1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

Eu sînt omul care a văzut suferinţa supt nuiaua urgiei Lui.

2 H e hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.

El m'a dus, m'a mînat în întunerec, şi nu în lumină.

3 S urely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day.

Numai împotriva mea îşi întinde şi îşi întoarce mîna, toată ziua.

4 M y flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

Mi -a prăpădit carnea şi pielea, şi mi -a zdrobit oasele.

5 H e hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

A făcut zid împrejurul meu, şi m'a înconjurat cu otravă şi durere.

6 H e hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

Mă aşează în întunerec, ca pe cei morţi pentru totdeauna.

7 H e hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.

M'a înconjurat cu un zid, ca să nu ies; m'a pus în lanţuri grele.

8 Y ea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.

Să tot strig şi să tot cer ajutor, căci El tot nu-mi primeşte rugăciunea.

9 H e hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked.

Mi -a astupat calea cu pietre cioplite, şi mi -a strîmbat cărările.

10 H e is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

Mă pîndeşte ca un urs şi ca un leu într'un loc ascuns.

11 H e hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.

Mi -a abătut căile, şi apoi s'a aruncat pe mine, şi m'a pustiit.

12 H e hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

Şi -a încordat arcul, şi m'a pus ţintă săgeţii Lui.

13 H e hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.

În rărunchi mi -a înfipt săgeţile din tolba Lui.

14 I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day.

Am ajuns de rîsul poporului meu, şi toată ziua sînt pus în cîntece de batjocură de ei.

15 H e hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.

M'a săturat de amărăciune, m'a îmbătat cu pelin.

16 H e hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.

Mi -a sfărîmat dinţii cu pietre, m'a acoperit cu cenuşă.

17 A nd thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity.

Mi-ai luat pacea, şi nu mai cunosc fericirea.

18 A nd I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.

Şi am zis:,, S'a dus puterea mea de viaţă, şi nu mai am nici o nădejde în Domnul.``

19 R emember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

Gîndeşte-Te la necazul şi suferinţa mea, la pelin şi la otravă!``

20 M y soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

Cînd îşi aduce aminte sufletul meu de ele, este mîhnit în mine.

21 T his I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.

Iată ce mai gîndesc în inima mea, şi iată ce mă face să mai trag nădejde:

22 I t is of Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

Bunătăţile Domnului nu s'au sfîrşit, îndurările Lui nu sînt la capăt,

23 T hey are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.

ci se înoiesc în fiecare dimineaţă. Şi credincioşia Ta este atît de mare!

24 J ehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Domnul este partea mea de moştenire,`` zice sufletul meu; de aceea nădăjduiesc în El.

25 J ehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

Domnul este bun cu cine nădăjduieşte în El, cu sufletul care -L caută.

26 I t is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah.

Bine este să aştepţi în tăcere ajutorul Domnului.

27 I t is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

Este bine pentru om să poarte un jug în tinereţa lui.

28 L et him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him.

Să stea singur şi să tacă, pentrucă Domnul i l -a pus pe grumaz;

29 L et him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.

să-şi umple gura cu ţărînă, şi să nu-şi peardă nădejdea;

30 L et him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.

să dea obrazul celui ce -l loveşte, şi să se sature de ocări.

31 F or the Lord will not cast off for ever.

Căci Domnul nu leapădă pentru totdeauna.

32 F or though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

Ci, cînd mîhneşte pe cineva, Se îndură iarăş de el, după îndurarea Lui cea mare:

33 F or he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

căci El nu necăjeşte cu plăcere, nici nu mîhneşte bucuros pe copiii oamenilor.

34 T o crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

Cînd se calcă în picioarele toţi prinşii de război ai unei ţări,

35 T o turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

cînd se calcă dreptatea omenească în faţa Celui Prea Înalt,

36 T o subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

cînd este nedreptăţit un om în pricina lui, nu vede Domnul?

37 W ho is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

Cine a spus şi s'a întîmplat ceva fără porunca Domnului?

38 O ut of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?

Nu iese din gura Celui Prea Înalt răul şi binele?

39 W herefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

De ce să se plîngă omul cît trăieşte? Ficare să se plîngă mai bine de păcatele lui!

40 L et us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

Să luăm seama la umbletele noastre, să le cercetăm, şi să ne întoarcem la Domnul.

41 L et us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

Să ne înălţăm şi inimile cu mînile spre Dumnezeu din cer, zicînd:

42 W e have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.

Am păcătuit, am fost îndărătnici, şi nu ne-ai iertat!``

43 T hou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

În mînia Ta, Te-ai ascuns, şi ne-ai urmărit, ai ucis fără milă.

44 T hou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.

Te-ai învăluit într'un nor, ca să nu străbată la Tine rugăciunea noastră.

45 T hou hast made us an off-scouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.

Ne-ai făcut de batjocură şi de ocară printre popoare.

46 A ll our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

Toţi vrăjmaşii noştri deschid gura împotriva noastră.

47 F ear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction.

De groază şi de groapă am avut parte, de prăpăd şi pustiire.

48 M ine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

Şivoaie de apă îmi curg din ochi din pricina prăpădului fiicei poporului meu.

49 M ine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

Mi se topeşte ochiul în lacrămi, necurmat şi fără răgaz,

50 T ill Jehovah look down, and behold from heaven.

pînăce Domnul va privi din cer şi va vedea.

51 M ine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.

Mă doare ochiul de plîns pentru toate fiicele cetăţii mele.

52 T hey have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause.

Cei ce mă urăsc fără temei, m'au gonit ca pe o pasăre.

53 T hey have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me.

Voiau să-mi nimicească viaţa într'o groapă, şi au aruncat cu pietre în mine.

54 W aters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off.

Mi-au năvălit apele peste cap şi ziceam:,, Sînt perdut!``

55 I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon.

Dar am chemat Numele Tău, Doamne, din fundul gropii.

56 T hou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

Tu mi-ai auzit glasul:,, Nu-Ţi astupa urechea la suspinurile şi strigătele mele.``

57 T hou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.

În ziua cînd Te-am chemat, Te-ai apropiat, şi ai zis:,, Nu te teme!``

58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

Doamne, Tu ai apărat pricina sufletului meu, mi-ai răscumpărat viaţa!

59 O Jehovah, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause.

Doamne, ai văzut apăsarea mea: fă-mi dreptate.

60 T hou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me.

Ai văzut toate răzbunările lor, toate uneltirile lor împotriva mea.

61 T hou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their devices against me,

Doamne, le-ai auzit ocările, toate uneltirile împotriva mea,

62 T he lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

cuvîntările protivnicilor mei, şi planurile pe cari le urzeau în fiecare zi împotriva mea.

63 B ehold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song.

Uită-Te cînd stau ei jos sau cînd se scoală. Eu sînt cîntecul lor de batjocură.

64 T hou wilt render unto them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands.

Răsplăteşte-le, Doamne, după faptele mînilor lor!

65 T hou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them.

Împetreşte-le inima, şi aruncă blestemul Tău împotriva lor!

66 T hou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah.

Urmăreşte -i, în mînia Ta, şi şterge -i de supt ceruri, Doamne!``
