1 T he words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.

Cuvintele împăratului Lemuel. Învăţătura pe care i -o dădea mamă-sa.

2 W hat, my son? and what, O son of my womb? And what, O son of my vows?

Ce să-ţi spun, fiule? Ce să-ţi spun fiul trupului meu? Ce să-ţi spun, fiule, rodul juruinţelor mele?

3 G ive not thy strength unto women, Nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

Nu-ţi da femeilor vlaga, şi desmierdările tale celor ce pierd pe împăraţi.

4 I t is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to say, Where is strong drink?

Nu se cade împăraţilor, Lemuele, nu se cade împăraţilor să bea vin, nici voivozilor să umble după băuturi tari;

5 L est they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the justice due to any that is afflicted.

ca nu cumva, bînd, să uite legea, şi să calce drepturile tuturor celor nenorociţi.

6 G ive strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, And wine unto the bitter in soul:

Daţi băuturi tari celui ce piere, şi vin, celui cu sufletul amărît;

7 L et him drink, and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.

ca să bea să-şi uite sărăcia, şi să nu-şi mai aducă aminte de necazurile lui. -

8 O pen thy mouth for the dumb, In the cause of all such as are left desolate.

Deschide-ţi gura pentru cel mut, pentru pricina tuturor celor părăsiţi!

9 O pen thy mouth, judge righteously, And minister justice to the poor and needy.

Deschide-ţi gura, judecă cu dreptate, şi apără pe cel nenorocit şi pe cel lipsit.

10 A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies.

Cine poate găsi o femeie cinstită? Ea este mai de preţ decît mărgăritarele.

11 T he heart of her husband trusteth in her, And he shall have no lack of gain.

Inima bărbatului se încrede în ea, şi nu duce lipsă de venituri.

12 S he doeth him good and not evil All the days of her life.

Ea îi face bine, şi nu rău, în toate zilele vieţii sale.

13 S he seeketh wool and flax, And worketh willingly with her hands.

Ea face rost de lînă şi de in, şi lucrează cu mîni harnice.

14 S he is like the merchant-ships; She bringeth her bread from afar.

Ea este ca o corabie de negoţ; de departe îşi aduce pînea.

15 S he riseth also while it is yet night, And giveth food to her household, And their task to her maidens.

Ea se scoală cînd este încă noapte, şi dă hrană casei sale, şi împarte lucrul de peste zi slujnicelor sale.

16 S he considereth a field, and buyeth it; With the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Se gîndeşte la un ogor, şi -l cumpără; din rodul muncii ei sădeşte o vie. -

17 S he girdeth her loins with strength, And maketh strong her arms.

Ea îşi încinge mijlocul cu putere, şi îşi oţeleşte braţele.

18 S he perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable: Her lamp goeth not out by night.

Vede că munca îi merge bine, lumina ei nu se stinge noaptea.

19 S he layeth her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle.

Ea pune mîna pe furcă, şi degetele ei ţin fusul.

20 S he stretcheth out her hand to the poor; Yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

Ea îşi întinde mîna către cel nenorocit, îşi întinde braţul către cel lipsit.

21 S he is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet.

Nu se teme de zăpadă pentru casa ei, căci toată casa ei este îmbrăcată cu cărmiziu.

22 S he maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

Ea îşi face învelitori, are haine de in supţire şi purpură.

23 H er husband is known in the gates, When he sitteth among the elders of the land.

Bărbatul ei este bine văzut la porţi, cînd şade cu bătrînii ţării.

24 S he maketh linen garments and selleth them, And delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Ea face cămăşi, şi le vinde, şi dă cingători negustorului.

25 S trength and dignity are her clothing; And she laugheth at the time to come.

Ea este îmbrăcată cu tărie şi slavă, şi rîde de ziua de mîne.

26 S he openeth her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her tongue.

Ea deschide gura cu înţelepciune, şi învăţături plăcute îi sînt pe limbă.

27 S he looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness.

Ea veghează asupra celor ce se petrec în casa ei, şi nu mănîncă pînea lenevirii.

28 H er children rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her, saying:

Fiii ei se scoală, şi o numesc fericită; bărbatul ei se scoală, şi -i aduce laude zicînd:

29 M any daughters have done worthily, But thou excellest them all.

Multe fete au o purtare cinstită, dar tu le întreci pe toate.``

30 G race is deceitful, and beauty is vain; But a woman that feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.

Desmerdările sînt înşelătoare, şi frumuseţa este deşartă, dar femeia care se teme de Domnul va fi lăudată.

31 G ive her of the fruit of her hands; And let her works praise her in the gates.

Răsplătiţi -o cu rodul muncii ei, şi faptele ei s'o laude la porţile cetăţii
