1 A nd after Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in the hill-country of Ephraim.

І став по Авімелехові на спасіння Ізраїля Тола, син Пуї, сина Додового, муж Іссахарів. І він сидів у Шамірі в Єфремових горах.

2 A nd he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

І судив він Ізраїля двадцять і три роки, та й помер, і був похований в Шамірі.

3 A nd after him arose Jair, the Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty and two years.

І став по ньому Яір ґілеадеянин, і судив Ізраїля двадцять і два роки.

4 A nd he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth-jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

І було в нього тридцять синів, що їздили на тридцяти молодих ослах, а в них тридцять міст, їх кличуть аж до цього дня: Яірові села, що в ґілеадському краї.

5 A nd Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.

І помер Яір, і був похований в Камоні.

6 A nd the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served the Baalim, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook Jehovah, and served him not.

А Ізраїлеві сини й далі чинили зло в Господніх очах, і служили Ваалам та Астартам, і богам арамським, і богам сидонським, і богам моавським, і богам аммонських синів, і богам филистимським. І покинули вони Господа, і не служили Йому.

7 A nd the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon.

І запалився Господній гнів на Ізраїля, і Він передав їх в руку филистимлян та в руку синів Аммонових.

8 A nd they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel that year: eighteen years oppressed they all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

І вони били й мучили Ізраїлевих синів від того року, і гнобили вісімнадцять років усіх Ізраїлевих синів, що по той бік Йордану в аморейському краї, що в Ґілеаді.

9 A nd the children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.

І перейшли Аммонові сини Йордан, щоб воювати також з Юдою й з Веніямином та з Єфремовим домом. І Ізраїлеві було дуже тісно!

10 A nd the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah, saying, We have sinned against thee, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baalim.

І кликали Ізраїлеві сини до Господа, говорячи: Згрішили ми Тобі, бо ми покинули свого Бога, і служили Ваалам.

11 A nd Jehovah said unto the children of Israel, Did not I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

І сказав Господь до Ізраїлевих синів: Чи ж не спас Я вас від Єгипту, і від амореянина, і від Аммонових синів, і від филистимлян?

12 T he Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried unto me, and I saved you out of their hand.

А сидоняни, і Амалик, і Маон гнобили вас, і ви кликали до Мене, і Я спас вас від їхньої руки.

13 Y et ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will save you no more.

А ви полишили Мене, і служили іншим богам, тому більше не спасатиму вас.

14 G o and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.

Ідіть, і кличте до тих богів, що ви вибрали їх, вони спасуть вас у часі вашого утиску.

15 A nd the children of Israel said unto Jehovah, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day.

І сказали Ізраїлеві сини до Господа: Згрішили ми! Зроби Ти нам усе, як добре в очах Твоїх. Тільки спаси нас цього дня!

16 A nd they put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Jehovah; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

І повикидали вони з-поміж себе чужих богів, та й служили Господеві. І знетерпеливилась душа Його через Ізраїлеве страждання.

17 T hen the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah.

А Аммонові сини були скликані, та й таборували в Ґілеаді. І були зібрані Ізраїлеві сини, та й таборували в Міцпі.

18 A nd the people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

І сказали той народ та ґілеадські князі, один до одного: Хто той чоловік, що зачне воювати з Аммоновими синами? Він стане головою для всіх ґілеадських мешканців.
