1 A nd again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah.

І знову запалився Господній гнів на Ізраїля, і намовив сатана Давида проти них, говорячи: Іди, перелічи Ізраїля та Юду!

2 A nd the king said to Joab the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people.

І сказав цар до Йоава, вождя війська, що з ним: Перемандруй серед усіх Ізраїлевих племен від Дану аж до Беер-Шеви, і перелічіть народ, і я пізнаю число цього народу.

3 A nd Joab said unto the king, Now Jehovah thy God add unto the people, how many soever they may be, a hundredfold; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

І сказав Йоав до царя: Нехай же Господь, Бог твій, додасть до народу в сто раз стільки, скільки є, а очі мого пана, царя, бачать. Та нащо пан мій, цар, уподобав собі таку річ?

4 N otwithstanding, the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

Та цареве слово до Йоава та на військових провідників перемогло. І вийшов Йоав та військові провідники від царя, щоб перелічити Ізраїлів народ.

5 A nd they passed over the Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and unto Jazer:

І перейшли вони Йордан, і таборували в Ароері, з правого боку міста, що лежить в середині долини Ґаду та при Язері.

6 t hen they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and round about to Sidon,

І прийшли вони до Ґілеаду та до краю Тахтім-Ходші. І прийшли до Дан-Яану, і навколо до Сидону.

7 a nd came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beer-sheba.

І прийшли вони до твердині Цор й до всіх міст хіввеянина та ханаанеянина, і вийшли до Юдиного Неґеву, до Беер-Шеви.

8 S o when they had gone to and from through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

І мандрували вони по цілому краю, і прийшли в кінці дев'яти місяців та двадцяти днів до Єрусалиму.

9 A nd Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

І дав Йоав цареві число переліку народу. І було Ізраїля вісімсот тисяч сильних мужів, що витягають меча, а Юдиного мужа п'ятьсот тисяч чоловіка.

10 A nd David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done: but now, O Jehovah, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

І збентежилося Давидове серце, як перелічив він народ. І сказав Давид до Господа: Я дуже згрішив, що зробив це! А тепер, Господи, відсунь же провину Свого раба, бо я дуже немудро вчинив!...

11 A nd when David rose up in the morning, the word of Jehovah came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

І встав Давид рано вранці, а Господнє слово було до пророка Ґада, Давидового прозорливця, говорячи:

12 G o and speak unto David, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

Іди, та й скажеш Давидові: Так сказав Господь: Три карі кладу Я на тебе, вибери собі одну з них, і Я зроблю її тобі.

13 S o Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy foes while they pursue thee? or shall there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise thee, and consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

І прийшов Ґад до Давида, і розповів йому та й до нього сказав: Чи прийдуть тобі сім літ голоду в твоїм краї, чи теж три місяці твого втікання перед ворогами твоїми, а вони тебе гнатимуть, чи теж буде три дні моровиця в твоїм Краї? Подумай тепер та й ріши, яке слово верну я Тому, Хто послав мене.

14 A nd David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Jehovah; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.

І сказав Давид до Ґада: Сильно скорблю я! Нехай же впадемо ми до Господньої руки, бо велике Його милосердя, а в руку людську нехай я не впаду!...

15 S o Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.

І дав Господь моровицю в Ізраїлі від ранку й аж до часу умовлення, і померло з народу від Дану й аж до Беер-Шеви сімдесят тисяч чоловіка...

16 A nd when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

І простяг той Ангол свою руку на Єрусалима, щоб вигубити його, та Господь пожалував щодо того зла. І сказав Він до Ангола, що вигубляв серед народу: Забагато тепер, попусти свою руку! А Ангол Господній був при тоці євусеянина Аравни.

17 A nd David spake unto Jehovah when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

І сказав Давид до Господа, коли побачив того Ангола, що побивав серед народу, і проказав: Я ось згрішив, і пішов проти Закону. А ці вівці, що зробили вони? Нехай же рука Твоя буде на мені та на домі батька мого!...

18 A nd Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

І прийшов того дня Ґад до Давида, та й сказав йому: Устань, постав Господеві жертівника на току євусеянина Аравни.

19 A nd David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.

І пішов Давид за словами Ґадовими, як наказав був Господь.

20 A nd Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

І виглянув Аравна, і побачив царя та його слуг, що йдуть до нього. І вийшов Аравна, і вклонився цареві обличчям своїм до землі.

21 A nd Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor of thee, to build an altar unto Jehovah, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

І сказав Аравна: Чого прийшов пан мій, цар, до свого раба? А Давид відказав: Купити від тебе цього тока, щоб збудувати жертівника для Господа, і буде стримана зараза від народу.

22 A nd Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood:

І сказав Аравна до Давида: Нехай пан мій, цар, візьме, і нехай принесе жертву, що добре в очах його. Дивися, ось худоба на цілопалення, а молотілки та ярма на дрова.

23 a ll this, O king, doth Araunah give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, Jehovah thy God accept thee.

Усе віддає Аравна, о царю, цареві. І сказав Аравна до царя: Господь, Бог твій, нехай уподобає Собі тебе!

24 A nd the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will verily buy it of thee at a price. Neither will I offer burnt-offerings unto Jehovah my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

І сказав цар до Аравни: Ні, бо тільки куплю від тебе за ціну, і не принесу дармо цілопалень Господеві, Богові моєму. І купив Давид тока й худобу за срібло п'ятидесяти шеклів.

25 A nd David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So Jehovah was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

І Давид збудував там жертівника для Господа, і приніс цілопалення та мирні жертви. І Господь був ублаганий для Краю, і була стримана зараза від Ізраїля.
