1 H old not thy peace, O God of my praise;

(Către mai marele cîntăreţilor. Un psalm al lui David.) Dumnezeul laudei mele, nu tăcea!

2 F or the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit have they opened against me: They have spoken unto me with a lying tongue.

Căci protivnicii au deschis împotriva mea o gură rea şi înşelătoare, îmi vorbesc cu o limbă mincinoasă,

3 T hey have compassed me about also with words of hatred, And fought against me without a cause.

mă înconjoară cu cuvîntări pline de ură, şi se războiesc cu mine fără temei.

4 F or my love they are my adversaries: But I give myself unto prayer.

Pe cînd eu îi iubesc, ei îmi sînt protivnici; dar eu alerg la rugăciune.

5 A nd they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love.

Ei îmi întorc rău pentru bine, şi ură pentru dragostea mea.

6 S et thou a wicked man over him; And let an adversary stand at his right hand.

Pe vrăjmaşul meu pune -l supt stăpînirea unui om rău, şi un pîrîş să stea la dreapta lui!

7 W hen he is judged, let him come forth guilty; And let his prayer be turned into sin.

Cînd va fi judecat, să fie găsit vinovat, şi rugăciunea lui să treacă drept un păcat!

8 L et his days be few; And let another take his office.

Puţine să -i fie zilele la număr, şi slujba să i -o ia altul!

9 L et his children be fatherless, And his wife a widow.

Să -i rămînă copiii orfani, şi nevastă-sa văduvă!

10 L et his children be vagabonds, and beg; And let them seek their bread out of their desolate places.

Copiii lui să umble fără niciun căpătîi şi să cerşească, să-şi caute pînea departe de locuinţa lor dărîmată!

11 L et the extortioner catch all that he hath; And let strangers make spoil of his labor.

Cel ce l -a împrumutat, să -i pună mîna pe tot ce are, şi străinii să -i jăfuiască rodul muncii lui!

12 L et there be none to extend kindness unto him; Neither let there be any to have pity on his fatherless children.

Nimeni să nu mai ţină la el, şi nimeni să n'aibă milă de orfanii lui!

13 L et his posterity be cut off; In the generation following let their name be blotted out.

Urmaşii lui să fie nimiciţi, şi să li se stîngă numele în neamul următor!

14 L et the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with Jehovah; And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

Nelegiuirea părinţilor săi să rămînă ca aducere aminte înaintea Domnului, şi să nu se şteargă păcatul mamei lui!

15 L et them be before Jehovah continually, That he may cut off the memory of them from the earth;

Domnul să -i aibă totdeauna înaintea ochilor, ca să le şteargă pomenirea de pe pămînt,

16 B ecause he remembered not to show kindness, But persecuted the poor and needy man, And the broken in heart, to slay them.

pentrucă nu şi -a adus aminte să facă îndurare, pentrucă a prigonit pe cel nenorocit şi pe cel lipsit, pînă acolo încît să omoare pe omul cu inima zdrobită!

17 Y ea, he loved cursing, and it came unto him; And he delighted not in blessing, and it was far from him.

Îi plăcea blestemul: să cadă asupra lui! Nu -i plăcea binecuvîntarea: să se depărteze de el!

18 H e clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment, And it came into his inward parts like water, And like oil into his bones.

Se îmbracă cu blestemul cum se îmbracă cu haina lui, îi pătrunde ca apa înlăuntrul lui, ca untdelemnul în oase!

19 L et it be unto him as the raiment wherewith he covereth himself, And for the girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

Deaceea, să -i slujească de veşmînt ca să se acopere, de încingătoare cu care să fie totdeauna încins!

20 T his is the reward of mine adversaries from Jehovah, And of them that speak evil against my soul.

Aceasta să fie, din partea Domnului, plata vrăjmaşilor mei, şi a celor ce vorbesc cu răutate de mine!

21 B ut deal thou with me, O Jehovah the Lord, for thy name's sake: Because thy lovingkindness is good, deliver thou me;

Iar Tu, Doamne, Dumnezeule, lucrează pentru mine din pricina Numelui Tău, căci mare este bunătatea ta; izbăveşte-mă!

22 F or I am poor and needy, And my heart is wounded within me.

Sînt nenorocit şi lipsit, şi îmi e rănită inima înlăuntrul meu.

23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.

Pier ca umbra gata să treacă, sînt izgonit ca o lăcustă.

24 M y knees are weak through fasting; And my flesh faileth of fatness.

Mi-au slăbit genunchii de post, şi mi s'a sleit trupul de slăbiciune.

25 I am become also a reproach unto them: When they see me, they shake their head.

Am ajuns de ocară lor; cînd mă privesc ei, dau din cap.

26 H elp me, O Jehovah my God; Oh save me according to thy lovingkindness:

Ajută-mi, Doamne, Dumnezeul meu! Scapă-mă prin bunătatea Ta!

27 T hat they may know that this is thy hand; That thou, Jehovah, hast done it.

Şi să ştie că mîna Ta, că Tu, Doamne, ai făcut lucrul acesta!

28 L et them curse, but bless thou: When they arise, they shall be put to shame, But thy servant shall rejoice.

Măcar că ei blastămă, Tu binecuvintează; măcar că se ridică ei împotriva mea, vor fi înfruntaţi, iar robul Tău se va bucura.

29 L et mine adversaries be clothed with dishonor, And let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

Protivnicii mei să se îmbrace cu ocara, să se acopere cu ruşinea lor cum se acopăr cu o manta!

30 I will give great thanks unto Jehovah with my mouth; Yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

Voi lăuda foarte mult cu gura mea pe Domnul, Îl voi mări în mijlocul mulţimii;

31 F or he will stand at the right hand of the needy, To save him from them that judge his soul.

căci El stă la dreapta săracului, ca să -l izbăvească de cei ce -l osîndesc.
