1 I f a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

Dacă un om fură un bou sau o oaie, şi -l taie sau îl vinde, să dea cinci boi pentru boul furat şi patru oi pentru oaia furată.

2 I f the thief be found breaking in, and be smitten so that he dieth, there shall be no bloodguiltiness for him.

Dacă hoţul este prins spărgînd, şi e lovit şi moare, cel ce l -a lovit nu va fi vinovat de omor faţă de el;

3 I f the sun be risen upon him, there shall be bloodguiltiness for him; he shall make restitution: if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

dar dacă a răsărit soarele, va fi vinovat de omor faţă de el. Hoţul trebuie să dea înapoi ce este dator să dea; dacă n'are nimic, să fie vîndut rob, ca despăgubire pentru furtul lui;

4 I f the theft be found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep, he shall pay double.

dacă ceeace a furat, fie bou, fie măgar, sau oaie, se găseşte încă viu în mînile lui, să dea îndoit înapoi.

5 I f a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall let his beast loose, and it feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.

Dacă cineva face stricăciune într-un ogor sau într'o vie, şi îşi lasă vita să pască pe ogorul altuia, să dea ca despăgubire cel mai bun rod din ogorul şi via lui.

6 I f fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

Dacă izbucneşte un foc şi întîlneşte mărăcini în cale, şi arde grîul în snopi sau în picioare, sau cîmpul, cel ce a pus foc să fie silit să dea o despăgubire deplină.

7 I f a man shall deliver unto his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, he shall pay double.

Dacă un om dă altuia bani sau unelte spre păstrare, şi le fură cineva din casa acestuia din urmă, hoţul trebuie să întoarcă îndoit, dacă va fi găsit.

8 I f the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall come near unto God, to see whether he have not put his hand unto his neighbor's goods.

Dacă hoţul nu se găseşte, stăpînul casei să se înfăţişeze înaintea lui Dumnezeu, ca să spună că n'a pus mîna pe avutul aproapelui său.

9 F or every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, whereof one saith, This is it, the cause of both parties shall come before God; he whom God shall condemn shall pay double unto his neighbor.

În orice pricină de înşelăciune cu privire la un bou, un măgar, o oaie, o haină, sau un lucru pierdut, despre care se va zice:, Uite -l!` -pricina amîndoror părţilor să meargă pînă la Dumnezeu; acela, pe care -l va osîndi Dumnezeu, trebuie să întoarcă îndoit aproapelui său.

10 I f a man deliver unto his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:

Dacă un om dă altuia un măgar, un bou, o oaie, sau un dobitoc, oarecare să i -l păstreze, şi dobitocul moare, îşi strică un mădular, sau e luat cu sila dela el, fără să fi văzut cineva,

11 t he oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, whether he hath not put his hand unto his neighbor's goods; and the owner thereof shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.

să se facă un jurămînt în Numele Domnului între cele două părţi; şi cel ce a păstrat dobitocul, va mărturisi că n'a pus mîna pe avutul aproapelui său; stăpînul dobitocului va primi jurămîntul acesta, şi celalt nu va fi dator să i -l înlocuiască.

12 B ut if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.

Dar dacă dobitocul a fost furat dela el, va fi dator faţă de stăpînul lui să i -l înlocuiască.

13 I f it be torn in pieces, let him bring it for witness: he shall not make good that which was torn.

Dacă dobitocul a fost sfăşiat de fiare sălbatice, îl va aduce ca dovadă, şi nu va fi dator să -i înlocuiască dobitocul sfăşiat.

14 A nd if a man borrow aught of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.

Dacă un om împrumută altuia o vită, şi vita îşi strică un mădular sau moare în lipsa stăpînului ei, va trebui s'o plăteacă.

15 I f the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be a hired thing, it came for its hire.

Dacă stăpînul e de faţă, nu i -o va plăti. Dacă vita a fost dată cu chirie, preţul chiriei va fi deajuns.

16 A nd if a man entice a virgin that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.

Dacă un om înşală pe o fată nelogodită, şi se culcă cu ea, îi va plăti zestrea şi o va lua de nevastă.

17 I f her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

Dacă tatăl nu vrea să i -o dea, el va plăti în argint preţul zestrei cuvenite fetelor.

18 T hou shalt not suffer a sorceress to live.

Pe vrăjitoare să n'o laşi să trăiască.

19 W hosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.

Oricine se culcă cu un dobitoc, să fie pedepsit cu moartea.

20 H e that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto Jehovah only, shall be utterly destroyed.

Cine aduce jertfe altor dumnezei decît Domnului singur, să fie nimicit cu desăvîrşire.

21 A nd a sojourner shalt thou not wrong, neither shalt thou oppress him: for ye were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

Să nu chinuieşti pe străin, şi să nu -l asupreşti, căci şi voi aţi fost străini în ţara Egiptului.

22 Y e shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

Să nu asupreşti pe văduvă, nici pe orfan.

23 I f thou afflict them at all, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

Dacă -i asupreşti, şi ei strigă la Mine după ajutor, Eu le voi auzi strigătele;

24 a nd my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

mînia Mea se va aprinde, şi vă voi nimici cu sabia; nevestele voastre vor rămînea văduve, şi copiii voştri vor rămînea orfani.

25 I f thou lend money to any of my people with thee that is poor, thou shalt not be to him as a creditor; neither shall ye lay upon him interest.

Dacă împrumuţi bani vreunuia din poporul Meu, săracului care este cu tine, să nu fii faţă de el ca un cămătar, şi să nu ceri camătă dela el.

26 I f thou at all take thy neighbor's garment to pledge, thou shalt restore it unto him before the sun goeth down:

Dacă iei zălog haina aproapelui tău, să i -o dai înapoi înainte de apusul soarelui;

27 f or that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? And it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

căci este singura lui învelitoare, este haina cu care îşi înveleşte trupul: cu ce are să se culce? Dacă strigă spre Mine după ajutor, Eu îl voi auzi, căci Eu sînt milostiv.

28 T hou shalt not revile God, nor curse a ruler of thy people.

Să nu huleşti pe Dumnezeu, şi să nu blestemi pe mai marele poporului tău.

29 T hou shalt not delay to offer of thy harvest, and of the outflow of thy presses. The first-born of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

Să nu pregeţi să-Mi aduci pîrga secerişului tău şi a culesului viei tale. Să-Mi dai pe întîiul născut din fiii tăi.

30 L ikewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with its dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.

Să-Mi dai şi întîiul născut al vacii tale şi al oii tale; să rămînă şapte zile cu mamă-sa, iar în ziua a opta să Mi -l aduci.

31 A nd ye shall be holy men unto me: therefore ye shall not eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.

Să-Mi fiţi nişte oameni sfinţi. Să nu mîncaţi carne sfîşiată de fiare pe cîmp, ci s'o aruncaţi la cîni.
