1 T he righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart; and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

Piere cel neprihănit, şi nimănui nu -i pasă; se duc oamenii de bine şi nimeni nu ia aminte că din pricina răutăţii este luat cel neprihănit.

2 H e entereth into peace; they rest in their beds, each one that walketh in his uprightness.

El întră în pace în groapa lui: cel ce umblă pe drumul cel drept, se odihneşte în culcuşul lui.

3 B ut draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the harlot.

Dar voi, apropiaţi-vă încoace fii ai vrăjitoarei, sămînţa precurvarului şi a curvei!

4 A gainst whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and put out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

De cine vă bateţi voi joc? Împotriva cui vă deschideţi voi gura larg, şi scoateţi limba? Nu sînteţi voi nişte copii ai păcatului, o sămînţă a minciunii,

5 y e that inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree; that slay the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?

care se încălzeşte pentru idoli supt orice copac verde, care junghie pe copii în văi, supt crăpăturile stîncilor?

6 A mong the smooth stones of the valley is thy portion; they, they are thy lot; even to them hast thou poured a drink-offering, thou hast offered an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things?

În pietrele lustruite din pîraie este partea ta de moştenire, ele sînt soarta ta; lor le torni şi jertfe de băutură, şi le aduci daruri de mîncare:, Pot Eu să fiu nesimţitor la lucrul acesta?

7 U pon a high and lofty mountain hast thou set thy bed; thither also wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.

Pe un munte înalt şi ridicat îţi faci culcuşul; tot acolo te sui să aduci jertfe.

8 A nd behind the doors and the posts hast thou set up thy memorial: for thou hast uncovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them: thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it.

Îţi pui pomenirea în dosul uşii şi uşiorilor; căci, departe de Mine, îţi ridici învelitoarea şi te sui în pat, îţi lărgeşti culcuşul, şi faci legămînt cu ei, îţi place legătura cu ei, şi iei seama la semnul lor.

9 A nd thou wentest to the king with oil, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thine ambassadors far off, and didst debase thyself even unto Sheol.

Te duci la împărat cu untdelemn, îţi înmulţeşti miresmele, îţi trimeţi solii departe, şi te pleci pînă la locuinţa morţilor.

10 T hou wast wearied with the length of thy way; yet saidst thou not, It is in vain: thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not faint.

Oboseşti mergînd, şi nu zici:,Încetez!` Tot mai găseşti putere în mîna ta: De aceea nu te doboară întristarea.

11 A nd of whom hast thou been afraid and in fear, that thou liest, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of long time, and thou fearest me not?

Şi de cine te sfiai, de cine te temeai, de nu Mi-ai fost credincioasă, de nu ţi-ai adus aminte, şi nu ţi -a păsat de Mine? Şi Eu tac, şi încă de multă vreme: de aceea nu te temi tu de Mine.

12 I will declare thy righteousness; and as for thy works, they shall not profit thee.

Dar acum îţi voi da pe faţă neprihănirea, şi faptele tale nu-ţi vor folosi!

13 W hen thou criest, let them that thou hast gathered deliver thee; but the wind shall take them, a breath shall carry them all away: but he that taketh refuge in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain.

Şi atunci să strigi, şi să te izbăvească mulţimea idolilor tăi! Căci îi va lua vîntul pe toţi, o suflare îi va ridica. Dar celce se încrede în Mine va moşteni ţara, şi va stăpîni muntele Meu cel sfînt.`` -

14 A nd he will say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumbling-block out of the way of my people.

Şi El zice:,, Croiţi, croiţi drum, pregătiţi calea, luaţi orice piedică din calea poporului Meu!

15 F or thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Căci aşa vorbeşte Cel Prea Înalt, a cărui locuinţă este vecinică şi al cărui Nume este sfînt., Eu locuiesc în locuri înalte şi în sfinţenie; dar sînt cu omul zdrobit şi smerit, ca să înviorez duhurile smerite, şi să îmbărbătez inimile zdrobite.

16 F or I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls that I have made.

Nu vreau să cert în veci, nici să ţin o mînie necurmată, cînd înaintea Mea cad în leşin duhurile, şi sufletele pe cari le-am făcut.

17 F or the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hid my face and was wroth; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.

Din pricina păcatului lăcomiei lui, M'am mîniat şi l-am lovit, M'am ascuns, în supărarea Mea, şi cel răzvrătit a urmat şi mai mult pe căile inimii lui.

18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

I-am văzut căile, şi totuş îl voi tămădui; îl voi călăuzi, şi -l voi mîngîia, pe el şi pe ceice plîng împreună cu el.

19 I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith Jehovah; and I will heal him.

Voi pune lauda pe buze:, Pace, pace celui de departe şi celui de aproape! -zice Domnul-Da Eu îl voi tămădui!

20 B ut the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it cannot rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt.

Dar cei răi sînt ca marea înfuriată, care nu se poate linişti, şi ale cărei ape aruncă afară noroi şi mîl.``

21 T here is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

Cei răi n'au pace`` zice Dumnezeul meu. -
