1 N ow there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of the hill-country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite:

Era un om din Ramataim-Ţofim, din muntele lui Efraim, numit Elcana, fiul lui Ieroham, fiul lui Elihu, fiul lui Tohu, fiul lui Ţuf, Efratit.

2 a nd he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

El avea două neveste; una se numea Ana, iar cealaltă Penina. Penina avea copii, dar Ana n'avea.

3 A nd this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice unto Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests unto Jehovah, were there.

Omul acesta se suia în fiecare an din cetatea sa la Silo, ca să se închine... înaintea Domnului oştirilor şi să -I aducă jertfe. Acolo se aflau cei doi fii ai lui Eli, Hofni şi Fineas, preoţi ai Domnului.

4 A nd when the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

În ziua cînd îşi aducea Elcana jertfa, dădea părţi nevestei sale Penina, tuturor fiilor, şi tuturor fiicelor pe cari le avea de la ea.

5 b ut unto Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but Jehovah had shut up her womb.

Dar Anei îi dădea o parte îndoită; căci iubea pe Ana. Dar Domnul o făcuse stearpă.

6 A nd her rival provoked her sore, to make her fret, because Jehovah had shut up her womb.

Protivnica ei o înţepa dese ori, ca s'o facă să se mînie, pentru că Domnul o făcuse stearpă.

7 A nd as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Jehovah, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

Şi în toţi anii era aşa. Oridecîteori se suia Ana la casa Domnului, Penina o înţepa la fel. Atunci ea plîngea şi nu mînca.

8 A nd Elkanah her husband said unto her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

Elcana, bărbatul ei, îi zicea:,, Ano, pentruce plîngi, şi nu mănînci? Pentruce ţi-este întristată inima? Oare nu preţuiesc eu pentru tine mai mult decît zece fii?``

9 S o Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting upon his seat by the door-post of the temple of Jehovah.

Ana s'a sculat, dupăce au mîncat şi au băut ei la Silo. Preotul Eli şedea pe un scaun, lîngă unul din uşiorii Templului Domnului.

10 A nd she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto Jehovah, and wept sore.

Şi Ana se ruga Domnului cu sufletul amărît şi plîngea!

11 A nd she vowed a vow, and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man-child, then I will give him unto Jehovah all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

Ea a făcut o juruinţă, şi a zis:,, Doamne, Dumnezeul oştirilor! Dacă vei binevoi să cauţi spre întristarea roabei Tale, dacă-Ţi vei aduce... aminte de mine şi nu vei uita pe roaba Ta, şi dacă vei da roabei Tale un copil de parte bărbătească, îl voi închina Domnului pentru toate zilele vieţii lui, şi brici...... nu va trece peste capul lui.``

12 A nd it came to pass, as she continued praying before Jehovah, that Eli marked her mouth.

Fiindcă ea stătea multă vreme în rugăciune înaintea Domnului, Eli se uita cu băgare de seamă la gura ei.

13 N ow Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

Ana vorbea în inima ei, şi numai buzele şi le mişca, dar nu i se auzea glasul. Eli credea că este beată,

14 A nd Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

şi i -a zis:,, Pînă cînd vei fi beată? Du-te de te trezeşte.``

15 A nd Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Jehovah.

Ana a răspuns:,, Nu, domnul meu, eu sînt o femeie care sufere în inima ei, şi n'am băut nici vin, nici băutură ameţitoare; ci îmi vărsam sufletul înaintea Domnului.

16 C ount not thy handmaid for a wicked woman; for out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation have I spoken hitherto.

Să nu iei pe roaba ta drept o femeie stricată, căci numai prea multa mea durere şi supărare m'a făcut să vorbesc pînă acum.``

17 T hen Eli answered and said, Go in peace; and the God of Israel grant thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

Eli a luat din nou cuvîntul, şi a zis:,, Du-te în pace, şi Dumnezeul lui Israel să asculte rugăciunea pe care I-ai făcut -o!``

18 A nd she said, Let thy handmaid find favor in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat; and her countenance was no more sad.

Ea a zis:,, Să capete roaba ta trecerea înaintea ta!`` Şi femeia a plecat. A mîncat, şi faţa ei n'a mai fost aceeaş.

19 A nd they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before Jehovah, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Jehovah remembered her.

S'au sculat disdedimineaţă, şi, dupăce s'au închinat pînă la pămînt înaintea Domnului, s'au întors şi au venit acasă la Rama.

20 A nd it came to pass, when the time was come about, that Hannah conceived, and bare a son; and she called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of Jehovah.

Cînd i s'au împlinit zilele, Ana a rămas însărcinată, şi a născut un fiu, căruia i -a pus numele Samuel (Dumnezeu a ascultat),,, căci`` a zis ea,,, dela Domnul l-am cerut.``

21 A nd the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto Jehovah the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

Bărbatul său Elcana s'a suit apoi cu toată casa lui, să aducă Domnului jertfa de peste an, şi să-şi împlinească juruinţa.

22 B ut Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned; and then I will bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah, and there abide for ever.

Dar Ana nu s'a suit, şi a zis bărbatului ei:,, Cînd voi înţerca copilul, îl voi duce, ca să fie pus înaintea Domnului şi să rămînă acolo pentru totdeauna....``

23 A nd Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only Jehovah establish his word. So the woman tarried and gave her son suck, until she weaned him.

Elcana, bărbatul ei, i -a zis:,, Fă ce vei crede, aşteaptă pînă -l vei înţerca. Numai împlinească-Şi Domnul cuvîntul Lui!`` Şi femeia a rămas acasă, şi a dat ţîţă fiului ei, pînă l -a înţercat.

24 A nd when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of Jehovah in Shiloh: and the child was young.

Cînd l -a înţercat, l -a suit cu ea, şi a luat trei tauri, o efă de făină, şi un burduf cu vin. L -a dus în casa Domnului la Silo: copilul era încă mic de tot.

25 A nd they slew the bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

Au junghiat taurii, şi au dus copilul la Eli.

26 A nd she said, Oh, my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto Jehovah.

Ana a zis:,, Domnul meu, iartă-mă! Cît este de adevărat că sufletul tău trăieşte, domnul meu, atît este de adevărat că eu sînt femeia aceea care stăteam aici lîngă tine şi mă rugam Domnului.

27 F or this child I prayed; and Jehovah hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

Pentru copilul acesta mă rugam, şi Domnul a ascultat rugăciunea pe care I -o făceam.

28 t herefore also I have granted him to Jehovah; as long as he liveth he is granted to Jehovah. And he worshipped Jehovah there.

De aceea vreau să -l dau Domnului: toată viaţa lui să fie dat Domnului.`` Şi s'au închinat acolo înaintea Domnului.
