1 H aving therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Deci, fiindcă avem astfel de făgăduinţe, prea iubiţilor, să ne curăţim de orice întinăciune a cărnii şi a duhului, şi să ne ducem sfinţirea pînă la capăt, în frica de Dumnezeu.

2 O pen your hearts to us: we wronged no man, we corrupted no man, we took advantage of no man.

Înţelegeţi-ne bine! N'am nedreptăţit pe nimeni, n'am vătămat pe nimeni, n'am înşelat pe nimeni.

3 I say it not to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die together and live together.

Nu spun aceste lucruri ca să vă osîndesc, căci am spus mai înainte că sînteţi în inimile noastre pe viaţă şi pe moarte.

4 G reat is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying on your behalf: I am filled with comfort, I overflow with joy in all our affliction.

Am o mare încredere în voi. Am tot dreptul să mă laud cu voi. Sînt plin de mîngîiere, îmi saltă inima de bucurie în toate necazurile noastre.

5 F or even when we were come into Macedonia our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

Căci şi după venirea noastră în Macedonia, trupul nostru n'a avut nicio odihnă. Am fost necăjiţi în toate chipurile: de afară lupte, dinlăuntru temeri.

6 N evertheless he that comforteth the lowly, even God, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

Dar Dumnezeu, care mîngîie pe cei smeriţi, ne -a mîngîiat prin venirea lui Tit.

7 a nd not by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewith he was comforted in you, while he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced yet more.

Şi nu numai prin venirea lui, ci şi prin mîngîierea cu care a fost mîngîiat şi el de voi. El ne -a istorisit despre dorinţa voastră arzătoare, despre lacrămile voastre, despre rîvna voastră pentru mine, aşa că bucuria mea a fost şi mai mare.

8 F or though I made you sorry with my epistle, I do not regret it: though I did regret it (for I see that that epistle made you sorry, though but for a season),

Măcar că v'am întristat prin epistola mea, nu-mi pare rău; şi chiar dacă mi-ar fi părut rău-căci văd că epistola aceea v'a întristat (măcarcă pentru puţină vreme) -

9 I now rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye were made sorry unto repentance; for ye were made sorry after a godly sort, that ye might suffer loss by us in nothing.

totuş, acum mă bucur, nu pentrucă aţi fost întristaţi, ci pentrucă întristarea voastră v'a adus la pocăinţă. Căci aţi fost întristaţi după voia lui Dumnezeu, ca să n'aveţi nicio pagubă din partea noastră.

10 F or godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, a repentance which bringeth no regret: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

În adevăr, cînd întristarea este după voia lui Dumnezeu, aduce o pocăinţă care duce la mîntuire, şi de care cineva nu se căieşte niciodată; pe cînd întristarea lumii aduce moartea.

11 F or behold, this selfsame thing, that ye were made sorry after a godly sort, what earnest care it wrought in you, yea what clearing of yourselves, yea what indignation, yea what fear, yea what longing, yea what zeal, yea what avenging! In everything ye approved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

Căci uite, tocmai întristarea aceasta a voastră după voia lui Dumnezeu, ce frămîntare a trezit în voi! Şi ce cuvinte de desvinovăţire! Ce mînie! Ce frică! Ce dorinţă aprinsă! Ce rîvnă! Ce pedeapsă! În toate voi aţi arătat că sînteţi curaţi în privinţa aceasta.

12 S o although I wrote unto you, I wrote not for his cause that did the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered the wrong, but that your earnest care for us might be made manifest unto you in the sight of God.

Aşa că, dacă v'am scris nu v'am scris nici din pricina celuice a făcut ocara, nici din pricina celui ce a suferit ocara, ci ca să se arate marea noastră purtare de grijă pentru voi înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

13 T herefore we have been comforted: And in our comfort we joyed the more exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because his spirit hath been refreshed by you all.

De aceea am fost mîngîiaţi. Dar, pe lîngă mîngîierea aceasta a noastră, ne-am bucurat şi mai mult de bucuria lui Tit, al cărui duh a fost răcorit de voi toţi.

14 F or if in anything I have gloried to him on your behalf, I was not put to shame; but as we spake all things to you in truth, so our glorying also which I made before Titus was found to be truth.

Şi dacă m'am lăudat puţin cu voi înaintea lui, n'am fost dat de ruşine. Ci, după cum în orice lucru v'am spus adevărul, tot aşa şi lauda noastră cu voi înaintea lui Tit, s'a adeverit.

15 A nd his affection is more abundantly toward you, while he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

El are o şi mai mare dragoste pentru voi, cînd îşi aduce aminte de ascultarea voastră a tuturor, şi de primirea pe care i-aţi făcut -o, cu frică şi cu cutremur.

16 I rejoice that in everything I am of good courage concerning you.

Mă bucur că mă pot încrede în voi în toate privinţele.
