1 U nto thee do I lift up mine eyes, O thou that sittest in the heavens.

(O cîntare a treptelor.) La Tine îmi ridic ochii, la Tine, care locuieşti în ceruri.

2 B ehold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid unto the hand of her mistress; So our eyes look unto Jehovah our God, Until he have mercy upon us.

Cum se uită ochii robilor la mîna stăpînilor lor, şi ochii roabei la mîna stăpînei ei, aşa se uită ochii noştri la Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, pînă va avea milă de noi.

3 H ave mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us; For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

Ai milă de noi, Doamne, ai milă de noi, căci sîntem sătui de dispreţ;

4 O ur soul is exceedingly filled With the scoffing of those that are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud.

ne este sătul sufletul de batjocurile celor îngîmfaţi, de dispreţul celor trufaşi.
