1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

Я той муж, який бачив біду від жезла Його гніву,

2 H e hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.

Він провадив мене й допровадив до темряви, а не до світла...

3 S urely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day.

Лиш на мене все знову обертає руку Свою цілий день...

4 M y flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

Він виснажив тіло моє й мою шкіру, мої кості сторощив,

5 H e hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

обгородив Він мене, і мене оточив гіркотою та мукою,

6 H e hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

у темноті мене посадив, мов померлих давно...

7 H e hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.

Обгородив Він мене і не вийду, тяжкими вчинив Він кайдани мої...

8 Y ea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.

І коли я кричу й голошу, затикає Він вуха Свої на молитву мою...

9 H e hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked.

Камінням обтесаним обгородив Він дороги мої, повикривлював стежки мої...

10 H e is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

Він для мене ведмедем чатуючим став, немов лев той у сховищі!

11 H e hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.

Поплутав дороги мої та розшарпав мене, учинив Він мене опустошеним!

12 H e hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

Натягнув Свого лука й поставив мене, наче ціль для стріли,

13 H e hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.

пустив стріли до нирок моїх з Свого сагайдака...

14 I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day.

Для всього народу свого я став посміховиськом, глумливою піснею їхньою цілий день...

15 H e hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.

Наситив мене гіркотою, мене напоїв полином...

16 H e hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.

І стер мені зуби жорствою, до попелу кинув мене,

17 A nd thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity.

і душа моя спокій згубила, забув я добро...

18 A nd I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.

І сказав я: Загублена сила моя, та моє сподівання на Господа...

19 R emember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

Згадай про біду мою й муку мою, про полин та отруту,

20 M y soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

душа моя згадує безперестанку про це, і гнеться в мені...

21 T his I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.

Оце я нагадую серцеві своєму, тому то я маю надію:

22 I t is of Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

Це милість Господня, що ми не погинули, бо не покінчилось Його милосердя,

23 T hey are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.

нове воно кожного ранку, велика бо вірність Твоя!

24 J ehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Господь це мій уділ, говорить душа моя, тому я надію на Нього складаю!

25 J ehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

Господь добрий для тих, хто надію на Нього кладе, для душі, що шукає Його!

26 I t is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah.

Добре, коли людина в мовчанні надію кладе на спасіння Господнє.

27 I t is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

Добре для мужа, як носить ярмо в своїй молодості,

28 L et him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him.

нехай він самітно сидить і мовчить, як поклав Він на нього його;

29 L et him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.

хай закриє він порохом уста свої, може є ще надія;

30 L et him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.

хай щоку тому підставляє, хто його б'є, своєю ганьбою насичується...

31 F or the Lord will not cast off for ever.

Бо Господь не навіки ж покине!

32 F or though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

Бо хоч Він і засмутить кого, проте змилується за Своєю великою милістю,

33 F or he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

бо не мучить Він з серця Свого, і не засмучує людських синів.

34 T o crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

Щоб топтати під своїми ногами всіх в'язнів землі,

35 T o turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

щоб перед обличчям Всевишнього право людини зігнути,

36 T o subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

щоб гнобити людину у справі судовій його, оцього не має на оці Господь!

37 W ho is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

Хто то скаже і станеться це, як Господь того не наказав?

38 O ut of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?

Хіба не виходить усе з уст Всевишнього, зле та добре?

39 W herefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

Чого ж нарікає людина жива? Нехай скаржиться кожен на гріх свій.

40 L et us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

Пошукаймо доріг своїх та дослідімо, і вернімось до Господа!

41 L et us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

підіймімо своє серце та руки до Бога на небі!

42 W e have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.

Спроневірились ми й неслухняними стали, тому не пробачив Ти нам,

43 T hou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

закрився Ти гнівом і гнав нас, убивав, не помилував,

44 T hou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.

закрив Себе хмарою, щоб до Тебе молитва моя не дійшла...

45 T hou hast made us an off-scouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.

Сміттям та огидою нас Ти вчинив між народами,

46 A ll our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

наші всі вороги пороззявляли на нас свого рота,

47 F ear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction.

страх та яма на нас поприходили, руїна й погибіль...

48 M ine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

Моє око спливає потоками водними через нещастя дочки мого люду...

49 M ine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

Виливається око моє безупинно, нема бо перерви,

50 T ill Jehovah look down, and behold from heaven.

аж поки не зглянеться та не побачить Господь із небес,

51 M ine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.

моє око вчиняє журбу для моєї душі через дочок усіх мого міста...

52 T hey have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause.

Ловлячи, ловлять мене, немов птаха, мої вороги безпричинно,

53 T hey have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me.

життя моє в яму замкнули вони, і каміннями кинули в мене...

54 W aters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off.

Пливуть мені води на голову, я говорю: Вже погублений я!...

55 I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon.

Кликав я, Господи, Ймення Твоє із найглибшої ями,

56 T hou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

Ти чуєш мій голос, не заховуй же вуха Свого від зойку мого, від благання мого!

57 T hou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.

Ти близький того дня, коли кличу Тебе, Ти говориш: Не бійся!

58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

За душу мою Ти змагався, о Господи, життя моє викупив Ти.

59 O Jehovah, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause.

Ти бачиш, о Господи, кривду мою, розсуди ж Ти мій суд!

60 T hou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me.

Усю їхню помсту Ти бачиш, всі задуми їхні на мене,

61 T hou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their devices against me,

Ти чуєш, о Господи, їхні наруги, всі задуми їхні на мене,

62 T he lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

мову повстанців на мене та їхнє буркотіння на мене ввесь день...

63 B ehold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song.

Побач їхнє сидіння та їхнє вставання, як завжди глумлива їхня пісня!

64 T hou wilt render unto them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands.

Заплати їм, о Господи, згідно з чином їхніх рук!

65 T hou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them.

Подай їм темноту на серце, прокляття Твоє нехай буде на них!

66 T hou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah.

Своїм гнівом жени їх, і вигуби їх з-під Господніх небес!
