обратившись во время битвы в бегство.

4 A nd the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

Царь закрыл лицо и громко кричал: – О мой сын Авессалом! О Авессалом, сын мой, сын мой!

5 A nd Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, who this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

Иоав вошел в дом к царю и сказал: – Сегодня ты унизил всех своих людей, которые только что спасли твою жизнь, жизни твоих сыновей и дочерей, жизни твоих жен и наложниц.

6 i n that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest them that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that princes and servants are nought unto thee: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

Ты любишь тех, кто тебя ненавидит, и ненавидишь тех, кто тебя любит. Сегодня ты ясно показал, что военачальники и их люди для тебя ничего не значат. Я понимаю, ты был бы доволен, если бы Авессалом сегодня был жив, а мы все умерли.

7 N ow therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants; for I swear by Jehovah, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry a man with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that hath befallen thee from thy youth until now.

Выйди же и ободри своих людей. Клянусь Господом, что если ты не выйдешь, к ночи у тебя не останется ни одного человека. Для тебя это будет хуже, чем все бедствия, которые обрушивались на тебя со времен твоей юности и до сих пор.

8 T hen the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate: and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

Царь поднялся и сел у ворот. Когда воинам сказали: «Царь сидит у ворот»,– они все пришли к нему. Давид возвращается в Иерусалим Тем временем израильтяне разбежались по своим домам.

9 A nd all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom.

Во всех родах Израиля люди спорили друг с другом, говоря: – Царь избавил нас от рук наших врагов; именно он избавил нас от рук филистимлян. Но теперь он бежал из страны из-за Авессалома;

10 A nd Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?

а Авессалом, которого мы помазали править нами, погиб в бою. Так почему же вы ничего не скажете о том, чтобы вернуть царя обратно?

11 A nd king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, to bring him to his house.

Царь Давид послал сказать священникам Цадоку и Авиатару: – Спросите старейшин Иудеи: «Зачем вам быть последними в том, чтобы вернуть царя домой? Ведь то, о чем говорят по всему Израилю, дошло до царя, в его дом.

12 Y e are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?

Вы мои братья, моя кровь и плоть. Так зачем же вам быть последними в том, чтобы вернуть царя обратно?»

13 A nd say ye to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

А Амасе скажите: «Разве ты – не моя кровь и плоть? Пусть Бог сурово накажет меня, если отныне и впредь ты не будешь начальником моего войска вместо Иоава».

14 A nd he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent unto the king, saying, Return thou, and all thy servants.

Он расположил к себе сердца всех иудеев как одного человека. Они послали сказать царю: – Вернись ты сам, и пусть вернутся все твои люди.

15 S o the king returned, and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

И царь вернулся и прошел до Иордана. А иудеи пришли в Гилгал, чтобы встретить царя и переправить его через Иордан. Милость Давида

16 A nd Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

Шимей, сын Геры, вениамитянин из Бахурима, вместе с иудеями поспешил навстречу царю Давиду.

17 A nd there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.

С ним была тысяча вениамитян, а также Цива, слуга дома Саула, пятнадцать его сыновей и двадцать слуг. Они поспешили к Иордану, где находился царь.

18 A nd there went over a ferry-boat to bring over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he was come over the Jordan.

Они перешли реку вброд, чтобы переправить дом царя и исполнить все, что он пожелает. Когда Шимей, сын Геры, переправился через Иордан, он распростерся перед царем

19 A nd he said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

и сказал ему: – Пусть мой господин не вменяет мне моего преступления. Не вспоминай, как твой слуга совершил зло в тот день, когда господин мой царь покинул Иерусалим. Пусть царь не держит этого на сердце.

20 F or thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

Ведь твой слуга знает, что согрешил, но сегодня я пришел сюда первым из всего дома Иосифа, чтобы встретить моего господина, царя.

21 B ut Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Jehovah's anointed?

Авишай, сын Саруи, сказал: – Разве не следует предать за это Шимея смерти? Он проклинал Господнего помазанника.

22 A nd David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

Давид ответил: – Что у меня с вами общего, сыновья Саруи? Сегодня вы стали моими противниками! Сегодня я твердо знаю, что я – царь Израиля, и поэтому никто в Израиле не будет предан смерти!

