1 T he word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he wrote these word in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

Cuvîntul pe care l -a spus proorocul Ieremia către Baruc, fiul lui Neriia, cînd a scris într'o carte cuvintele acestea, după spusele lui Ieremia, în al patrulea an al lui Ioiachim, fiul lui Iosia, împăratul lui Iuda, sună astfel:

2 T hus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch:

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, despre tine, Baruc:

3 T hou didst say, Woe is me now! for Jehovah hath added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.

Tu zici:, Vai de mine! căci Domnul a adus întristare peste durerea mea; îmi sleiesc puterile suspinînd, şi nu găsesc odihnă!`

4 T hus shalt thou say unto him, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.

Spune -i:, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Iată că ce am zidit, voi dărîma; ce am sădit, voi smulge, şi anume ţara aceasta.

5 A nd seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not; for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith Jehovah; but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

Şi tu umbli după lucruri mari? Nu umbla după ele! Căci iată, voi aduce nenorocirea peste orice făptură, zice Domnul, dar ţie îţi voi da ca pradă de război viaţa ta, în toate locurile unde vei merge.``
