1 H ear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,

Для дириґетна хору. Синів Кореєвих. Псалом. (49-2) Слухайте це, всі народи, візьміть до ушей, усі мешканці всесвіту,

2 B oth low and high, Rich and poor together.

(49-3) і людські сини й сини мужів, разом багатий та вбогий,

3 M y mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

(49-4) мої уста казатимуть мудрість, думка ж серця мого розумність,

4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

(49-5) нахилю своє ухо до приказки, розв'яжу свою загадку лірою!

5 W herefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?

(49-6) Чому маю боятись у день лихоліття, як стане круг мене неправда моїх ошуканців,

6 T hey that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

(49-7) які на багатство своє покладають надію, і своїми достатками хваляться?

7 N one of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him;

(49-8) Але жодна людина не викупить брата, не дасть його викупу Богові,

8 ( For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;)

(49-9) бо викуп їхніх душ дорогий, і не перестане навіки,

9 T hat he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption.

(49-10) щоб міг він ще жити навіки й не бачити гробу!

10 F or he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.

(49-11) Та люди побачать, що мудрі вмирають так само, як гинуть невіглас та неук, і лишають для інших багатство своє...

11 T heir inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.

(49-12) Вони думають, ніби доми їхні навіки, місця їхнього замешкання з роду до роду, іменами своїми звуть землі,

12 B ut man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.

(49-13) та не зостається в пошані людина, подібна худобі, що гине!

13 T his their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah

(49-14) Така їхня дорога глупота для них, та за ними йдуть ті, хто кохає їхню думку. Села.

14 T hey are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it.

(49-15) Вони зійдуть в шеол, і смерть їх пасе, немов вівці, а праведники запанують над ними від рання; подоба їхня знищиться, шеол буде мешканням для них...

15 B ut God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah

(49-16) Та визволить Бог мою душу із влади шеолу, бо Він мене візьме! Села.

16 B e not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased.

(49-17) Не лякайся, коли багатіє людина, коли збільшується слава дому її,

17 F or when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.

(49-18) бо, вмираючи, не забере вона всього, її слава не піде за нею!

18 T hough while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,)

(49-19) Хоч вона свою душу за життя свого хвалить, і славлять тебе, як для себе ти чиниш добро,

19 H e shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light.

(49-20) вона прийде до роду батьків своїх, що світла вони не побачать навіки!

20 M an that is in honor, and understandeth not, Is like the beasts that perish.

(49-21) Людина в пошані, але нерозумна, подібна худобі, що гине!
