1 H ear my voice, O God, in my complaint: Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

(Către mai marele cîntăreţilor. Un psalm al lui David.) Ascultă-mi glasul, Dumnezeule, cînd gem! Ocroteşte-mi viaţa împotriva vrajmaşului de care mă tem!

2 H ide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers, From the tumult of the workers of iniquity;

Păzeşte-mă de uneltirile celor răi, de ceata gălăgioasă a oamenilor nelegiuiţi!

3 W ho have whet their tongue like a sword, And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,

Ei îşi ascut limba ca o sabie, îşi aruncă vorbele lor amare, ca nişte săgeţi,

4 T hat they may shoot in secret places at the perfect: Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

ca să tragă în ascuns asupra celui nevinovat: trag asupra lui pe neaşteptate, fără nici o frică.

5 T hey encourage themselves in an evil purpose; They commune of laying snares privily; They say, Who will see them?

Ei se îmbărbătează în răutatea lor: se sfătuiesc împreună ca să întindă curse, şi zic:,, Cine ne va vedea?

6 T hey search out iniquities; We have accomplished, say they, a diligent search: And the inward thought and the heart of every one is deep.

Pun la cale nelegiuiri, şi zic:,, Iată-ne gata, planul este făcut!`` O prăpastie este lăuntrul şi inima fiecăruia!

7 B ut God will shoot at them; With an arrow suddenly shall they be wounded.

Dar Dumnezeu aruncă săgeţi împotriva lor: deodată iată -i loviţi.

8 S o they shall be made to stumble, their own tongue being against them: All that see them shall wag the head.

Limba lor le -a pricinuit căderea; şi toţi cei ce -i văd, clatină din cap.

9 A nd all men shall fear; And they shall declare the work of God, And shall wisely consider of his doing.

Toţi oamenii sînt cuprinşi de frică, şi mărturisesc:,, Iată ce a făcut Dumnezeu,`` şi recunosc că aceasta este lucrarea Lui!

10 T he righteous shall be glad in Jehovah, and shall take refuge in him; And all the upright in heart shall glory.

Cel neprihănit se bucură în Domnul şi în El îşi caută scăparea; toţi cei cu inima fără prihană se laudă că sînt fericiţi.
