1 C omfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

Утішайте, втішайте народа Мого, говорить ваш Бог!

2 S peak ye comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.

Промовляйте до серця Єрусалиму, і закличте до нього, що виповнилась його доля тяжка, що вина йому вибачена, що він за свої всі гріхи вдвоє взяв з руки Господа!

3 T he voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.

Голос кличе: На пустині вготуйте дорогу Господню, в степу вирівняйте битий шлях Богу нашому!

4 E very valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain:

Хай підійметься всяка долина, і хай знизиться всяка гора та підгірок, і хай стане круте за рівнину, а пасма гірські за долину!

5 a nd the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.

І з'явиться слава Господня, і разом побачить її кожне тіло, бо уста Господні оце прорекли!

6 T he voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field.

Голос кличе: Звіщай! Я ж спитав: Про що буду звіщати? Всяке тіло трава, всяка ж слава як цвіт польовий:

7 T he grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass.

трава засихає, а квітка зів'яне, як подих Господній повіє на неї!... Справді, народ то трава:

8 T he grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God shall stand forever.

Трава засихає, а квітка зів'яне, Слово ж нашого Бога повіки стоятиме!

9 O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee up on a high mountain; O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold, your God!

На гору високу зберися собі, благовіснику Сіону, свого голоса сильно підвищ, благовіснику Єрусалиму! Підвищ, не лякайся, скажи містам Юди: Ось Бог ваш!

10 B ehold, the Lord Jehovah will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him: Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.

Ось прийде Господь, Бог, як сильний, і буде рамено Його панувати для Нього! Ось із Ним нагорода Його, а перед обличчям Його відплата Його.

11 H e will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and will gently lead those that have their young.

Він отару Свою буде пасти, як Пастир, раменом Своїм позбирає ягнята, і на лоні Своєму носитиме їх, дійняків же провадити буде!

12 W ho hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

Хто води поміряв своєю долонею, а п'ядею виміряв небо, і третиною міри обняв пил землі, і гори ті зважив вагою, а взгір'я шальками?

13 W ho hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

Хто Господнього Духа збагнув, і де та людина, що ради свої подавала Йому?

14 W ith whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

З ким радився Він, і той напоумив Його, та навчав путі права, і пізнання навчив був Його, і Його напоумив дороги розумної?

15 B ehold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: Behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

Таж народи як крапля з відра, а важать як порох на шальках! Таж Він острови підіймає, немов ту пилинку!

16 A nd Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering.

І Ливана не вистачить на запаління жертовне, не стане й звір'я його на цілопалення!

17 A ll the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

Насупроти Нього всі люди немов би ніщо, пораховані в Нього марнотою та порожнечею.

18 T o whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

І до кого вподобите Бога, і подобу яку ви поставите поруч із Ним?

19 T he image, a workman hath cast it, and the goldsmith overlayeth it with gold, and casteth for it silver chains.

Майстер божка відливає, золотар же його криє золотом, та виливає йому срібляні ланцюжки.

20 H e that is too impoverished for such an oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilful workman to set up a graven image, that shall not be moved.

Убогий на дара такого бере собі дерево, що не гниє, розшукує вправного майстра, щоб поставив божка, який не захитається.

21 H ave ye not known? have yet not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

Хіба ви не знаєте, чи ви не чули, чи вам не сповіщено здавна було, чи ви не зрозуміли підвалин землі?

22 I t is he that sitteth above the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;

Він Той, Хто сидить понад кругом землі, а мешканці її немов та сарана. Він небо простяг, мов тканину тонку, і розтягнув Він його, мов намета на мешкання.

23 t hat bringeth princes to nothing; that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

Він Той, Хто князів обертає в ніщо, робить суддів землі за марноту:

24 Y ea, they have not been planted; yea, they have not been sown; yea, their stock hath not taken root in the earth: moreover he bloweth upon them, and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.

вони не були ще посаджені, і не були ще посіяні, і пень їхній в землі ще не закорінився, та як тільки на них Він дмухнув, вони повсихали, і буря понесла їх, мов ту солому!

25 T o whom then will ye liken me, that I should be equal to him? saith the Holy One.

І до кого Мене прирівняєте, і йому буду рівний? говорить Святий.

26 L ift up your eyes on high, and see who hath created these, that bringeth out their host by number; he calleth them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

Підійміть у височину ваші очі й побачте, хто те все створив? Той, Хто зорі виводить за їхнім числом та кличе ім'ям їх усіх! І ніхто не загубиться через всесильність та всемогутність Його.

27 W hy sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and the justice due to me is passed away from my God?

Пощо говориш ти, Якове, і кажеш, Ізраїлю: Закрита дорога моя перед Господом, і від Бога мого відійшло моє право.

28 H ast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding.

Хіба ж ти не знаєш, або ти не чув: Бог відвічний Господь, що кінці землі Він створив? Він не змучується та не втомлюється, і не збагненний розум Його.

29 H e giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength.

Він змученому дає силу, а безсилому міць.

30 E ven the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

І помучаться хлопці й потомляться, і юнаки спотикнутись спіткнуться,

31 b ut they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

а ті, хто надію складає на Господа, силу відновлять, крила підіймуть, немов ті орли, будуть бігати і не потомляться, будуть ходити і не помучаться!
