1 F inally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk, --that ye abound more and more.

А далі, браття, просимо вас та благаємо в Господі Ісусі, щоб, як прийняли ви від нас, як належить поводитись вам та догоджувати Богові, як ви й поводитеся, щоб у тому ще більше зростали!

2 F or ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

Бо ви знаєте, які вам накази дали ми Господом Ісусом.

3 F or this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication;

Бо це воля Божа, освячення ваше: щоб ви береглись від розпусти,

4 t hat each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor,

щоб кожен із вас умів тримати начиння своє в святості й честі,

5 n ot in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God;

а не в пристрасній похоті, як і погани, що Бога не знають.

6 t hat no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified.

Щоб ніхто не кривдив і не визискував брата свого в якійбудь справі, бо месник Господь за все це, як і перше казали ми вам та засвідчили.

7 F or God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification.

Бо покликав нас Бог не на нечистість, але на освячення.

8 T herefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you.

Отож, хто оце відкидає, зневажає не людину, а Бога, що нам також дав Свого Духа Святого.

9 B ut concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another;

А про братолюбство немає потреби писати до вас, бо самі ви від Бога навчені любити один одного,

10 f or indeed ye do it toward all the brethren that are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more;

бо чините те всім братам у всій Македонії. Благаємо ж, браття, ми вас, щоб у цьому ще більш ви зростали,

11 a nd that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your hands, even as we charged you;

і пильно дбали жити спокійно, займатися своїми справами та заробляти своїми руками, як ми вам наказували,

12 t hat ye may walk becomingly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing.

щоб ви перед чужими пристойно поводилися, і щоб ні від кого не залежали!

13 B ut we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.

Не хочу ж я, браття, щоб не відали ви про покійних, щоб ви не сумували, як і інші, що надії не мають.

14 F or if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Коли бо ми віруємо, що Ісус був умер і воскрес, так і покійних через Ісуса приведе Бог із Ним.

15 F or this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep.

Бо це ми вам кажемо словом Господнім, що ми, хто живе, хто полишений до приходу Господнього, ми не попередимо покійних.

16 F or the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first;

Сам бо Господь із наказом, при голосі Архангола та при Божій сурмі зійде з неба, і перше воскреснуть умерлі в Христі,

17 t hen we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

потім ми, що живемо й зостались, будемо схоплені разом із ними на хмарах на зустріч Господню на повітрі, і так завсіди будемо з Господом.

18 W herefore comfort one another with these words.

Отож, потішайте один одного цими словами!
