1 A nd it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

(19-2) А Йоаву донесено: Ось цар плаче, і зачав жалобу по Авесаломові.

2 A nd the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people; for the people heard say that day, The king grieveth for his son.

(19-3) І того дня ця перемога обернулася на жалобу для всього народу, бо того дня народ почув, що казали: Засмутився цар за своїм сином!

3 A nd the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

(19-4) І прокрадався народ того дня, щоб увійти до міста, як прокрадається народ, засоромлений своєю втечею з бою...

4 A nd the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

(19-5) А цар закрив своє обличчя. І голосив цар сильним голосом: Сину мій, Авесаломе! Авесаломе, сину мій! Сину мій!...

5 A nd Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, who this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

(19-6) І прийшов Йоав до дому царя, та й сказав: Сьогодні ти засоромив обличчя всіх своїх рабів, які сьогодні врятували життя твоє, і життя синів твоїх та дочок твоїх, і життя жінок твоїх, і життя наложниць твоїх,

6 i n that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest them that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that princes and servants are nought unto thee: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

(19-7) через те, що ти любиш тих, хто тебе ненавидить, і ненавидиш тих, хто тебе любить, бож сьогодні ти виявив, що нема в тебе вождів ані слуг. Бо сьогодні я знаю, що коли б Авесалом був живий, а ми всі сьогодні були мертві, то тоді це було б любе в очах твоїх...

7 N ow therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants; for I swear by Jehovah, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry a man with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that hath befallen thee from thy youth until now.

(19-8) А тепер устань, і говори до серця своїх рабів. Бо присягаю Господом, якщо ти не вийдеш, то цієї ночі ніхто не буде ночувати з тобою, і це буде тобі гірше за всяке зло, що приходило на тебе від молодости твоєї аж дотепер!

8 T hen the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate: and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

(19-9) І цар устав та й засів у брамі, а всьому народові донесли, говорячи: Ось цар сидить у брамі! І посходився ввесь народ перед царське обличчя, а Ізраїль повтікав кожен до своїх наметів.

9 A nd all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom.

(19-10) І сперечався ввесь народ по всіх Ізраїлевих племенах, говорячи: Цар урятував нас від руки всіх наших ворогів, він же врятував нас із руки филистимлян, а тепер утік із краю перед Авесаломом.

10 A nd Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?

(19-11) А Авесалом, якого ми помазали були над собою, помер на війні. А тепер чого ви зволікаєте щоб вернути царя?

11 A nd king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, to bring him to his house.

(19-12) І цар Давид послав до священиків, до Садока та до Евіятара, говорячи: Говоріть так до Юдиних старших: Чого ви будете останніми, щоб вернути царя до його дому? А слово всього Ізраїля прийшло вже до царя, до його дому.

12 Y e are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?

(19-13) Ви браття мої, ви кість моя та тіло моє! І чого ви будете останніми, щоб вернути царя?

13 A nd say ye to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

(19-14) А Амасі скажете: Чи ж ти не кість моя та не тіло моє? Нехай так зробить мені Бог, і нехай ще додасть, якщо ти не будеш у мене вождем війська по всі дні замість Йоава.

14 A nd he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent unto the king, saying, Return thou, and all thy servants.

(19-15) І прихилив він серце всіх Юдиних мужів, як одного чоловіка. І послали вони до царя: Вернися ти та всі твої слуги!

15 S o the king returned, and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

(19-16) І вернувся цар, і прийшов аж до Йордану, а Юда прийшов до Ґілґалу назустріч цареві, щоб перепровадити царя через Йордан.

16 A nd Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

(19-17) А Шім'ї, Ґерин син, Веніяминівець, що з Бахуріму, поспішив і зійшов з Юдиними мужами на зустріч царя Давида.

17 A nd there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.

(19-18) І з ним було тисяча чоловіка з Веніямина, та Ціва, слуга Саулового дому, і п'ятнадцятеро синів його та двадцятеро його рабів із ним. І вони перейшли Йордан перед царем.

18 A nd there went over a ferry-boat to bring over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he was come over the Jordan.

(19-19) І перейшов порон, щоб перепровадити царський дім та зробити, що було добре в очах його. А Шім'ї, Ґерин син, упав перед царем, як той переходив Йордан,

19 A nd he said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

(19-20) та й цареві сказав: Нехай пан не порахує мені переступу, і не пам'ятай, що раб твій провинився був того дня, коли мій пан цар вийшов був з Єрусалиму, щоб цар не поклав це до серця свого!

20 F or thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

(19-21) Бо раб твій знає, що згрішив він, і ось я прийшов сьогодні з усього Йосипового дому перший, щоб вийти зустріти мого пана царя.

21 B ut Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Jehovah's anointed?

(19-22) А Авішай, син Церуїн, відповів та й сказав: Чи ж не буде забитий Шім'ї за те, що проклинав Господнього помазанця?