23 A nd the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.

Царь сказал Шимею: – Ты не умрешь. И царь поклялся ему.

24 A nd Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

Мефи-Бошет, внук Саула, также вышел навстречу царю. Он не мыл ног, не стриг усов и не стирал своей одежды с того самого дня, когда царь ушел, до того дня, когда он благополучно вернулся.

25 A nd it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?

Когда он пришел из Иерусалима, чтобы встретить царя, царь спросил его: – Почему ты не пошел со мной, Мефи-Бошет?

26 A nd he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because thy servant is lame.

Он ответил: – Господин мой царь, так как твой слуга хромой, я сказал: «Оседлаю своего осла и поеду на нем, чтобы мне отправиться вместе с царем». Но Цива, мой слуга, предал меня.

27 A nd he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

Он еще и оклеветал твоего слугу перед господином моим царем. Господин мой царь, как Ангел Божий; делай так, как тебе угодно.

28 F or all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more unto the king?

Все потомки моего деда не заслужили от моего господина, царя, ничего, кроме смерти, но ты дал твоему слуге место среди тех, кто сидит за твоим столом. И какое же я имею право еще что-либо просить у царя?

29 A nd the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I say, Thou and Ziba divide the land.

Царь сказал ему: – Зачем говорить дальше? Я приказываю тебе и Циве разделить поля.

30 A nd Mephibosheth said unto the king, yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come in peace unto his own house.

Мефи-Бошет сказал царю: – Да пусть он забирает все, раз господин мой царь прибыл домой благополучно. Давид прощается с Верзеллием

31 A nd Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.

Галаадитянин Верзеллий также пришел из Роглима, чтобы переправиться с царем через Иордан и оттуда проводить его в путь.

32 N ow Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

Верзеллий был глубоким стариком, ему было восемьдесят лет. Он обеспечивал царя, когда тот находился в Маханаиме, потому что был очень богат.

33 A nd the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.

Царь сказал Верзеллию: – Переправляйся со мной и живи у меня в Иерусалиме, а я буду обеспечивать тебя.

34 A nd Barzillai said unto the king, How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

Но Верзеллий ответил царю: – Сколько лет мне еще осталось жить, чтобы мне идти с царем в Иерусалим?

35 I am this day fourscore years old: can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

Сейчас мне восемьдесят лет. Могу ли я отличать то, что приятно, от того, что нет? Может ли твой слуга чувствовать вкус того, что он ест и пьет? Могу ли я еще слышать голоса певцов и певиц? Зачем твоему слуге быть в тягость господину моему царю?

36 T hy servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

Твой слуга немного пройдет с царем за Иордан, но зачем царю награждать меня такой милостью?

37 L et thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

Позволь твоему слуге вернуться, чтобы я мог умереть в своем городе, рядом с могилой моего отца и матери. Но вот твой слуга Кимгам. Пусть он переправится вместе с господином моим царем. Сделай для него все, что тебе угодно.

38 A nd the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.

Царь сказал: – Кимгам переправится со мной, и я сделаю для него все, что угодно тебе. А для тебя я сделаю все, чего бы ты ни пожелал.

39 A nd all the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over: and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

И весь народ переправился через Иордан, а после этого переправился и царь. Царь поцеловал Верзеллия, благословил его, и Верзеллий вернулся домой.

40 S o the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him: and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

Когда царь переправился в Гилгал, Кимгам переправился вместе с ним. Все воины Иудеи и половина воинов Израиля пошли с ним. Спор израильтян с иудеями

41 A nd, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David's men with him?

Вскоре все израильтяне пришли к царю и сказали ему: – Почему наши братья иудеи похитили царя и переправили его и его дом через Иордан, вместе со всеми его людьми?

42 A nd all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then are ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all at the king's cost? or hath he given us any gift?

Все иудеи отвечали израильтянам: – Мы сделали это потому, что царь нам кровный родственник. Почему вы злитесь из-за этого? Разве мы съели что-нибудь из царских запасов? Разве мы получили от него подарки?

43 A nd the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

Израильтяне отвечали иудеям: – У нас в царе десять долей; и кроме этого у нас больше прав на Давида, чем у вас. Так почему же вы нас презираете? Разве не мы первые заговорили о том, чтобы вернуть царя обратно? Но иудеи отвечали еще резче, чем израильтяне.