22 A nd David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

(19-23) А Давид відказав: Що вам до мене, сини Церуїні, що ви сьогодні стаєте мені за сатану? Чи сьогодні буде забитий хто в Ізраїлі? Хіба ж я не знаю, що сьогодні я цар над Ізраїлем?

23 A nd the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.

(19-24) А до Шім'ї цар сказав: Не помреш! І заприсягнув йому цар.

24 A nd Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

(19-25) І зійшов спіткати царя й Мефівошет, онук Саулів. А він не оправляв ніг своїх і не оправляв вуса свого, і не оправляв своєї одежі від дня, як цар вийшов, аж до дня, коли він вернувся з миром.

25 A nd it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?

(19-26) І сталося, коли прийшов він до Єрусалиму зустріти царя, то сказав йому цар: Чому ти не пішов зо мною, Мефівошете?

26 A nd he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because thy servant is lame.

(19-27) А той відказав: Пане мій царю, раб мій обманив мене! Бо я, раб твій, сказав: осідлаю собі осла, і сяду на нього, та й поїду з царем, бо раб твій кульгавий.

27 A nd he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

(19-28) Та він очернив раба твого перед паном моїм царем. А мій пан цар, немов Божий Ангол, тому зроби, що добре в очах твоїх!

28 F or all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more unto the king?

(19-29) Бож хіба ввесь дім батька мого не був вартий смерти перед моїм паном царем? Та ти вмістив раба свого серед їдців свого столу. І яке ж я маю право скаржитися перед царем?

29 A nd the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I say, Thou and Ziba divide the land.

(19-30) І сказав йому цар: Пощо ти говориш іще оці свої слова? Я сказав: ти та Ціва поділите поле.

30 A nd Mephibosheth said unto the king, yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come in peace unto his own house.

(19-31) І сказав Мефівошет до царя: Нехай він візьме навіть усе по тому, коли мій пан, цар прийшов із миром до дому свого!.

31 A nd Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.

(19-32) А ґілеадянин Барзіллай зійшов з Роґеліму, і перейшов з царем Йордан, щоб провести його за Йордан.

32 N ow Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

(19-33) А Барзіллай був дуже старий, віку восьмидесяти літ. І він годував царя, як той сидів був у Маханаїмі, бо він був дуже заможна людина.

33 A nd the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.

(19-34) І сказав цар до Барзіллая: Перейди зо мною, і я буду годувати тебе при собі в Єрусалимі.

34 A nd Barzillai said unto the king, How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

(19-35) І сказав Барзіллай до царя: Скільки ще часу життя мого, що я піду з царем до Єрусалиму?

35 I am this day fourscore years old: can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

(19-36) Я сьогодні віку восьмидесяти літ. Чи можу я розпізнавати між добрим та злим? Чи розкуштує твій раб, що буду їсти та що буду пити? Чи послухаю я ще голосу співаків та співачок? І пощо буде ще раб твій тягарем для свого пана царя?

36 T hy servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

(19-37) Трохи перейде твій раб із царем за Йордан. І чого цар висвідчує мені оце?

37 L et thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

(19-38) Нехай раб твій вернеться, і нехай помре у своєму місті при гробі батька свого та своєї матері. А ось раб твій, син мій Кімган перейде з паном моїм, із царем, а ти зроби йому, що добре в очах твоїх.

38 A nd the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.

(19-39) І сказав цар: Кімган перейде зо мною, а я зроблю йому, що миле в очах твоїх. І все, що вибереш у мене, я зроблю тобі!

39 A nd all the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over: and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

(19-40) І ввесь народ перейшов Йордан, перейшов і цар. І цар поцілував Барзіллая, та й поблагословив його, і той вернувся на своє місце.

40 S o the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him: and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

(19-41) І перейшов цар до Ґілґалу, а з ним перейшов Кімган та ввесь Юдин народ, і вони перепровадили царя, а також перейшла половина Ізраїлевого народу.

41 A nd, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David's men with him?

(19-42) Аж ось усі ізраїльтяни прийшли до царя. І сказали вони цареві: Чому вкрали тебе наші браття, люди Юдині, і перепровадили царя та його дім через Йордан, та всіх Давидових людей з ним?

42 A nd all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then are ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all at the king's cost? or hath he given us any gift?

(19-43) І відповіли всі Юдині люди Ізраїлеві: Бо близький цар до нас! І чого то запалився тобі гнів на цю річ? Чи справді з'їли ми що в царя? Чи теж справді він роздав нам які дарунки?

43 A nd the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

(19-44) І відповіли ізраїльтяни юдеям та й сказали: Нас десять частин у царя, а також і в Давида ми ліпші від вас. Чому ж ви злегковажили нас? Хіба ж не нам було перше слово, щоб вернути царя? Але слово юдеїв було гостріше від слова ізраїльтян.
